Electrical Properties of IMI-O Polymer LB Films in Complexed Metal Ion (금속이온 착체에 의한 IMI-O 고분잔 LB막의 전기적 특성)

  • In this paper, poly (N-(2-4-imidazolyl) ethyl) maleimide-alt-1-octadecene (IMI-O) polymer which can complex metal ion was used to confirm the possibility of molecular device made by Langmuir-Blodgett method. Metal/Insulator/Metal (MIM) device was fabricated for investigation of electric properties. In the ${\pi}$-A isotherm, surface pressure at collapse point was different as to the molecular weight of metal ion complexed respectively, In I-V characteristics, currents of MiM devices were different at the same voltage. It was thought that phenomena was occurred by interaction between function group and metal ion.

  • The cis-hex-3-ene-1,5-diynyl-bridged diiron compound 3, [(η$^{5}$ - $C_{5}$ M $e_{5}$ ) Fe(dppe)]$_2$($\mu$-C≡C-CH=CH-C≡C), have been prepared and characterized by cyclic voltammetry(CV), and electronic spectroscopy (UV-VIS and near-IR, NMR). From the results, compound 3 show two well resolved, single-electron, reversible oxidation waves by CV, and comproportionation constant(Kc) calculated from the CV data for compound 3. The Mixed-valence (MV) radical cation 3$^{+}$ show strong absorptions in the near IR, 1586 nm, and this band is more readily assigned as MV $\pi$-$\pi$ band of delocalized complex (Robin-Day Mixed-valence Class III), and the $H_{ab}$ , effective coupling parameter are most consistent with electronic delocalization.

  • An attempt was made to synthesize an ammonia adsorbent by the photo-induced grafting of styrene (St) onto polypropylene (PP) nonwoven using benzoin ethyl ether (BEE) as a photosensitizer with urea and trimethylol propane triacrylate in methanol medium. As styrene concentration was increased, the graft yield was increased. It was also found that the graft yield increased with reaction time. The polypropylene grafted with styrene (PP-g-St) was sulfonated by chlorosulfonic acid in dichloroethane and complexed with several metal ion, such as $cO^{+2}$, $nI^{+2}$, $cU^{+2}$, $Zn^{+2}$. The amount of ammonia gas adsorbed by these sample was dependent on the degree of sulfonation, adsorption time, and ammonia gas pressure. The adsorption capacity of ammonia gas by the sulfonated PP-g-St(SPP-g-St) nonwoven with 4. 25 mmol $H^+$/g was 6.61 mmol/g. Metal ion complexed SPP-g-St nonwovens had higher adsorption capacity than SPP-g-St nonwoven and the $Co^{+2}$ complexed SPP-g-St showed 9.90 mmol $NH_3$/g, which was much higher than that of active carbon or silica gel.

  • The combinatorial approach has been applied to discover and optimize the composition of the novel or enhanced materials. In this study, we screened the optimum composition of the system SrO-Gd$_2$O$_3$-Al$_2$O$_3$ doped with $Tb^{3+}$ by a polymerized-complex combinatorial chemistry method. Mixtures with compositions of Sr, Gd and Al component that is in the range from 0 to 1 in about 0.05 increments could be tested. The sample powders were synthesized by a polymerized complex method. To prepare appropriately polymeric precursors, we used the metallic nitrates, citric acid and ethylene glycol. The luminescence properties of the synthesized powders are investigated using the UV and VUV (Vacuum-UV: 147 nm) photoluminescence spectrometer. In addition, the crystallinity and morphology of powder were monitored by X-ray diffraction spectrometer and scanning electron microscopy. In result of VUV PL works, there are good luminescent samples with the composition of 0.595 < x < 0.733 and 0.016 < y < 0.017 in Gd1-x-yAlxTbyO$\delta$ and 0.049 < x < 0.064 and 0.02 < y < 0.039 in $Sr_xAl_{1-x-y}Tb_yO_$\delta$$, their materials can be applicable to plasma display panels as the green phosphor.

  • Dendrimers represent a new class of synthetic macromolecules characterized by a regularly branched treelike structure. Peculiar features of the dendritic geometry are the large number of end groups as well as the shape persistence in higher generations, approaching spherical geometry. And one of the most peculiar characteristics of dendritic macromolecules is their controlled molecular structure and orientation, which means that they have a practical application in achieving a highly organized molecular arrangement. We attempted to fabricate a G4-48PyA dendrimer LB films containing 48 pyridinealdoxime functional end group that could form a complex structure with metal ions. Also, we investigated the surface activity of dendrimer films at air-water interface. And we have studied the electrical properties of the ultra-thin dendrimer LB films. The electrical properties of the ultra-thin dendrimer LB films were investigated by studying the current-voltage characteristics of metal/dendrimer LB films/metal (MIM) structure. And rectifying behavior of the devices was occurred in applied field.

