Recently, securing a vast land in the land region becomes more difficult and efforts to seek its alternation in the sea area have been increased. As a consequence, the coastal region has been faced to extensive beach erosion problems. In planning offshore structures such as artificial islands, it is necessary to forecast the influence of the structure construction exerting on the beach erosion of the adjacent coast. In the present study, the sediment movement pattern behind offshore structure was examined through a series of three dimensional movable bed experiments, so as to develop the numerical model which forecasts morphological change including beach erosions. The experimental results reveal that the sediment movement patterns of the beach line side and the depth region are separated at a certain boundary line. In details, at the beach side including swash zone the sediment movement becomes dominant, which is governed by a relation between depth contours and incident wave directions, while at the depth region the bed load and suspended load due to the orbit motion of waves are carried by nearshore currents, and both movements are clearly separated at a specified boundary that is related to partial standing wave from the beach. It is expected that these results can be effectively used for verification of a numerical model on morphological change of the coast.

Purpose : Cerebral palsies are the most common and severe motor disabilities in childhood. There is currently increased interest in their occurrence and patterns of likely cause for a variety of reasons. Therefore, a retrospective study was carried out to understand the clinical features of cerebral palsy. Methods : A retrospective chart review was conducted of all children with cerebral palsy who were diagnosed at St. Benedict Hospital between March 1999 and March 2001. Results : Cerebral palsy patients were classified into 6 major groups. Of six groups, spastic diplegia is the most common type of cerebral palsy(55.3%). The risk factors of cerebral palsy were placenta previa(1 case), placenta abruption(1 case), cytomegalovirus infection(1 case), prematurity (53 cases), neonatal asphyxia(12 cases), dystocia(2 cases), breech delivery(1 case), multiple birth(5 cases), head trauma(3 cases), meningitis(2 cases) and unknown(26 cases). Among the 59 in the preterm group, 37 patients showed MR or CT images of periventricular leukomalacia. Among the 44 in the term group, 15 patients showed MR or CT images of atrophy. Among 103 patients, 29 patients(28.2%) had a seizure disorder. Conclusion : It is very importent to understand the clinical features and risk factors of cerebral palsy for physicians to diagnose and manage cerebral palsy patient.

The lower limb orthosis with a pneumatic rubber actuator, which is intended for the assistance and the enhancement of muscular activities of lower limbs was developed in this study. Compared to other knee extension assistive devices being developed by other researchers, our device is designed especially for the elderly people and intended only for slight assistance so that the subjects can keep their muscular strength. For the effectiveness of system, muscular activities of major muscles in lower limbs during sit-to-stand (STS) and squat motion were measured and analyzed. Subjects were performed the STS and squat motion with and without lower limb orthosis. We made comparison muscular activities between with and without lower limb orthosis. Lower limb orthosis was controlled using muscular stiffness force feedback that is controlled by muscular activities of the measured muscle from force sensor. For analysis of muscular activities, electromyography of the subjects was measured during STS and squat motion, and these were measured using MP 150(BIOPAC Systems, Inc.). Muscles of interest were rectus femoris(RF), vastus lateralis(VL), vastus medialis(VM) and vastus intermedius(VI) muscles in lower limbs of the right side. A biodex dynamometer was used to measure the maximal concentric isokinetic strength of the knee extensors of wearing and not wearing orthosis on right side. The test were performed using the concentric isokinetic mode of test with the velocity set at 60°/s for muscles around the knee joints. The experimental result showed that muscular activities in lower limbs wearing orthosis using muscular stiffness force of a vastus medialis muscle was reduced and knee extension torque of an knee joint wearing lower limb orthosis was increased. With this, we confirmed the effectiveness of the developed lower limb orthosis.

