  • Consumer's needs, pursuing diverse lifestyles, can be identified systematically by the development of design research method with computer technologies. Color, which is the most important factor in industrial design, has been regarded as possessing difficulties in collecting and analyzing reliable data, because it has multi-dimensional features. The purpose of this paper is to develop a new research method for design and color preference investigation, and to provide the possibilities of applying this method into the traditional color research which has many limitations in time, space, and money. This paper emphasizes that the new method using visual and concrete 3D modeling of a product can enhance the reliability of collecting and analyzing data comparing with traditional linguistic and abstract one.

  • Conventional binary adder requires a carry propagation to the most significant bit, and leads to serial addition. However, optical adder using a modified signed digit(MSD) number system has been Proposed to reduce the carry propagation chain encountered in binary adder. In this paper, in order to minimize the number of symbolic substitution(SS) rules, nine input patterns were divided into five groups of the same addition results. For recognizing the input reference patterns, serial connections of joint spatial encoded patterns and masks without any other spatial operations are used.

  • The cartoon communicates its messages by cartoon semiotics as a vehicle of emotion, face expression, act, glance, and texts along the story. this style of communication showed in the cartoon can be defined as "Cartoon communication style". Since, the cartoon is cultural and social product, an understanding of "Cartoon communication style" plays a major role in understanding culture and society as well as its production and interchange. To understand what is the "Cartoon communication style", systemic and objective research method through "Cartoon Analysis" is required. The study review cognitive tendency of cartoon expression through semiotic analysis of total 35,225 cuts of Korea, Japanese and Chinese published cartoons and consequently, classifies the cartoons by 3 forms - One-Root, One-Idea and One-Style to encode.

  • Typography's original meaning was printing by a plate or a printing type. Nowadays, Typography covers graphic design that composes types visually. Typography has an important mean because of two functions-linguistic and image building functions. Typography helps conveying information and making images. As new media appears, audio-visual factors take an important role. Therefore Typography's image building function be more important than linguistic function. This thesis will handle the relationship between typography and game contents. How typography is described through game contents and how typography's meaning are explained in game contents are topics. And typography's functions and factors on On-line game will be discussed.

  • As the boundaries between disciplines have been weakened and interdisciplinary or multidisciplinary subjects have increased, there is a limitation to express subjects with DDC. This study evaluates DDC instructions using interdisciplinary numbers and classifying more than one discipline through Delphi research. As a result, it is found that there is a need for defining separately 'interdisciplinary subjects' and 'multidisciplinary subjects', based on the level of integration among disciplines, and improving the instruction to maintain the consistency in assigning and filing classification numbers. It is also discussed that to enhance the symbols' power of expression, an analytic/synthetic method could be adopted.

  • The purpose of this study is to examine and understand decoding process of the Advertising - text to users a various aspects of semiotic approaches. Further more, through this study, show the sign- structures of the ad-text. For this purpose this study has chosen about the AD of publication of constant period that explore the variable characteristics, access the audience's meaning - structures. Through this analysis , grasp the point of internal and external linked structures. The results of this study can be summarized as follows; ㆍ The AD were applied using the transformational signifier of sign-system rather than the reflection of life's quality and products itself. Moreover to show itself meaning, the ad should do selection of transformation of thought than information-oriented. ㆍ The AD-text can be produced its productive efforts as well as decoding process of audience through various linked channel. Association, structured linking, audience's decoding, thematic structures are very important points in order to read the AD.

  • The eyeS of human beings are the very interesting objects of research, which were believed to do deliver any meanings without direct words and also to represent best description of key characteristics of humans than any other parts in the body. With respect to this hypothesis on eyes, the study of various expressions of eyes is the fascinating research topic in the area of optical design which is deeply connected to the figurative images. Traditionally, physiognomy was settled by many Koreans to become one of the branches of discourses. Physiognomy has been developed through the statistical summaries of life patterns of various kinds 'of science based on the results of systematical analysis. This research was focused on elucidating the relationship between the consumers' perception and the image of eyes which were thought to be the most important sign emitted from the body of human beings. Furthermore, study was conducted to derive a practical usage from the research results if above relationship was showed to be true. It was unveiled that the considerable close relationship was established with small errors and that eye's image was compensated and enhanced with the help of lip's image to obtain more perfect image. As a result, it was concluded that the rationales of phtsiognomy could assist to choose figures as a figurative image. (Keyword)

  • This study investigates pre-service teacher's understanding of the concept and representations of irrational numbers. We classified the representations of irrational numbers into six categories; non-fraction, decimal, symbolic, geometric, point on a number line, approximation representation. The results of this study are as follows. First, pre-service teachers couldn't relate non-fractional definition and incommensurability of irrational numbers. Secondly, we observed the centralization tendency on symbolic representation and the little attention to other representations. Thirdly, pre-service teachers had more difficulty moving between symbolic representation and point on a number line representation of ${\pi}$ than that of $\sqrt{5}$ We suggested the concept of irrational numbers should be learned in relation to various representations of irrational numbers.

Optimization of Cooking Conditions of Brown Sauce by Sensory Evaluation and Response Surface Method (관능검사와 반응표면분석에 의한 브라운소스 제법의 최적화)

  • Method to access qualities of brown sauce and optimize its cooking conditions was studied by sensory evaluation and response surface methodology. Cooks of an hotel, sauce experts, were selected as sensory panelists, and the brown sauce cooking conditions practically used in an hotel were adopted to prepare sauce samples for the sensory test. The cooking conditions were designed with two factors, i.e., one factor of roux contents with three levels and the other factor of cooking times with three levels, which were known as most important in sauce cooking. Sensory acceptance evaluation with intensity 7 grades was applied for several sauce attributes such as color, flavour, viscosity, taste and overall. Ability of each panel to perceive the differences between the brown sauces prepared under different cooking conditions was judged, and only data of the 9 panelists proved as reliable among the 12 panelists were reflected. The acceptances by different cooking conditions were found to be in the order of 11 > 9 > 13% roux contents and 8 > 9 > 7 hr cooking times. Response surface methodology was treated with second-order model on the sensory data and the optimum cooking conditions with the highest acceptances were $10.3{\sim}10.8%$ roux content and 8 hr cooking time.
