Daily minimum temperature and freezing data of the Seoul weather station ($37^{\circ}$34'N, $126^{\circ}$57'E, Songwol-dong Jongno-gu Seoul, hereinafter Songwol) and freezing data of the Han River station ($37^{\circ}$30'N, $126^{\circ}$57'E, hereinafter Han River) were used to study the long-term variation of the freezing climate for Seoul, Korea, for the period of 100 years from 1907 to 2006. 'Freezing' of Songwol is defined that the water in outdoor fields is frozen, and 'freezing' of the Han River located 6 km away from Songwol is defined as the region 100 meters upstream of the second and fourth piers in the south end of the Han River Bridge is fully frozen. The mean first freezing date for Songwol was October 28, and one for Han River was December 28; these showed a late tendency, with the rate of 0.78 days $decade^{-1}$ and 3.47 days $decade^{-1}$, respectively. The mean annual freezing days was 159.06 days for Songwol and 50.33 days for Han River; each showed a $decade^{-1}$shorter tendency, with rates of 2.01 days $decade^{-1}$ and 5.24 days $decade^{-1}$, respectively. All the seven no-freezing years (1960, 1971, 1972, 1978, 1988, 1991, and 2006) for Han River came after 1950. The mean daily minimum temperatures of the first freezing dates for Songwol and Han River were $0.55^{\circ}C$ and $-12.22^{\circ}C$. The first freezing occurred after 6.43 days for Songwol and after 8.94 days for Han River with daily minimum temperature below $0^{\circ}C$. The annual minimum temperatures of Songwol and Han River exhibited positive correlations with the first freezing date and negative correlations with freezing days. The result shows that the freezing climate change is relevant to temperature change and is a part of overall climate change. By conducting additional studies with various methods and wider region, we will be able to monitor the freezing climate.
This study was performed to obtain a basic materials for improvement of garlic storage ability. The "Namhae jaerae" of southern strain and the "Dalsung jaerae" of northern strain were harvested by period, their stems were cut at 7cm and 25cm from disk and then placed them in blast drying system 12 hours per day at $40^{\circ}C$ for 4 days, or in natural state. The decrease rate of bulb weight was compared and rooting, sprouting, the rate of decay was investigated between natural dry(conventional method) and hot-air dry (blast drying system). The results obtained were as follows. In the case of the decrease rate of bulb weight after hot-air dry; 7cm plot" "Namhae jaerae" was similiar to one of 13th day of natural dry and 25cm plot 14th day. In "Dalsung jaerae" 7cm plot of early, common and late harvest was respectively similiar to one of 22nd, 18th and 16th day of natural dry, 25cm plot of early, common and late harvest showed the same decrease rate of bulb weight as that of 18th, 16th and 14th day of natural dry respectively. In the case of rooting and sprouting in sand culture at the early period of storage, hot-air dry showed more prolonged tendency than conventional drying method. In the case of clove state in the latter period of storage, number of eatable cloves was more numerous and number of decayed cloves were less in blast drying system than in conventional method.

The development of swift's scallop Chlamys swiftii, reared in the laboratory, has been examined through the investigation of morphological characteristics in fertilized egg, larvae and juvenile. Eggs were fertilized with a dilute sperm solution to improve the survival of fertilized eggs. Developing larvae were maintained at a temperature of $16{\pm}0.5^{\circ}C$ and salinity concentration of 33 ppt. We have investigated the fertilization rates and egg number spawned at several stimulating conditions such as sunlight exposure, air dry, seawater temperature rise ($5^{\circ}C$) and seawater temperature rise ($5^{\circ}C$) after exposure of air dry for spawning induction of swift's scallop Chamys swiftii. Stimulation treated with sunlight exposure and seawater temperature rise ($5^{\circ}C$) have shown the spawning number of 700,000-900,000 and 700,000-800,000 per individual, respectively while stimulation treated with seawater temperature rise ($5^{\circ}C$) after exposure of air dry have shown the high spawning number of 1,000,000-1,500,000 per individual. Survival rate of D-shaped larvae of swift's scallop put into the different seawater temperatures of $8^{\circ}C$, $12^{\circ}C$, $16^{\circ}C$, $20^{\circ}C$ and $24^{\circ}C$ has been 4.1%, 11.6%, 32.7%, 18.6% and 3.2%, respectively. Fertilized eggs with the diameter of $72{\mu}m$ developed into trochophore larvae of $103{\pm}3.8{\mu}m$ shortly after 35 hours and to D larvae of $129{\pm}10.4{\mu}m$ shell length within 72 hours. It took 336 hours to become initial Umbo-stage larva of $145{\pm}16.8{\mu}m$ shell length. Post larvae, which have been $197{\pm}13.6{\mu}m$ shell length, spontaneously have settled in the attachment substances. It have required 528 hours from fertilized eggs to early attached juvenile to become initial juvenile size of $245{\pm}15.8{\mu}m$ shell length.