This study was conducted to provide the basic data for the prevention and management of health risk of dental technicians by proposing the necessary data in the management of the health related quality of life of dental technicians. The subjects of the survey were 141 dental technicians working in 30 dental technical laboratories and corresponding companies in Daejeon area. A structured self-entry type questionnaire survey was implemented by measuring the work environment from December 20, 2011 to January 31, 2012 at the same time. The total score of health index showed a significant difference according to the working hours and smoking state as the a factor of the individual level, the physical health index showed a significant difference according to the smoking state and the exercise habits as the factor of the individual level. The mental health index showed a significant difference according to the working hours and smoking state as the factor of the individual level. The significant variable did not appear in the predictor of the group level. In conclusion, the quality of life of dental technicians in relation to health appeared to have a larger effect on the factor of the individual level than the factor of the group level.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine factors influencing health related quality of life(HRQOL) in patients with hypertension. Methods: This study carried out secondary analysis using the data from the $5^{th}$ Korean National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey. Subject samples who were selected are 1,240 hypertension patients. The data were analyzed by using descriptive statistics, traditional classic regression, and quantile regression. Results: Restriction of activity, depressive mood, and subjective health status had only significant effects on HRQOL(p<.001). After quantile regression, depressive mood and subjective health status had only significant at 20%(p<.001), 40%(p<.001), and 60%(p<.01) of HRQOL. Perceived stress(p<.001) and regular exercise(p<.01) had only significant at 20% of HRQOL. Current drinking status had only significant at 20%(p<.001) and 80%(p<.01) of HRQOL. Conclusions: Quantile regression maybe a better statistical tool in understanding the heterogeneous effect of hypertension patient's HRQOL as health outcome. Therefore interventions are needed for patients with hypertension to manage each of the factors affecting the patient's perceived health status by each quantile.

Objectives: This study examined the characteristics and related factors by comparing the lifestyles and health behaviors between Korean Seventh-day Adventists and the general population of Korea. Methods: A survey was conducted of 878 people more than 20-years-old Korean Seventh-day Adventists who live in the metropolitan area and 3,000 people more than 20-years-old who live in the metropolitan area in 4th (2nd year) National Health and Nutrition Survey. A comparison of health behaviors related to health screenings, smoking, drinking, physical activity, subjective stress, weight management, and oral health was analyzed using a chi-square test. Logistic regression analysis was used to identify the contributing factor to the health behavior. Results: Health screening rates among Korean Seventh-day Adventists were higher than the general population (p<0.001), but Korean Seventh-day Adventists showed lower rates of health screening in the 20-30 ages. Lifetime smoking experience rates and current smoking rates were significantly lower in the Korean Seventh-day Adventists than in the general population (p<0.001). The success rate of smoking cessation among ex-smokers of Korean Seventh-day Adventists were very high. In terms of the drinking rate, Korean Seventh-day Adventists were significantly lower than the general population (p<0.001). The drinking rate of men was higher than women (p<0.001). Moderate physical activity of men were higher than women in Korean Seventh-day Adventists (p<0.001). Conclusion: The lifestyles and health behaviors of Korean Seventh-day Adventists, such as tobacco smoking and alcoholic drinking, were eminently healthier than the general population. Nevertheless, further well-organized studies will be needed.
Reliability evaluations of linear low density polyethylene (LLDPE) pipe with respect of thermal exposure time have been investigated in accordance with RS M 0042, which is a reliability standard for polymer pipe. As the thermal exposure time is prolonged, a progressive increase, until 250 days, in tensile strength and a slight increase in hardness are observed, while a proportional decrease in elongation at break is showed. These results can be explained by the increase of crystallinity, followed by the increase of crosslinking density, chain scission and the decrease in chain mobility, due to thermal oxidation as the exposure time increases. Long term hydrostatic pressure test result implies the existence of transition point from ductile to brittle fracture. Oxidation induction time (OIT) test is employed to monitor the thermo-oxidative degradation of LLDPE pipe. This result shows that after the exposure time is 250 days, the depletion of antioxidants added in LLDPE pipe occurs. An empirical equation as function of exposure time, under $100^{\circ}C$ thermal-degradation condition, is proposed to assess the remaining amount of antioxidants owing to thermo-oxidative degradation. Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy results show the increase of carbonyl (-C=O) and hydroxyl (O-H) function groups on the surface of thermally exposed LLDPE pipe. This result suggests that the hydrocarbon groups locally undergo the oxidation on the LLDPE surface due to thermal-degradation.
From January 1990 through December 1995, 43 patients underwent diaphragmatic plication for the management of phrenic nerve palsy .complicating various pediatric cardiovascular surgery. Their mean age at plication was 11.1 months and sex ratio was 31 males to 12 females. In order of decreasing incidence, the primary cardiovascular procedures included modified Blalock-Taussig shunt (7), total correction for the Tetralogy of Falloff (7), arterial switch operation (6), unifocalization for the pulmonary atresia with VSD (3), modified Fontan operation (3), VSD patch closure (3) and others. The involved sides of diaphragm were right in 17, left in 2) and bilateral in 3. Extensive pericardial resection with electocauterization of resected margin was thought to be the most common cause of phrenic nerve palsy (20). The interval between primary operation and plication ranged from the day of operation to 98 days (median 11 days). The methods of plication were central pleating technique(plication with phrenic nerve branch preservation) in 41, and other technique In 2. 10 patients died after plication (7: early, 3; late), and the causes of death were thought to be unrelated to plication itself. Among the 36 early survivors, extubation or cessation of positive pressure ventilation could be accomplished between 1 and 24 days postoperatively(mean : 4.5). Cumulative follow-up was 92 patient years without major complications. Postoperative follow-up fluoroscopy was performed in 6 patients, and the location and movement of plicated diaphragms were satisfactory in 5 patients. We concluded that diaphragmatic plication with preservation of phrenic n rve branch could lead to cessation of positive pressure ventilation and complete recovery of diaphragmatic function in the long term, unless the phrenic nerve was irreversibly damaged.

