Estimation of Potential Population by IED(Improvised Explosive Device) in Intensive Apartment Area (아파트 밀집지역 급조폭발물 테러 발생 시 잠재피해인구 추정)

  • In this study, we presented a method for estimating the potential population damage of the Seoul Nowon-gu area in the event of a terrorist using a vehicle improvised explosive devices (IED). Using the object-based building extraction method with orthophoto image, the area of the apartment has been determined, and the apartment's height and level were estimated based on the elevation data. Using the population estimation method based on total floor area of building, each apartment resident population was estimated, and then potential population damage at the time of terrorist attacks was estimated around the subway station through a scenario analysis. Terrorism damage using IED depends on the type of vehicle greatly because of the amount loadable explosives. Therefore, potential population damage was calculated based on the type of vehicle. In the results, the maximum potential damage population during terrorist attacks has been estimated to occur around Madeul station, Nowon-gu. The method used in this study can be used various population estimation research and disaster damage estimation.

  • This study aims at countering terror. So, this study explores an implication to Korea through the countermeasure of Japanese organizational direction to countermeasure. As a result, first, some countermeasures on IED need to be sought. Second, a chance of domestic terrorism growing should be checked. Third, safety of major facilities needs to be saught. Finally, Public Service System on Education and Information for Counterterrorism must be built.

  • 본 논문에서는 최근 분쟁지역 뿐 아니라 대테러전쟁에 참가하는 서방국가 내에서도 빈번히 발생하는 급조폭발물(IED)의 발전상에 대해 정리하고 우리나라에서 발생했던 폭발물 관련 테러에 대한 분석과 군 의 역할에 대해 문제를 제기하고 나아갈 방향을 찾아가는 방식으로 고찰하였다. 본 논문에서 제기하는 문제는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 최근 급조폭발물의 유형과 위협은 어떠한가? 둘째, 이에 대비하는 군의 역할 은 무엇인가? 두 가지 문제에 중점을 두고 해답을 찾고 차후 연구 목표를 설정했다.

Performance Analysis on The Reactive Repeater Jamming Techniques Against an RCIED Using Mobile Devices (모바일 단말을 이용한 RCIED에 대한 repeater 방식의 반응 재밍 기법 성능 분석)

  • Recently, terroristic threats using a radio controlled improvised explosive device (RCIED) that is remotely controlled and exploded have been increased around the world. In order to prevent the explosion of an RCIED, jamming techniques that interrupt an RCIED receiver can be used, so that the receiver can not demodulate the trigger code. Conventional jamming technique is a type of active barrage jamming that always emits the noise jamming signal for all the frequency band. However, it needs large power consumption and thus is limited in operation time for a vehicle. In order to overcome the shortage of the active barrage jamming, reactive jamming technique has drawn attention. In reactive jamming, all the frequency band is firstly scanned, and then if any trigger signal exists, one emits the jamming signal to the corresponding frequency band. Therefore, the reactive jamming is superior to the active barrage jamming in terms of power efficiency. However, a reactive jammer emits a jamming signal only after the trigger signal is intercepted, which means that the jamming signal may be late for interrupting an RCIED receiver. In this sense, it is needed to evaluate a delay in an RCIED receiver. To achieve this, we analyze the reaction time and present the simulation result for jamming performance of reactive jamming against an RCIED using mobile devices.
