  • The timeliness and accuracy of test results are crucial factors for clinicians to decide and promptly administer effective and targeted antimicrobial therapy, especially in life-threatening infections or when vital organs and functions, such as sight, are at risk. Further research is needed to refine and optimize matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization time-of-flight mass spectrometry (MALDI-TOF MS)-based assays to obtain accurate and reliable results in the shortest time possible. MALDI-TOF MS-based bacterial identification focuses primarily on techniques for isolating and purifying pathogens from clinical samples, the expansion of spectral libraries, and the upgrading of software. As technology advances, many MALDI-based microbial identification databases and systems have been licensed and put into clinical use. Nevertheless, it is still necessary to develop MALDI-TOF MS-based antimicrobial-resistance analysis for comprehensive clinical microbiology characterization. The important applications of MALDI-TOF MS in clinical research include specific application categories, common analytes, main methods, limitations, and solutions. In order to utilize clinical microbiology laboratories, it is essential to secure expertise through education and training of clinical laboratory scientists, and database construction and experience must be maximized. In the future, MALDI-TOF mass spectrometry is expected to be applied in various fields through the use of more powerful databases.

  • The current weapon system is operated as a complex weapon system with various standards and protocols applied, so there is a risk of failure in smooth information exchange during combined and joint operations on the battlefield. The interoperability of weapon systems to carry out precise strikes on key targets through rapid situational judgment between weapon systems is a key element in the conduct of war. Since the Korean military went into service, there has been a need to change the configuration and improve performance of a large number of software and hardware, but there is no verification system for the impact on interoperability, and there are no related test tools and facilities. In addition, during combined and joint training, errors frequently occur during use after arbitrarily changing the detailed operation method and software of the weapon/power support system. Therefore, periodic verification of interoperability between weapon systems is necessary. To solve this problem, rather than having people schedule an evaluation period and conduct the evaluation once, AI should continuously evaluate the interoperability between weapons and power support systems 24 hours a day to advance warfighting capabilities. To solve these problems, To this end, preliminary research was conducted to improve defense interoperability capabilities by applying natural language processing techniques (①Word2Vec model, ②FastText model, ③Swivel model) (using published algorithms and source code). Based on the results of this experiment, we would like to present a methodology (automated evaluation of interoperability requirements evaluation / level measurement through natural language processing model) to implement an automated defense interoperability evaluation tool without relying on humans.

  • This study develops a deep learning-based methodology for predicting Crude Palm Oil (CPO) prices. Palm oil is an essential resource across various industries due to its yield and economic efficiency, leading to increased industrial interest in its price volatility. While numerous studies have been conducted on palm oil price prediction, most rely on time series forecasting, which has inherent accuracy limitations. To address the main limitation of traditional methods-the absence of stationarity-this research introduces a novel model that uses the ratio of future prices to current prices as the dependent variable. This approach, inspired by return modeling in stock price predictions, demonstrates superior performance over simple price prediction. Additionally, the methodology incorporates the consideration of lag values of independent variables, a critical factor in multivariate time series forecasting, to eliminate unnecessary noise and enhance the stability of the prediction model. This research not only significantly improves the accuracy of palm oil price prediction but also offers an applicable approach for other economic forecasting issues where time series data is crucial, providing substantial value to the industry.

  • The Geonjae Old House Garden of Asan Oeam Village contains historical and academic values as a major element of the village's landscape, along with the village's feng shui geographical conditions and artificial roads that pass through the village, which represent the village. Although some have been maintained over a long period of time, many of them have been lost, disturbed, and distorted. The main houses of Oeam Village had traditional gardens, but the garden of the Geonjae Old House is a place where different garden cultures coexist in one place due to the creation of Japanese-style gardens in Japanese colonial era. This study predicts the past through genetic analysis of the garden of the Geonjae Old House, and establishes a restoration plan for the garden of the Geonjae Old House through historical restoration of the results. In addition, the purpose of this study is to suggest a way to avoid damage in restoring the original form of cultural properties as much as possible and to facilitate the preservation and management of cultural properties. As a result of contrast with past photographs and on-site evidence, it was found that the garden of the Geonjae Old House has a different shape from its previous appearance due to repeated distortion and damage. In addition, it was possible to suggest a restoration method that could reproduce the appearance of the past through genetic analysis.

  • This research focuses on the restoration of stone structures situated within the landscaping facilities at royal palace and tomb heritages of the Joseon Dynasty, emphasizing their considerable importance in terms of scale and their contribution to the landscape's aesthetic form. The study conducts its analysis through the lens of three critical value attributes the form and design of the structures, the materials and textures used, and the traditional techniques employed. The subject of the study is the Gonshinji Pond, the pond and royal canal at Yeongneung and Nyeongneung, the royal canal at Gyeongbokgung Palace, and the flower steps at Yeongchunheon and Jipbokheon. Finding instances of stone wall repairs that complied with the established standards for cultural heritage repair proved challenging. Nonetheless, adherence to these norms and a methodical approach to deducing the original structure were evident in the most recent restoration cases. This discovery is likely to have considerable implications for the approach to future stone wall repair and restoration efforts. There's a clear need for the development of detailed guidelines and handbooks that thoroughly document the restoration process for stone walls, as outlined in repair reports.