And one of the most peculiar characteristics of dendritic macromolecules is their controlled molecular structure and orientation, which means that they have a practical application in achieving a highly organized molecular arrangement. We attempted to fabricate a dendrimer LB films containing 48 pyridinepropanol functional end group. As the pyridinepropanol functional group could form a complex structure with metal ions. We investigated the surface activity of dendrimer films at air-water interface compared with pure dendrimer and its complex with $Fe^{2+}$ ions into subphase. We though that metal ions are contributed to networking or branching reaction between dendrimers. And we expected that it can result in the differences on the electrical properties. We have studied the electrical properties of the ultra thin dendrimer LB films investigated by the current-voltage characteristics of metal dendrimer LB films/metal (MIM) structure.

  • We fabricated an IMI-O polymer containing an imidazole group that could form a complex structure between the monolayer and the metal ions at the air-water interface. Also, the surface analysis and the electrical properties of metal ion complex of Langmuir-Blodgett (LB) films were investigated by using $\pi$-A isotherms. Atomoic force microscopy (AFM), current-voltage (I-V) measurements. In the $\pi$-A isotherms the molecular area was expanded with $Fe^{3+}$ concentration increase. It is considered that the expansion of molecular area is due to electrostatic repulsion between the polymer chains and hydrophobic increase of ionic strength. In the I-V characteristics, it is found that the limiting area has effects on the change of conductivity. And, the dielectric relaxation time decreased for increase of the $Fe^{3+}$ concentration.

  • In general residual stress is measured by X-ray diffraction method but in case of bonding residual thermal stress it is inadequate technique to examine the stress singularity. Therefore Two-dimensional elastic boundary element analyses were carried out to investigate the residual thermal stress and stress singularity of bonding interface in Al/Epoxy. This boundary element results were compared with the strain gauge measurements. The effects of different interface models, sub-element and adherend thickness are presented and discussed. On the basis of the obtained results, interface delamination causing by normal stress is expected and stress singularity is observed more intensively increasing with adherend thickness. It is concluded that the bonding strength of Al/Epoxy interface can be estimated correctly by taking into account the stress singularity at the edge of the interface.

  • A rapid, simple and sensitive spectrophotometric method was developed for the determination of cobalt(II) using 2-hydroxy-3-methoxy benzaldehyde thiosemicarbazone (HMBATSC) as a analytical reagent. The metal ion in aqueous medium forms a brown coloured complex with HMBATSC at pH 6.0. The complex has two absorption maxima at 375 nm and 390 nm. At 375 nm, the reagent shows considerable absorbance, while at 390 nm the reagent does not shows appreciable absorbance. Hence, analytical studies were carried out at 390 nm. Beer's law is obeyed in the range of 0.059-2.357 μg ml-1 of Co(II). The molar absorptivity and Sandall's sensitivity of the method are 2.74×104 l mol-1 cm-1 and 0.0024 μg cm-2 respectively. The interference of various diverse ions has been studied. The complex has 1:2 [Co(II)- HMBATSC] stoichiometry. A method for the determination of cobalt(II) by second order derivative spectrophotometry has also been proposed. The proposed methods were applied for the determination of cobalt(II) in alloy steels, vitamin B12 and in some biological samples.

Synthesis of ZnWO4 Nanopowders by Polymerized complex Method (Polymerized complex법에 의한 ZnWO4 nanopower의 제조)

  • ZnWO$_4$ nano-powders were successfully prepared by polymerized complex method using zinc nitrate and tungstic acid as starting materials. In order to investigate the thermal decomposition and crystallization process, the polymeric precursors were heat-treated at temperatures from 300 to 600$^{\circ}$C for 3 h, and the heat-treated powders were characterized by XRD and FTIR. The surface morphology of the heat-treated powders were observed using SEM and TEM. The crystallite size was measured by X-ray analysis. Crystallization of the ZnWO$_4$ powders were detected at 400$^{\circ}$C and entirely completed at a temperature of 600$^{\circ}$C. The particles heat-treated 400 and 500$^{\circ}$C showed primarily co-mixed morphology with spherical and silkworm-like forms, while the particles heat-treated at 600$^{\circ}$C showed more homogeneous morphology. The average crystalline size were 19.9∼24.nm showing an ordinary tendency to increase with the temperatures from 400 to 600$^{\circ}$C.
