  • This paper examines the effect of corporate social responsosibility(CSR) on the firm value. Based on the argument that CSR would play the role of mitigating conflicts between firms and society, I hypothesized that CSR would enhance the firm value. This study used regression analysis with a data set of 733 from 2009 to 2012 using KEJI(Korean Economic Justice Institute) Index. An Index published by KEJI was used as the measure of CSR performance. The results of this study are summarized as follows: First, there is a significant positive relation between CSR and firm value. Second, in the seven-rating items consist of the KEJI Index, most items have the positive relationship with the firm value. These results suggest that firm with higher CSR activities exhibit better financial performance as measured by Tobin's Q.

  • This paper analyzes for companies of 2011~2014 the effects of corporate social responsibility on audit efficiency. Using KEJI Index and its individual components which is published by Citizens' Coalition for Economic Justice Institute, this paper analyzes their effects on audit efficiency of audit fees and audit hours. The results of analyses are as followings. First, corporate social responsibility(CSR) composite index did not show any significant relationship between audit fees and audit hours. However, for analyses of the effects of CSR individual components on audit efficiency, variable such as CSR fairness(CSR2), CSR social contribution(CSR3), CSR environmental protection activity(CSR5) have the negative effects on the audit fees and audit time. and CSR customer protection(CSR4), CSR employee satisfaction(CSR6) have the positive effects on the audit fees and audit time. Results suggest that independent auditors may reduce audit risks associated with possible misrepresentation of financial statements for companies with high scores of CSR fairness (CSR2), CSR social contribution(CSR3), and CSR environmental protection activity(CSR5). Also, financial statement auditors may perceive surge of discretionary expenses, and set audit risk high for companies with CSR customer protection(CSR4), and CSR employee satisfaction(CSR6). Together, KEJI Index and its individual components appear to have differential effects on audit efficiency.

  • In this study, we aim to examine the impact of corporate social responsibility implementation, which is a major concern in previous research, on investment efficiency. The research method will be a qualitative study with reference to existing previous research. The three main claims to be addressed in this study will be summarized, and the research variables and research models will be described. As a result of the study, based on existing previous research, this study presented three issues to examine how a high level of corporate social responsibility performance increases investment efficiency. First, we argue that a company's high level of social responsibility will be positively related to investment efficiency. Second, it is argued that investment efficiency will be positively related to individual CSR components that represent the interests of primary stakeholders. Third, it is argued that companies with too high a CSR index and companies with a too low CSR index will have less correlation with investment efficiency. The contribution of this study will be to more accurately understand the impact of CSR on corporate investment efficiency. In the future, it is hoped that additional discoveries will be made through research that adopts the three claims presented in this study as hypotheses and empirically analyzes them. • In today's fast-paced capitalistic society, a primary concern is whether to invest capital in any way to increase profits. In recent years, many companies have emphasized ethics and practiced corporate social responsibility activities. These activities are not only required to have at the end of the company. Bringing the ultimate goal of profit maximization is one way to contribute to the development of society and the economy. Investors are aware of corporate social responsibility activities and have begun to reflect this in their investments. We studied the behavior of a newly incorporated company's stock price on the KRX SRI Index using a scale that indicates the level of social responsibility for companies in the domestic stock market. Socially responsible investment involves an excellent company that looks out and looks for additional effects on the stock price of imports and improves the reliability of investors through an event study. The results show that the company we examined has a positive impact on the market. This study confirms the hypothesis that additional stock market reaction will occur when superior companies are newly incorporated in the KRX SRI Index and gain investors' trust. The results demonstrate that becoming a newly incorporated corporation in the KRX SRI Index is positive information to investors.

  • The importance of social responsibility such as ethical management and social contribution activities is emphasized for the sustainable growth of companies. Although there is a great deal of research on corporate social responsibility due to the increase in social interest and expectation, most of them have been limited to research on general manufacturing industry. The purpose of this study is to analyze the effect of social responsibility activities on financial performance. In addition, we want to analyze the difference in the financial performance of companies with excellent social responsibility activities announced by the Institute of Economic Justice and others. The analysis period is from 2011 to 2016, and we analyze using the robust regression methodology which is relatively effective in solving the autocorrelation and this dispersion problem. First, it is proved that the higher the KEJI index, the more positive effect on financial performance. In addition, we found that there is a significant difference in the financial performance of companies with excellent social responsibility activities and those with other social responsibility activities. These results will have important implications for establishing a firm's financial strategy and will serve as useful information for the financial industry that is striving for sustainable management.

  • This study analyzed annual final sample data from 159 companies based on firms selected as economic justice companies by Economic Justice Institute in Citizens' Coalition for Economic Justice in South Korea according to interest variables from 2005 until 2011. Analyzed results are as follows. First, higher scores in soundness and corporate social activities among CSR items suggested that corporate credit rating upgraded. This indicates that credit rating institutions give a good evaluation on their social activities and reflect them in credit rating assessment. However, environmental protection satisfaction and corporate credit rating showed the opposite results. Second, high objectivity and contribution to the economic development as well as supervision by giant auditors had substantial effects on higher corporate credit rating. In contrast, high soundness and supervision by giant auditors reduced corporate credit rating. Based on this outcome, it is estimated that there is a discriminatory response among CSR activities in terms of credit rating evaluation conducted by credit rating institution.

But their results of study different from those of researchers due to the reasons of different methodologies and varieties of variables measuring. Therefore, in this article, setting two hypotheses with sampling 600 corporate firms from 2003 to 2005,first we analyzed financial performance of corporate which is carrying execution into corporate social responsibility and which is not. Second, we analyzed corporate which is carrying execution into corporate social responsibility before and after. In results of this paper, carrying execution into corporate social responsibility affects financial performance badly in short term. That's why we need to study for further more long term periods such as after 5-years or so. And financial performance of corporate which is carrying execution into corporate social responsibility is higher than others, accepting the second hypothesis just as this paper has set.

  • The purpose of this study is to identify the CSR activities and to investigate the relationship between CSR activities and business performance. Specifically, we analyzed the companies that were included in the SRI index as CSR activity companies, and analyzed how they affect the business performance of the companies according to SRI index incorporation disclosure. As a result of the analysis, the SRI index incorporation announcement has a significant positive effect on the corporate value(Tobin's Q) but it has not significant effect on the financial performance(ROA). This suggests that CSR activities are offered to companies' managers and stakeholders as a basis for investment rather than expense. In the future research, it will be more meaningful if the study on the intention to participate in CSR activities is conducted based on this study and previous studies.

  • This study investigates the relationship between corporate social responsibility and corporate governance among major US corporations belonging to S&P 500 index during 2000-2008. Specifically, it examines the ways in which firms engage their boards of directors in integrated strategy by establishing a public affairs(PA) or social responsibility(SR) committee at the board level and the effects of this practice on their corporate social performance(CSP). The empirical findings show that negative CSP is the major driver for establishing such a committee, that is, firms suffering from negative CSP as a result of experiencing undesirable social events tend to establish such a committee. On the other hand, such a committee helps the firm increase positive CSP once it is established. In other words, the purpose of establishing such board-level committees is to address problems associated with negative CSP, and once established, they can help enhance positive CSP by enabling the firm to integrate market, non-market, and social responsibility aspects in strategy formulation more effectively. This is evidence that Baron's integrated strategy framework can help firms achieve tangible outcomes.