  • The International Maritime Organization has adopted a strategy for reducing greenhouse gas emissions from international shipping, with enhanced targets to address ship-induced emissions. The liquid-hydrogen proton-exchange membrane fuel cell is promising for complying with such regulations. In general, ship design must adhere to the prescriptive rules of classification societies. However, increasing environmental regulations are enforcing the introduction of new fuels and systems, with the prescriptive rules lagging. Hence, we devise a method to verify new technologies by combining the hazard and operability study (HAZOP) and layer of protection analysis (LOPA) for a hydrogen fuel gas-supply system. The HAZOP allows us to identify hazardous scenarios, whereas the LOPA enables us to quantitatively complement the qualitative HAZOP results. The existing initiating event frequency and failure-on-demand probability of independent protection layers (IPLs) are identified. To determine the adequacy of the existing IPLs, we compare the estimated current mitigation with a risk-acceptance criterion. Additional IPLs are recommended when required to satisfy the risk criteria. Results show that HAZOP-LOPA can be potentially used to assess novel systems not yet adopted in the maritime sector.

  • Smart phones have been technologically advanced in many ways from basic cellular phones. However, most of all smart phone users in Korea still have been using the traditional Korean character keypads used in the basic cellular phones. It would be required to develop new keypads on smart phones with touch screen. In this paper, we extended the three standard Korean character keypads - Cheonjiin, Naragul, and SKY-Hangul - by adding dragging function on touch screen, then we compared writing speeds of the keypads based on the number of touching buttons and moving distance of the finger while writing a sentence. In addition, we proposed two new Korean keypads - 's-Gana' and 's-Bada', which are more suitable on smart phones. s-Gana assigned 7 representative consonants and 5 representative vowels in order on the 4x3 keypad, and s-Bada assigned consonants and vowels by considering their frequency of use. s-Gana and s-Bada keypads showed 3~19% and 9~24% of performance improvement, respectively, compared with the standard Korean keypads. Finally, we set up 5 requisites of SELF-T in order to evaluate the usability of Korean character keypads in smart phones, then we compared the keypads using the requisites.

  • In recent years, an ingress of mass jellyfish into cooling water intake system causes interruption of electric power production at the Uljin nuclear power plant. Therefore, monitering and forecast on the mass ingress of marine organisms are demanded as one of the early preventing measurements. Sea water movement is a major factor on the ingress of marine organisms like Moon jellyfish which has weak self-mobile ability. When sea surface flow direction adjacent to the Uljin is the northwest, the jellyfish on the Tsushima warm currents move to the Uljin power plant. To detect the direction of sea surface warm flows, the spatial range with $25km{\times}25km$ is set up and NOAA sea surface temperature(SST) data are collected in this area. For the statistical analysis, the SST data are made as GIS point data and geostatistical analysis of ArcGIS is used. Analyzing directional semivariogram, the anisotropy of the SST point data are calculated and warm flow direction is detected. This experimental results are expected to use as an element technology for the early warning system development of mass jellyfish ingress in power plant.

  • In the design of pile foundation on the rock layer in the stratified structure with sedimentary and rock layers, the structural analysis of the stratified rock layer is required to determine the failure modes (flexural failure, punching shear failure or end bearing failure) and the bearing capacity of the rock layer. However, the existing usable Elastic Plate Analysis Method (EPAM) suggested by ACI committee 436 and Korean Code Requirements for Structural Foundation Design is very complex, and engineers have many difficulties in using it. Therefore, in this research, we proposed the relatively simple Circular Foundation Analysis Method (CFAM) with the concept and the equation of the equivalent effective width (radius) instead of the complex EPM, and the related equations of bending moment and shear force to be equal to the analysis results of EPAM. As a result, the proposed CFAM using the equivalent effective width (radius) is simple and convenient to use, and the analysis results of it are very good in their accuracies comparing those of EPAM and Finite Element Method.

  • To investigate the influences of morphological features and the chemical compound of rice grain on the crack of rice kernels, rice was cultivated under the different method of fertilizer application and was harvested at optimal and late stage to the crack features of kernels of cracked and healthy grains. The results are summarized as follows ; The occurrence of cracked kernel was more severe in "Samgang-byeo" than in "Nagdong-byeo" and the rice harvested at the late stage was more cracked kernel than that of optimal harvest. The application of silicate fertilizer in addition to the N.P.K. fertilizer resulted in the decrease of cracked kernels. The grain weight, the grain volume (length ${\times}$ width ${\times}$ thickness), grain length and grain length/grain width etc. of the cracked kernels were larger than those of the healthy grains. The long "Samgang-byeo", having the long grain Shape, which has larger ratio of grain length/grain width than that of "Nagdong-byeo", shows higher rate of cracked kernels. The grain of "Samgang-byeo" which is easily cracked relatively it contains lower silica and higher phosphorus while "Nagdong-byeo" shows the opposite results. The ratio of silica/phosphorus in the grain was low in "Samgang-byeo" but it was high in "Nagdong-byeo". The ratio of silica/phosphorus in rice grain was increased by the application of silicate fertilizer in addition with N.P.K. fertilizers.
