Development of gripping force and durability test standard for myoelectric prosthetic hand (근전전동의수의 파지력 및 내구성 시험 표준 개발)

  • Upper limb amputees wear an upper limb prosthesis for both aesthetic purposes and functional necessity, and in particular, in the case of amputee with both hands, it is essential to wear a myoelectric prosthetic hand capable of gripping action. The prosthetic hand operated by the EMG signal of the remaining muscles is a public insurance benefit item of the Industrial Accident Compensation Insurance, and test method standards are needed to be developed for the safety of the user and the effectiveness of the product performance. In this study, we developed systems for measuring the gripping force of myoelectric hand prosthesis by a load cell and for durability test of the prosthesis over repeated use with a proximity sensor, and propose a test method standard. Since the international test method standard has not yet been established, it is expected that Korea will be able to play a leading role in this standardization field in the future.

A study on an instantaneous angular velocity and torque fluctuation for marine diesel engine (선박용 디젤 기관의 순간 각속도와 토크 변동에 관한 연구)

  • The demand for shipboard energy management is expected to gradually increase based on ship energy efficiency management plans (SEEMPs), which have been in use since January 1, 2013. Therefore, the fuel consumption of the main engine, which occupies the greatest portion of the energy used, along with elements related to the engine power, should be strictly monitored. There are many different methods for indicating the engine power. However, this study performed an experiment to monitor the status of a ship's engine power in real time using an encoder and a proximate switch, which are economical to purchase and easy to install. In the experiment, the angular velocity during one cycle of a two-stroke low-speed engine was measured, and the measured data were converted to the torque fluctuation. The angular velocity during an abnormal firing condition in the cylinder was also measured, and the torque fluctuation as a result of a misfire was considered. The results were compared with sea trial data to determine the reliability. In this study, the status of the engine power was determined using the torque fluctuation of the main engine in an operating ship.

A Broadband FIR Beamformer for Underwater Acoustic Communications (수중음향통신을 위한 광대역 FIR 빔형성기)

  • Beamforming for underwater acoustic communication (UAC) is affected by the broadband feature of UAC signal, which has relatively low currier frequency as compared to the signal bandwidth. The narrow-band assumption does not hold good in UAC. In this paper, we discuss a broadband FIR beamformer for UAC using the baseband equivalent way signal model. We consider the broadband FIR beamformer for QPSK UAC with carrier frequency 25kHz and symbol rate 5kHz. Array geometry is a uniform linear way with 8 omni-directional elements and sensor spacing is the half of the carrier wavelength. The simulation results show that the broadband n beamformer achieves nearly optimum signal to interference and noise ratio (SINR) and outperforms the conventional narrowband beamformer by SINR 0.5dB when two-tap FIR filter is employed at each sensor and the inter-tap delay is a quarter of the symbol interval. The broadband FIR beamformer performance is more degraded as the FIR filter length is increased above a certain value. If the inter-tap delay is not greater than half of the symbol period, SINR performance does not depend on the inter-tap delay. More training period is required when the inter-tap delay is same as the symbol period.

Application of Smartphone Camera Calibration for Close-Range Digital Photogrammetry (근접수치사진측량을 위한 스마트폰 카메라 검보정)

  • Recently studies on application development and utilization using sensors and devices embedded in smartphones have flourished at home and abroad. This study aimed to analyze the accuracy of the images of smartphone to determine three-dimension position of close objects prior to the development of photogrammetric system applying smartphone and evaluate the feasibility to use. First of all, camera calibration was conducted on autofocus and infinite focus. Regarding camera calibration distortion model with balance system and unbalance system was used for the decision of lens distortion coefficient, the results of calibration on 16 types of projects showed that all cases were in RMS error by less than 1 mm from bundle adjustment. Also in terms of autofocus and infinite focus on S and S2 model, the pattern of distorted curve was almost the same, so it could be judged that change in distortion pattern according to focus mode is very little. The result comparison according to autofocus and infinite focus and the result comparison according to a software used for multi-image processing showed that all cases were in standard deviation less than ${\pm}3$ mm. It is judged that there is little result difference between focus mode and determination of three-dimension position by distortion model. Lastly the checkpoint performance by total station was fixed as most probable value and the checkpoint performance determined by each project was fixed as observed value to calculate statistics on residual of individual methods. The result showed that all projects had relatively large errors in the direction of Y, the direction of object distance compared to the direction of X and Z. Like above, in terms of accuracy for determination of three-dimension position for a close object, the feasibility to use smartphone camera would be enough.