An investigation was conducted to determine the characteristics of seasonal occurrences and effective insecticides for minimizing the occurrence of Pseudaulacaspis cockerelli in sweet persimmon orchards. Most of the nymphs or female scales that mated in mid-September overwintered on twigs, matured to lay eggs in the next spring in accordance with temperature increase, and survived till mid to late May to lay all of their eggs. Males mostly died after mating by the end of September, while the males on the fallen leaves died during the hibernating period. Egg laying in P. cockerelli showed differences in accordance with the weather conditions in each year. They laid eggs from mid-April to mid- or late May, with a peak in early or mid-May. A female was estimated to lay 160 eggs; eggs hatched a week later from the peak period of egg laying. In summer, egg laying started in early or mid-July and ended in mid- or late August, with a peak in late July or early August; a female laid approximately 130 eggs in summer. The estimated egg period was 4 days. The first generation nymph that hatched from the eggs laid by the overwintered female on twigs showed 10% occurrence on twigs and 90% on leaves. The first generation nymphs on twigs mostly developed into female scales. The occurrence of the second generation nymphs reached a peak on July 27, 2009; they lived on the twigs as their overwintering site from mid- or late August. The female and male scales on leaves developed at the similar rate as the first generation nymphs up to August. The occurrence of male scales indicated that the peak occurrence of nymphs was on August 12, 2009, male scales on August 27, and adults approximately on September 14, which showed steady relationship in the sequence of development from nymphs to adult males. Among the nymphs that occurred on the leaves on August 12, 75% of them emerged into male adults, mated, and died. Buprofezine+dinotefurn (20+15) WP treatment on June 9 and 16 resulted in 90.6% control of P. cockerelli, when mortality was checked 7 weeks after treatment.
Swelling properties and shear strength behavior of MgO-Sand mixtures with hydration procese of MgO are compared according to different MgO contents (WMgO/WTotal=0, 30, 50, 70, 100%) in this study. The specimens are prepared by mixing with crushed MgO refractory bricks and silica sand. After hydration, the particle size and the specific gravity of MgO were decreases. Through microstructure observation and X-ray diffraction analysis, it is confirmed that MgO changes from the cubic structure of Periclase to the hexagonal cubic structure of Brucite after hydration. As the MgO content increases, both swelling rate and swelling pressure of the mixtures increase. WMgO/WTotal=30% specimen shows relatively low swelling pressure and swelling rate because produced Mg(OH)2 mainly fills the pores between sand particles. However, in the case of MgO more than 50%, swelling pressure and swelling rate increase significantly because Mg(OH)2 fills the pores of sand particles at first and then either pushes out sand particles or Mg(OH)2 particles after filling the pores. As a result of the direct shear test, before hydration, the mixtures show a dilative behavior on high MgO contents and a contractive behavior on low MgO contents. However, after hydration, the behavior of all mixtures changes to contractive behavior. The threshold fraction of fine (i.e., Mg(OH)2) contents of the hydrated MgO-Sand mixtures reveals approximately 60% compared with normalized shear strength.

