  • The purpose of this study is to analyze whether there is gender difference in Members' voting on women's issue bills, and to find out determinants of Members voting decisions on the same bills. The findings are as follows. First, there is no gender difference in women's issue voting, so women Members as a group were not significantly different from men Members in voting behavior. That's not because women Members were split in voting but because both men and women Members are very supportive of the bills. Secondly, Members' party and ideology play a significant role in Member' voting on women's issue. Compared to the majority party(Uri party)'s overwhelming support, minority parties are much less supportive on the issues. Member's ideology also proved to be important indicator of voting decision. The more ideologically liberal Members are, the more supportive of the bills.

This study investigated how narcissistic personality and depression variables relate to psychopathy variables. For this purpose, an assessment battery consisting of Narcissistic Personality Inventory(NPI), Narcissistic Personality Disorder Scale: NPDS), BDI, Self-Reported Psychopathy Scale(SRPS), and Psychopathic Personality Inventory-Revised. PPI-R was administered to 1003 college students (501 males and 502 females). For comparison with the levels of pathological narcissism, the participants were devided two groups( above 33%, below 33% ) based on their scores of the NPDS, According to the results, males had more overt narcissistic personality, and females felt more depressive and psychopathic. The higher level group on the NPDS had higher scores on the NPI, BDI, SRPS and PPI-R. The students' narcissistic personality had relations to depression and psychopathy, but the results were different according to the kind of inventories(PPI-R or SRPS, NPI or NPDS). The implications and limitations of this study, as well as some suggestions for future research, were suggested.

  • The present study examined the relations between physical attractiveness and likability and we also investigated whether these variable's effects differ depending on generation (young and middle-aged) × evaluator gender (male and female) × target gender (male and female). Second, when assessing these variables, we figured out whether evaluators more preferred 'the same-sex preference' than 'the opposite-sex preference'. To that end, 120 college students participated in the 3D program to sample their ideal looks and bodies. Then, another 240 people (60 young men and women each, 60 middle-aged men and women each) evaluated the physical attractiveness, likeability, relationship preference, and personality of the sample. The result is that physical attractiveness is a positively related to likability. There were evaluator gender and target gender differences in the judgment of physical attractiveness, but there were generation and target gender differences in the judgment of likability. Lastly, the effect based on target-maker gender was different for evaluator gender in each factor evaluation. These results were discussed from the evolutionary and sociocultural perspectives on physical attractiveness.

  • The purpose of the study was to identify the latent classes of meta-awareness of gender discrimination among Korean young adults using Latent Profile Analysis based on 'perceived ambivalence toward men among women', 'perceived ambivalent sexism among men', 'perceived gender(reverse-) discrimination in Korea'. After identifying the latent classes, the difference between gender role conflict, sense of distance from the opposite sex, and support for gender discrimination issues were explored among the classified groups. As a result, 3 latent classes among women and 2 latent classes among men were identified. Latent classes among women were named 'women with low sensitivity of sexism', 'women with high sensitivity of sexism' and 'women against sexism' and latent classes among men were named 'men with perception of gender equality', 'men with perception of reverse discrimination'. Types with higher levels of meta-awareness of gender discrimination were related with higher gender role conflict and higher sense of distance from the opposite sex. Among women, types with higher levels of meta-awareness of gender discrimination perceived higher levels of gender discrimination and showed more support for gender discrimination issues while among men, types with higher levels of meta-perception of gender discrimination only perceived higher levels of reverse discrimination. Based on the present findings, implications about the severe gender conflict among Korean young adults are further discussed in the article.

  • Clarifying differences of scholastic characteristics showed in male and female students is the first step for resolving the differences. It is difficult that we figure out them by one test. If we evaluate a few subjects, they can't have generality. So, we must evaluate lots of subjects through several years by all-around contents. We keep going on like that, we can get objective and valid results. Accordingly, I dealt with 2010~2014 NAEA taken by complete enumeration evaluation for elementary, middle, and high school students. From the evaluation, while I organized the achievement scores and the average of percentage of correct answers from aspects of whole test, item types, and content domains, I elicited from differences of scholastic characteristics showed in male and female students by achievement levels. On the basis of these, I explored ways which can resolve the differences in male and female students and I proposed several suggestions to look for the better ways.

  • This paper examined the influence of interdisciplinary education on technology and society over engineering identities of male and female students. For this purpose, we analyzed survey and essays of UNIST students who took the course of in 2013. Favorable feeling toward engineers, satisfaction with future career as engineers, positive regards of engineers' contribution to society increased to a statistically significant level within the group of female students who took the course. Interestingly, male students also formed more positive engineering identities after taking the course. Gender difference in engineering identities, which was statistically significant within the control group of non-takers, disappeared within students who took the course. Both male and female students learned to perceive engineering as a goal-oriented and contextualized exercises that can materialize new social values. In conclusion, interdisciplinary education on technology and society can make positive impacts on students' formation of engineering identities and sense of commitment.
