The objective of this study is to observe the exclusive breastfeeding(EBF) rate and to identify factors which influence EBF by postpartum period. The data were obtained from the 2015 National Fertility Survey, Family Health and Welfare in Korea, and secondary data analysis were employed for 1,839 mothers who gave birth to baby between January 2013 and February 2015. Data were analyzed using SPSS 25.0 program with descriptive statistics, chi-square test and multiple logistic regression. The EBF rate at the 1st and 6th month of postpartum were 54.0%, 9.4% respectively. The significant influencing factors on the EBF at the 1st month of postpartum were age of mother, baby's birth rank, type of delivery, breastfeeding within 1 hour after delivery. The significant influencing factors on the EBF at the 6th month of postpartum were age of mother, living area, EBF in the first month. We found that the influencing factors on EBF differed by postpartum period. In order to improving the rate of EBF, it is recommended that taioed interventions is needed considering the factors affecting the EBF by postpartum period.
The aim of this study was to get answers to following research questions: Who are the busy people in such a speedy society like Korea? How the daily schedules of busy people might look like? What is the priority of activity that appear in their schedules?, And what is the gender difference? The sample of study came form the 2004 Korean Time Diary Data which have been collected by Korean National Statistical Office. The sample consisted of 11,976 married men and women, whose age range from 25-54 (women 49.7% of the sample). Dependent variable was time pressure measured in one item question with 4-likert scale. Socio-demographic factors and the amount of time in work/family role and other relevant activities were considered as well as gender. The results of the study showed us that men perceived more time deficit compared to women. Especially, employed men were the most time poor group, followed by employed women, unemployed women and unemployed men. The results showed that, even though there were similarities in the impact of relevant factors, men's time pressure were tightly linked with their work role and social status, while women's time pressure were responsive to both their role as a mother and as a worker. Nowadays, Korean fathers appear to face new expectation that they need to be involved in family just like mothers do. However, men and women still seems to traverse through different time path, which may create both burden and conflict to either party. Policy implication and detailed suggestions were discussed.
This study observes how the conjugal sharing of the roles such as breadwinning, housework/childcare, and leisure activities affects wives' marital satisfaction, and how the relationships among the considered variables are similar or different across age categories. Two dependent variables, the relationship satisfaction and the marital happiness, are measured and estimated as the concept of the marital satisfaction. Analysed is the Korean Longitudinal Survey of Women and Families 2008 collected by Korean Women's Development Institute. Among women in the ages of 30s-50s, full-time housewives with the breadwinning husbands feel happier with their marriage than the wives in dual career families, and those in dual career families are happier than the breadwinning women with the househusbands. Among the women in their 40s, the highest relationship satisfaction is reported by the those of the dual career families. Wives in their 30s prefer equal division of familywork in explaining the relationship satisfaction, while wives in the age of 40s and 50s show only the effect of reducing wives' portion. The co-spousal leisure activity is consistently significant in its positive relationship with the marital satisfaction across the age categories. There is a general tendency that the marital satisfaction is the highest in the youngest age bracket and the lowest in the oldest. For managing better marriages, individual efforts of both spouses as well as social support are required.
The purpose of this exploratory study was to assess work performance of dental hygienists and identify factors influencing their work performance. A questionnaire was administered to 87 dental hygienists working dental clinics based in Ulsan during the period from June 2005 through July 2005. A total of 77 questionnaires were collected and used for analysis. SPSS 11.5 program was employed for statistical analysis. All data were expressed in terms of numbers, percentage and mean score. The results of the study are summarized as follows: 1. There was a significantly positive correlation between age and the level of work performance in the Scientific competency group and Esthetical competency group. 2. Unmarried dental hygienists demonstrated better work performance than married dental hygienists in Scientific, Esthetical and Personal competency groups, showing a statistically significant difference. 3. By education level, those with junior college degree had better work performance than those who are attending or graduated from college in the four groups. By workplace, those who were working at non-general hospitals demonstrated a higher level of performance in the three groups except the Ethical group, but the difference was not statistically significant. 4. A significantly positive relationship was observed between monthly pay and work performance in the Scientific, Personal and Esthetical competency groups. 5. A positive relationship was observed between work experience and performance in the Scientific competency group. But there was no difference between work experience and performance in the other three groups. 6. By working environment, those who were working with assistant nurses showed a higher level of performance than those working without assistant nurses in the Scientific competency group, and the difference was statistically significant.
The purpose of this study was to examine the work and turnover of dental hygienists in a bid to find out problems with them and feasible reform measures. The subjects in this study were 383 dental hygienists, on whom a self-administered survey was conducted in May and June, 2010. Concerning the work of the dental hygienists by the type of dental institution, the largest group placed importance on treatment cooperation as the major duty. Both of the dental clinic(54.3%) and the dental hospital employees(30.0%) faced the most difficulties in providing treatment counseling. As to the work awareness of the dental hygienists by career, the greatest group gave weight to treatment cooperation as the major duty, and the gaps in that aspect were statistically significant (p<.05). In dental clinics, working conditions (27.2%) and in dental hospitals, salary increase (37.1%) should be given top priority for improvement. The most common reasons for which dental hygienists changed theirs jobs were significantly different between dental clinics and dental hospitals: discord with supervisors (39.3%) in dental clinics and dissatisfaction with the salary (28.6%) in dental hospitals. The difference between the two results were statistically significant (p<.05). These findings indicate that independent working and improvement in working conditions of dental hygienists are urgently needed.
