The authors have experienced a case of organic mental disorder with bilateral frontal lobe atrophy in a 36-year-old man. He showed negative symptoms of schizophrenia such as anhedonia, social withdrawal, flat affect, poverty of thought.
Two functional modified-butterfats (MF668 and MF866) were synthesized with two blends (6:6:8 and 8:6:6, w/w%) of anhydrous butterfat (ABF), palm stearin (PS) and flaxseed oil (FSO, omega-3) via lipase-catalyzed interesterification reaction. Their flavor characteristic was investigated using electronic nose and SPME-GC/MS analysis. Each flavor pattern of ABF, FSO, MF668 and MF866 was significantly discriminated with first principal component score of 95.16% in PCA plot. In functional modified-butterfats analyzed with SPME-GC/MS, various volatile compounds such as aldehydes, ketones, acids, and alkanes were detected.

Lactulose (4-O-${\beta}$-D-galactopyranosyl-D-fructose) is a non-digestible synthetic ketose disaccharide which can used in food and pharmaceutical fields due to its useful functions for encephalopathy, chronic constipation, hyperammonemia, etc. Therefore, the lactulose is regarded as one of the most important disaccharides and have been concentrated much interesting as an attractive functional material in the current industry. From this reason, the research related on the production of lactulose has been carried out various academic and industrial research groups. To produce lactulose, two main methods, chemical production and enzymatic production have been used. Commercially lactulose produced by alkaline isomerization of lactose as chemical production method but it has many disadvantages such as rapid lactulose degradation, purification, and waste management. From these reasons, lactulose produced by enzymatic method which solves these problems has been suggested as a proper method for lactulose production. Two different enzymatic methods have been reported as methods for lactulose production. Lactulose can be obtained through hydrolysis and transfer reaction catalyzed by a ${\beta}$-galactosidase which requires fructose as co-substrate and exhibits a low conversion. Alternatively, lactulose can be produced by direct isomerization of lactose to lactulose catalyzed by cellobiose 2-epimerase which requires lactose as a single substrate and achieves a high lactulose yield. This review summarizes the current state of lactulose production by chemical and biological methods.

In modern society, indoor activities time is increasing due to industrial development. Interest in indoor air quality is increasing as indoor activity time increases. The main causes of indoor air pollution are formaldehyde which a chemical cause, and fungi which a biological cause. Phytoncide effectively reduces Formaldehyde and Fungi. Charcoal which possess porous-structure has a good absorbance of pollutants. In this study, the authors manufactured functional cement matrix using by phytoncide and charcoal to remove formaldehyde and fungi. In this study, Functional cement matrix reduced formaldehyde and Fungi and effectively improve indoor air quality.
The abilities of metabolic substrates, glucose, pyruvate, and acetate to produce a maximal increase in the force of contraction of substrate-depleted atria from fed rats were compared to those from starved rats, in order to observe the effect of starvation on substrate utilization of the myocardium. Starvation results in a marked loss of body weight in rats. In contrast to the starved rats, the body weight of fed rats increased with time. When placed in substrate-free medium, atria from fed rats showed marked decline in contractile force. In contrast to the atria from fed rats, the substrate-depleted atria from starved rats showed much less decline of the force of contraction. In the substrate-free medium, abilities of glucose, pyruvate, and acetate to produce a maximal increase in the force of contraction of atria from fed rats were much greater than those from starved rats. The data from these studies indicate that in the substrate-free medium atria from starved rats utilize much less exogenous substrates than those from fed rats. These results suggest that starvation has no deleterious effect on contractile activity of the myocardium, and the starvation increase the storage of readily metabolizable endogenous substrstes useful for the functional activity of the isolated heart.

The functional distinction between stem and progenitor cells is well established in several tissues, particularly in the blood. There, hematopoietic stem cells preserve their self-renewal potential and reconstitution ability in the bone marrow niche. Bone marrow represents a unique setting in which to examine how stroma influences tissue function. It was the setting in which the experimental definition of a niche was first provided in mammalian stem cell biology and where clear evidence for non-cell-autonomous oncogenesis was first defined. The relationship between bone and blood is ancient as all animals since the divergence of fish that have bones and blood, make blood in their bones. This long coevolution engendered complex interrelationships, including the first proposed and first experimentally defined niche for stem cells in mammals. Multiple bone marrow stromal cell types serve as regulators of hematopoiesis, and the dysfunction of some causes myelodysplasia and leukemia. However, no comprehensive atlas of stromal subpopulations exists. Therefore, we think these data point to something of importance, such as how the needs and challenges of the organism become translated down to distinct cell types that critically govern specific functions within tissues and do so at the level of a single molecule. We think this will be of broad interest to those focusing on systems biology and the physiology of organisms, particularly those seeking a molecular basis for understanding cell and tissue behavior. We summarized the current and emerging concepts of hematopoietic stem cells and bone marrow niche.
The objective of this study was to screen the antimutagenicity of yam enzymatic browning reaction product (YEBRP), mucopolysaccharide and dietary fiber from yam to the mutagen of sodium azide and 2-aminoflourene (2-AF). Antimutagenicity of YEBRP on the mutagenicity of sodium azide showed no difference compared to control without YEBRP but that of 2-AF was high In all substrate. (P<0.01) On the mutagenicity of sodium azide and 2-AF, antimutagenicity of mucopolysaccharide and dietary fiber were high (p<0.01) in $\alpha$-cellulose and hemicellulose, Antimutagenicity of u-cellulose on the mutagenicity of 2-AF was high at 5 hours reaction time but that was decreased as the reaction time increased.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the effects of complex ergogenic aid supplementation on endurance performance, energy substrate utilization (glucose, FFA) and blood fatigue factors (ammonia, lactate, phosphorous, pH, 5-HT) in endurance exercise. Subjects (male=10) took in complex ergogenic aid (180 ml/day) for 4 weeks and were tested after pre-test. Endurance performance times increased after supplementation compared to before supplementation. However, there was no additional accumulation of the fatigue materials. Thus the complex ergogenic aid supplementation caused the delay of the fatigue material accumulation during endurance exercise.
Enzymatic hydrolysis with tuna pyloric caeca crude enzyme(TPCCE) was performed to recover a protein hydrolysate from hoki frame, fish processing by-product. Optimum hydrolytic conditions were pH 10.0, temperature $50^{\circ}C$, and incubation time 12 hrs, and then the degree of hydrolysis was about 60%. The yield of the hydrolysate from hoki frame by enzymatic hydrolysis was approximately 77% on a dry weight basis. The prepared protein hydrolysates were also fractionated through a series of 30, 10, 5 and 1 kDa molecular weight cut-off (MWCO) membranes in order to investigate the effect of their functionalities according to the difference of their molecular size. As the result of studying functionalities of the hydrolysates, 1 K hydrolysate showed the highest solubility over all pHs, and 30 and 10 K hydrolysate showed more excellent emulsifying property and whippability than the other hydrolysates.