Since January 1, 2020, the International Maritime Organization (IMO) has put in place strong regulations to reduce air pollution caused by ships by lowing the upper limit of ship fuel oil sulfur content from 3.5% to 0.5% for ships passing through all sea areas around the world. Although it is important to reduce air pollutants by using fuel oil with low sulfur content, reducing the amount of energy waste through the economic operation of a ship can also help reduce air pollutants. Ships can follow designated routes accurately even under the influence of noise using autopilot systems. However, regardless of their quality, the performance of these systems is af ected by noise; heading angles with added measurement noise from the gyroscope are input into the autopilot system and degrade its performance. A technique to solve these problems reduces noise effects through the application of a Kalman filter, which is widely used in condition estimation. This method, however, cannot completely eliminate the effects of noise. Therefore, to further improve noise removal performances, in this study we propose a better denoising method than the Kalman filter technique by applying a multi-layer perceptron (MLP) in forward direction motion and a Kalman Filter in rotation motion. Simulations show that the proposed method improves forward direction motion by preventing the malfunction of a rudder more so than merely using a Kalman Filter.

The purpose of this study was to investigate between low back pain scale and disability index owing to gait pattern. For the period of February 1 to February 29, 2004, we had conducted a questionnaire and direct interview with 100 persons lived in Daejeon. The result were as follows: 1. The stride length of experimental group, the male was $49.9{\pm}12.9cm$, the female $45.7{\pm}12.9cm$ and the width of feet. the male was $13.5{\pm}5.7cm$, the female $12.2{\pm}4.8cm$. 2. The Fick angle of all subjects was showed in external disposition, the left angle showed in asymmetry, the male was $11.0{\pm}5.7^{\circ}$, the female $8.5{\pm}1.3^{\circ}$. 3. The foot arch was similar to sex as a weight bearing and non-weight bearing, the male was $1.3{\pm}0.8cm$, the female $1.3{\pm}0.9cm$. 4. The impedimental index according to back pain grade, men was a lower than women, the male was $5.7{\pm}6.9$ and the female $7.2{\pm}5.3$. 5. The relation to difference between foot arch and disability index according to back pain grade as a weight bearing and non-weight bearing, the higher foot arch, the higher back pain grade was statistically significance(p<.05). 6. The relation between width of feet and disability index according to back pain grade, the wider width of feet, the higher back pain grade was statistically significance(p<.01). 7. The relation between stride length and disability index according to back pain grade, the wider stride length, the higher back pain grade was statistically significance (p<.05).
