The goal of this research is to compare influences for living periods between physical functional satisfaction and psychological emotional satisfaction in a ghetto area. The research site is 'Sujin1 dong' in Sungnam city which is one of the oldest residential areas in the city. Based on the analysis of the urban contexts for the research site, surveys are conducted to gather the data which are treated by several statistical techniques: 'Factor analysis', 'Reliability Analysis', 'Multiple regression analysis'. Through the statistical process, conclusions are drawn as follows. In the ghetto urban area, (1)-The higher the psychological emotional satisfaction, the longer the living period, (2)-The longer the residence period, the lower the physical and functional satisfaction, (3)-The two satisfactions tend to be opposite to each other according to the living period. (4)-The psychological emotional satisfaction is more related with living period than the physical and functional satisfaction is.

Louis Sullivan insisted, "Form follows function." Functionality is one of the most fundamental elements for users to use product or space, and "function" in space and architecture has the meaning of the most important factor in determining its form. In this way, from the viewpoint of "Functionalism," the research selected Toyo Ito to see how important elements pursued by Functionalism are related to his forms of creation. Small residential space projects of Toyo Ito from the early 1970s to the present are selected, so that the structure, material and space type of space and architecture can easily grasped and analyzed. Space and architectural structures and surfaces were classified into the characteristics of materials and classified according to the strength of openness of space. As a result, the space and architecture that pursue the function use a method that can maximize the efficiency of the function while excluding the whole decoration in order to highlight the function. The characteristics found in Toyo Ito's small-scale residential space can be defined as the formalization and simplification of the form, the openness of space, and the versatility of each element.

본 연구에서는 건물의 규모, 용도 및 형식 등에 따라 다양하게 요구되는 성능에 대응할 수 있도록 하기 위한 성능설계에 대한 개념을 검증하고, 강구조 건축물의 특성을 고려한 성능레벨 및 성능한계에 대한 분류방법을 제안하였다. 또한 강구조 건축물의 경우 강도가 높고 경량인 특성에 의해 다른 구조형식에서는 크게 고려하지 않아도 되는 거주성능 및 진동특성을 제어하여 기능을 유지하기 위한 성능레벨을 설정하여 구조물이 항복하기 전의 성능레벨을 기능유지 및 무손상의 2단계로 제시하고, 이 때의 한계치를 기능한계 및 손상한계로 구분하였다. 강구조 건축물의 손상한계를 정의하기 위해 강구조 건축물의 설계 예를 이용하여 항복 층간변형각을 조사하였다. 그 결과 구조물의 손상발생을 억제할 수 있는 손상한계를 규정하기 위해 주로 사용하고 있는 층간변형각은 구조형식 및 설계방법에 따라 편차가 크게 나타나고 있으므로 손상한계치의 층간변형각을 임의로 설정하는 것은 매우 어려우며 향후 이에 대한 해석적, 실험적 검증이 필요할 것으로 판단되었다.

Architectural evidence of Gaya is insignificant than any other area. In this situation, house-shaped earthenware is particularly helpful in the study of Gaya architecture. However, house-shaped earthenware is not a building, it has just the shape of buildings. So, we have to find out architectural evidence from that. In this paper, I tried to estimate the architectural characteristics of Gaya through house-shaped earthenware in detail. I also consulted historical records, archeological results, and other scholars' papers. The results are as follows. First, house-shaped earthenware can be classified into three types according to its shape, and each type has distinct architectural structural characteristics. Second, house-shaped earthenware generally has a gambrel roof, and the characteristic of architectural design with the gable side of the gambrel roof as a front is the biggest feature of Gaya architecture. Third, various types of buildings existed according to their functions in Gaya architecture, and house-shaped earthenware was showed buildings of ancient storage, pens, and residences, which are symbols of the richness among various types of buildings.