In many of the helminthic infections, diagnosis is accomplished by the demonstration of the eggs or, occasionally the adult worms or their parts. Diagnosis can be made by the identification of larval stage obtained from stool or surgically extracted materials too. However some kinds of parasitic disease can not be diagnosed by above mentioned procedure alone. Brain cysticercosis, ectopic paragonimiasis, Capillaria hepatica infection in liver is a good example. In such a case, immunologic method would be helpful for the decision of physician. In this paper, immunologic tools such as indirect hemagglutination test, indirect fluorescent antibody test, circumoval precipitation test, ELISA, western blot were applied for the diagnosis of Clonorchis sinenisis, Cysticercosis and C. hepatica a infection and their efficacy was evaluated. The results obtained were as follows ; 1) In the diagnosis of clonorchiasis, ELISA revealed sensitiveity of 83.3%, but cross reaction against antibody of Paragonimus westermani and Taenia species were observed. For the identification of cross reaction and species specific band of Ag-Ab reaction, western blot was applied. 59Kd relative molecular weight and 21Kd band were identified as a Clonorchis sinensis specific band. OD values of ELISA performed with sera of 18 months after praziquantel treatment decreased to half level compared to that of before treatment. Negative conversion rate of ELISA after 18 months of treatment was 60%. 2) In the diagnosis of cysticercosis, IFAT disclosed 95.8%(23/24) of sensitivity and reaction was most strongly occurred in inner membrane. ELISA revealed 90.0% (36/40) of sensitivity, but cross reaction was observed in both technique. In western blot, 91, 63 and 21Kd Mw bands were identified as a strongly positive band. Among them 63Kd band showed positive reaction against almost all sera of cysticercosis patient. 3) Circumoval precipitation, ELISA, IFAT, showed 85.0% of sensitivity in the diagnosis of C. hepatica infection in rat. The antigenic localities were inner membrane of sectioned egg antigen on the prectipitates around the mucoid plugs which were induced by circumoval precipitation reaction. Sera from rats infected with 2000eggs were collected periodically to observe the changing patterns of antibody titers by IFAT and ELISA, which showed that high titers were detected at weeks 3 and 5, then gradually declined through weeks 9until to negatively converted at weeks 13.
Rainfall factor. R, and soil factor, K were estimated to use the Revised Universal Soil Loss Equation (RUSLE) to predict the amount of soil erosion from a land on slope in Kangwon-do, Korea. The average of R factor was 405 with a range from 251 to 601. The R factor differed among regions. The R factor at Taegwalryung, in the highland region, was 409 and those at Inje and Hongchon, in the mid mountainous regions, ranged from 310 to 493. The R factors at Wonju and Chuncheon, in the plain regions, ranged from 505 to 601. The R factors at Sokcho, Kangnung and Samchok, in the east coastal region, which ranged from 251 to 368, were lowee than those in the western part of the Taebaeg Mountains. The R factor during the winter including the effect of winter freezing and thawing was 12 to 30% of the annual average value in the east coastal and highland regions, while that in the western part of Taebaeg Mountains was lower than 7%. The average of K factor in the surface soil was 0.21 with a range from 0.06 to 0.42. The K factors of Odae and Weoljeong serieses were the lowest, while that of Imog was the highest. The average of K factor in the subsoil was 0.28 with a range from 0.07 to 0.45. The K factor of the subsoil was 1.3 times higher than that of top soil. The average of K factor in he soil including the effect of the gravel covering and percolation was 0.18 with a range from 0.03 to 0.33. In contrast. the K factor excluding the effect of the gravel covering was lower than this. The average of K factor in the frozen subsoil was 0.33, which was 1.6 times higher than that of the non frozen subsoil.
This study was conducted to analyze the effect of single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) on the equine chromosomes (ECA) 3 for the body conformations of 12 month of age in Jeju crossbred (Jeju horses ${\times}$ Thoroughbred). A total of 199 Jeju crossbred horse samples were obtained from the National Institute of Subtropical Livestock Research Institute for this study. To correctly estimate the body conformations, we measured thirteen elements relevant to the body conformation such as body weight, wither height, body length for all the 199 horses at 12 month of age. Furthermore, all the horses were genotyped using four SNPs including the BIEC2-808466, BIEC2-808543, BIEC2-808967, BIEC2-809370, of which genomic coordinates range approximately from 105.1Mbp to 110 Mbp in the ECA3. For the phenotypic data sets, the average body weight was $193.7{\pm}24.5kg$ and the height was $124.5{\pm}4.0cm$. As for the genotypic data, the miner allele frequencies of the SNPs were shown to be varied from 0.01 to 0.291. Using the phenotypic and genotypic data sets, analysis of covariance was performed to find any association between those SNP genotypes and body conformations, using year of birth, month of birth, sex, and parity as the covariance components. The result showed that alternative genotypes in the BIEC2-808967 and BIEC2-809370 SNPs were significantly associated with the body length (P<0.05) and the wither height (P<0.05) respectively in the Jeju crossbred horses. Therefore, it is estimated that there are significant associations in the body conformation of 12 month of age of Jeju crossbred for those two SNPs used in this study.