Mono-Vision Based Satellite Relative Navigation Using Active Contour Method (능동 윤곽 기법을 적용한 단일 영상 기반 인공위성 상대항법)

  • In this paper, monovision based relative navigation for a satellite proximity operation is studied. The chaser satellite only uses one camera sensor to observe the target satellite and conducts image tracking to obtain the target pose information. However, by using only mono-vision, it is hard to get the depth information which is related to the relative distance to the target. In order to resolve the well-known difficulty in computing the depth information with the use of a single camera, the active contour method is adopted for the image tracking process. The active contour method provides the size of target image, which can be utilized to indirectly calculate the relative distance between the chaser and the target. 3D virtual reality is used in order to model the space environment where two satellites make relative motion and produce the virtual camera images. The unscented Kalman filter is used for the chaser satellite to estimate the relative position of the target in the process of glideslope approaching. Closed-loop simulations are conducted to analyze the performance of the relative navigation with the active contour method.

  • In the application development process is an important task to improve the quality of the data is the principal means for achieving the functional requirements of the wireless sensor network applications because it is the data obtained in the real world. It should be possible to meet the requirements for the quality improvement to those detailed for improving the quality in a short period of time for developing a prototype of an application and low cost. However, development of the existing methods can not be satisfied simultaneously in order to use a consistent abstraction because antinomical relation between ability of description and ease of description. In this paper, we propose a meta-data designed to support the improvement of data quality through abstract modeling language is also used in combination to a multiple of the other.

Robust Location Estimation based on TDOA and FDOA using Outlier Detection Algorithm (이상치 검출 알고리즘을 이용한 TDOA와 FDOA 기반 이동 신호원 위치 추정 기법)

  • This paper presents the outlier detection algorithm in the estimation method of a source location and velocity based on two-step weighted least-squares method using time difference of arrival(TDOA) and frequency difference of arrival(FDOA) data. Since the accuracy of the estimated location and velocity of a moving source can be reduced by the outliers of TDOA and FDOA data, it is important to detect and remove the outliers. In this paper, the method to find the minimum inlier data and the method to determine whether TDOA and FDOA data are included in inliers or outliers are presented. The results of numerical simulations show that the accuracy of the estimated location and velocity is improved by removing the outliers of TDOA and FDOA data.

  • This paper deals with the interconnection problem in ad-hoc networks or sensor networks, where relay nodes are deployed additionally to form connections between given nodes. This problem can be reduced to a NP-hard problem. The nodes of the networks, by applications or geographic factors, can be deployed densely in some areas while sparsely in others. For such a case one can make an approximation scheme, which gives shorter execution time, for the additional node deployments by ignoring the interconnections inside the dense area of nodes. However, the case is still a NP-hard, so it is proper to establish a polynomial time approximation scheme (PTAS) by implementing a dynamic programming. The analysis can be made possible by an elaboration on making the definition of the objective function. The objective function should be defined to be able to deal with the requirement incurred by the substitution of the dense area with its abstraction.

  • In this paper to make young children to learn habits of the animals, crying, features, and English and Korean language, The system was developed to target the zoo various animals exist. If young child places a doll on the front of interesting animal, then young child can learn to look through the display connected to the model. The zoo is reducing the current appearance of the zoo, sensors that can recognize animals are attached to each cage. Attached to each sensor has a unique ID, If this approach recognizes a doll baby and will transmit a unique ID to the handler. Transmitted ID search the matched value sent from the database to retrieve the content and then the content is to be output through the output device. Also if the doll near the animal's room, young children find out animal sound and basic learning by multimedia effects. At the same time Korean, English, Mathematics are learned.

Accurate Step-Count Detection based on Recognition of Smartphone Hold Position (스마트폰의 소지위치 인지 기반의 정확한 보행수 검출 기법)

  • As the walking exercise is emphasized in personalized healthcare, numerous services demand walking information. Along with the propagation of smartphones nowadays, many step-counter applications have been released. But these applications are error-prone to abnormal movements such as simple shaking or vibrations; also, different step counts are shown when the phone is positioned in different locations of the body. In this paper, the proposed method accurately counts the steps regardless of the smartphone position by using an accelerometer and a proximity sensor. A threshold is set on each of the six positions to minimize the error of undetection and over-detection, and the cut-off section is set to eliminate any noise. The test results show that the six position type were successfully identified, and through a comparison experiment with the existing application, the proposed technique was verified as superior in terms of accuracy.
