  • Here, the unsteady Navier-Stokes solver has been developed using implicit dual time stepping method. The implicit dual time stepping method introduced the pseudo time step for solving the new residual including the steady state residual and real time derivative. For the validation of code, Stokes 2nd problem, the laminar flow on the oscillating flat plate was selected and compare the calculating results with analytic solutions. The calculating velocity profile and skin friction has a good agreement with analytic solutions.

  • A three-dimensional Navier-Stokes code has been developed for analysis of viscous flows through turbomachinery blade rows or other internal passages. The Navier-Stokes equations are written in a cartesian coordinate system, then mapped to a general body-fitted coordinate system. Streamwise viscous terms are neglected and turbulent effects are modeled using the baldwin-Lomax model. Equations are discretized using finite difference method on the stacked C-type grids and solved using LU-ADI decomposition scheme. calculations are made for a two-dimensional cascade in a transonic wind-tunnel to see the infuence of the endwalls. The flow pattern of the three-dimensional flow near the endwall is found to be different from that of the two-dimensional flow due to the existence of the endwalls.

  • A preconditioned Navier-Stokes code was parallelized by the domain decomposition technique, and the accuracy of the parallelized code was verified through a comparison with the result of a sequential code and experimental data. Parallel performance of the code was examined on a Myrinet based PC-cluster and a Fast-Ethernet system. Speed-up ratio was examined as a major performance parameter depending on the number of processor and the network communication topology. In this test, Myrinet system shows a superior parallel performance to the Fast-Ethernet system as was expected. A test for the dependency on problem size also shows that network communication speed in a crucial factor for parallel performance, and the Myrinet based PC-cluster is a plausible candidate for high performance parallel computing system.

  • This paper describes the performance of a centrifugal fan used for refuse collection systems according to the chord length of the splitters installed near the blade suction and pressure surface sides. The fan performance is analyzed by three-dimensional Navier.Stokes analysis and is compared to the results obtained experimentally. Throughout the numerical simulation of the fan with splitters, it is found that the reverse-flow region observed near the suction side of the blade can be reduced by installing a splitter. The fan performance is successfully improved by controlling the chord length of the splitter installed near the blade suction side. Under the designed flow condition, the efficiency and pressure of a fan with splitters increase by up to 4% and 18%, respectively, compared to the reference fan.
