The study acknowledges the values of periodical indexing as information resources. The study identified periodicals users' needs of article indexing services based on focus group interviews. The study also conducted a comparative study of periodicals indexing services of libraries and databases in Korea and the US. The study argues for the need of seamless services for users of periodical articles indexing services. The study also recommends the elements needed for improving the current service, which includes establishing a collaborative indexing system, adopting a metadata standard, implementing authority files, incorporating social web services, offering diverse ways of information discovery based on facet approach, and stabilizing identification systems.

신문만화는 신문에 실린 기사중 가장 핵심적인 내용을 간략한 그림으로 함축하여 정보를 전달한다. 그러나 만화의 함축성과 비유, 짤막한 텍스트 때문에 객관적인 색인어의 추출이 어려운 것이 사실이다. 본 연구에서는 신문만화에서 키워드를 추출하기 위하여 만화의 내용과 관련이 있는 신문기사에서 색인어를 추출하는 방안에 대해 논하였다. 연구에서는 조선일보에 게재된 한컷만화과 네컷만화를 각 1점씩 예로 들어 비주제색인어와 주제색인어를 부여하였다. 특히 주제색인어는 내용상의 연관성이 있는 신문기사를 선정하여 추출하였다.

As most of the domestic newspaper companies are adopting CTS system, the need for automatic indexing system, which can transfer the full-text into a computer, is sharply expanding. The Matter of vmbulary control for newspaper database has been studied for a long time. These efforts hadn't made any good achievements until JOINS Thesaurus system developed. The purpx of this paper is to introduce JOINS Thesaurus whch the Jcong-ang Daily News has developed for the first time in Korea. Ths study was prformed to measure the indexmg coverage of the periol~cal literature on a sub'||'&'||' area inKorean language policy. A bibliography of 675 citations dated 1977-1990 was obtained through Xugohaknonpmongnokjip'.Coverage was determined by checlung the citations against 2 indexmg services, Ch-dg~idm"and Xugogungrnunhaknonmunmongrok". For the period 1977-1990, T h o n g g g a n h a n g m s consistentlyprovided coverage of about 63%. For the pencd 1986-1990, Xugogungmunhaknonmunmongrok" providedcoverage of about 33% and the combined coverage of the two services was abut 78%. The extent of overlap anduniqueness of both indexmg services are measured. The analysis also includes the subst of the indexed art~cles andthe type of perid'||'&'||' Omitted.rid& Omitted.

In this paper, we propose index method introducing distance concept in word by a method weighting word. This index method is frequent representing an inquiry word and document index and compound noun or more than two adjoin nouns or noun phrase, the farther the distance between these nouns, the fewer selected ratio decreases in index point is the aiming, this choose guide word candidate by existent weight grant method and distance between candidates chose candidate finally in index within 3 sentences. Using in these way I document of 100 kinds of newspaper, scientific treatise, web document and so on, showed the correctness rate resulted of newspaper 92.03% scientific treatise 95% web document 73.33%.

본 연구는 자동색인시스템의 색인기능을 통해서 추출된 색인어를 이용해서 검색시스템에서 요구되는 전거파일을 구축하는 작업의 효용성을 확인하기 위한 시험적 연구의 결과를 정리한 것이다. 언론연구원의 KINDS 서비스 시스템의 신문기사 데이터베이스에서 색인시스템을 통해 추출된 약 80만개의 색인어를 기본자료로 삼아 색인어를 하위분류하고, 그것을 이용한 전거파일 구축의 가능성을 타진해 본 것이다.