The purpose of this study was identified about the self-perceived job stress and the relationship between turnover and job stress of dental hygienists'. This results were based for improved of job satisfaction of dental hygienists'. 214 dental hygienist in Ulsan and Kyung Nam areas were participated and this study was done from March to May in 2009. Results: In the job-related environmental characteristic, 57.5% of participant worked in dental clinic and 42.5% of participant worked in dental hospital. The majority of career year was 1~3 years, 42.5%. 38.3% of participant had turnover, and the majority of number of turnover was once, 45.1%. 33.6% of participant had 1,300,000~1,490,000 won/month, 49.5% of participant worked for 8~9hours/day and the major working service was assistant for general dental treatment, 70.1%. Younger dental hygienist had more stress about inappropriate compensation. Higher education and married dental hygienist had more stress about job demand. The number of turnover, workplace culture and experience of turnover were significantly related. In the job-related environmental characteristic, job demand, interpersonal conflict and a case of dental clinic were significantly related. Other effecting factors were interpersonal conflict in salary, organization system in working time, and working demand in conditions of 5day's working. Experience of turnover was influenced with interpersonal conflicts and the number of dental hygienist in the working place was related with job stress significantly.
The purpose of this study was to obtain basic data on the relationing between smoking, drinking and periodontal pocket formation. There was no nationwide epidemiologic study on periodontal diseases and smoking, drinking in korea. 177 adults aged 20 and older were recruited the study subjects. Data for smoking, drinking and general characteristics were collected by questions. Periodontal pocket formation was measured greater than 3 mm by probing. Sectional arch numbers of periodontal pocket formation by sex, marriage status and drink yes or no were no statististically difference. Sectional arch numbers of periodontal pocket formation by ages were statististically to increase in proportion to age. Sectional arch numbers of periodontal pocket formation by economic status were statististically to increase in proportion to high economic status. Sectional arch numbers of periodontal pocket formation by smoke yes or no were statististically to increase more smokers than non-smokers. According to regression analysis, periodontal pocket formation was influenced by age, economic status and smoke yes or no.
The purpose of this study is to identify general, physical, and social self-efficacy according to oral health behavior among the elderly and examine the factors affecting them. For this purpose, a survey was conducted in 500 persons aged 60 years or older residing in Daegu and North Gyeongsang Province from June 1 to August 30, 2013. With the exception of 73 questionnaires that were not completed or contained insincere responses, 427 copies (recovery rate: 85.4%) were analyzed, thus obtaining the following results: 1) In terms of the respondents' socio-demographic characteristics, those who were younger, who were more highly educated, who were married, and who got a larger amount of monthly pocket money showed higher general, physical, and social self-efficacy, with statistically significant differences (p<0.001). 2) The group with good oral health behavior showed higher general and social self-efficacy and that with an average level of oral health behavior showed higher physical self-efficacy, with significant differences (p<0.001). 3) The factor most influential on oral health behavior was general self-efficacy (${\beta}=0.184$), followed by social self-efficacy (${\beta}=0.162$), physical self-efficacy (${\beta}=0.101$).
The aim of this study was to investigate the association between perceived periodontal status and sexual function among adult men. Three hundred thirty adult male participated in this study living at Changwon and Jinju. All the participants surveyed the socio-demographic characteristics, perceived periodontal status, stress, and international index of erectile function (IIEF) using self-administrated questionnaire. The univariate and multivariate analyze were adapted to access the crude and adjusted associations using PASW Statistics 18.0. In univariate analysis, there were significant differences between perceived periodontal status and IIEF and most of socio-demographic characteristics (p<0.05), but no significant differences between stress and all of socio-demographic characteristics (p>0.05). The sexual function was negatively correlated with perceived periodontal status (r=-0.228, p<0.001) and stress (r=-0.257, p<0.001), respectively. In multivariate analysis, perceived periodontal status was significantly associated with sexual function (b=-0.889, p=0.030) after adjusting for socio-demographic characteristics and stress. Therefore, it is found that perceived periodontal status negatively influenced on sexual function in adult men.
The purpose of this study was to conduct an empirical survey on consumer perception and consumption behavior in relation to local food and eco-friendly food. The survey was conducted using 266 consumers who have heard about or purchased local foods and eco-friendly foods centering on Seoul and Gyeonggi-do, and statistical analysis was carried out using SPSS (Version 23.0) to generate descriptive statistical values such as frequency and percentage and implement a Chi-square test. The results showed that consumers purchased local food in large shopping malls, supermarkets, and local food stores, whereas eco-friendly food were usually bought in large shopping malls, supermarkets, and eco-friendly food specialty stores. For local food, consumers bought fruits the most, followed by vegetables, whereas for eco-friendly food, consumers purchased vegetables the most, followed by fruits. The top reason for purchasing local food was its "fresh and high quality," whereas the top reason for buying eco-friendly food was "safety from pesticides and additives." According to results of the Chi-square test, women, unmarried people and younger people turned out to have more experiences in purchasing local foods and eco-friendly foods compared to men, married people and older people, respectively. Although local and eco-friendly food were completely different concepts, results of the study show that consumers were not able to make a clear distinction between the two. Consumer education, therefore, should involve defining the two types of food and spreading awareness on local and organic food to help them made the right choices when buying food.
