본 연구에서는 무릎 보조도구를 착용하지 않은 상태와 착용한 상태에서 앉았다 일어서기 동작 시의 무릎 근육의 활성도 차이를 비교하여, 착용형 무릎 보조도구가 무릎 뼈관절염을 가진 노인들의 하지 근육의 근 활성도에 미치는 영향을 알아보았다. 그 결과, 무릎 보조도구를 착용하지 않은 상태에 비해 보조도구를 착용한 상태에서 안쪽넓은근과 가쪽넓은근의 근 활성도가 통계적으로 유의하게 감소한 것으로 나타났다. 이를 통해, 무릎 보조도구가 앉았다 일어서기 동작 시 하지 근육을 보조하여 근 활성도를 감소시키는 등 무릎의 뼈관절염을 가진 노인들의 일상생활 보조에 유용할 수 있는 가능성을 확인할 수 있었다.

등산은 누구나 손쉽게 즐기는 국민 스포츠이다. 그러나 생각만큼 간단한 운동은 아니다. 의욕만 앞세우다 자칫 발목이나 무릎 관절에 무리를 줄 수 있으며, 심한 경우 관절이나 관절 주변 조직이 찢어져 수술을 받아야 한다. 관절이나 주변 조직의 부상은 만성 관절염으로 연결되기 쉬우며, 만성 관절염은 노후 인공관절 수술을 받게 되는 가장 큰 원인이 된다. 이번 호에서는 등산으로 인한 근육∙골격계 질환에 대해서는 알아보기로 한다. 이 내용은 동아일보에 게재된 내용을 발췌 정리한 것이다.

To evaluate the treatment outcome after conservative treatment in patients with osteoarthritis of the TMJ(OA), the subjects were chosen among the patients who presented to the Department of Oral Medicine of Pusan National University Hospital, diagnosed as osteoarthritis of the TMJ, and treated with conservative methods from 1994 to 2006. 101 patients with diagnosis of osteoarthritis of the TMJ were selected as the experimental group and 74 patients with diagnosis of masticatory muscle disorders(MMD) were selected as the control group. Subjective symptoms and clinical findings were investigated to evaluate and compare the subject's status at the first and the last visit. The results were as follows : 1. In the OA group, satisfactory treatment outcome was obtained with conservative methods. But, at the last visit, the symptoms of the OA group were not improved enough compared with those of the MMD group. 2. In the OA group, radiographic findings of panorama view and transcranial projection were positive by about 60 percent. But, computed tomography and single photon emission computed tomography were positive by more than 90 percent. 3. At the last visit of the OA group, the joint noise was reduced significantly. 4. In the majority of the OA group, satisfactory treatment outcome was obtained with conservative methods such as medication, physical therapy, and occlusal stabilization appliance. In the majority of the MMD group, satisfactory outcome was obtained with medication and physical therapy. 5. It took the OA group from 6 months to 2 years to be cured well while the MMD group within 6 months.6. The OA group needed more than 10 times' treatment for satisfactory outcome while the MMD group needed less than 10 times' treatment.

Phlegmonous esophagitis is a disorder in which bacterial infection occurs in the submucosal and muscular layers of the esophagus. This malady is very rare and it is usually associated with high mortality. A 69-year-old male was admitted with chest pain and fever he'd experienced for 7 days. The chest computerized tomography scan revealed mediastinal widening, circumferential esophageal thickening, an air shadow along the esophagus and right pleural effusion. Drainage and debridement of the mediastinum and primary repair of the perforated esophageal muscular layer through a right thoracotomy was done immediately. Further surgical treatment was not performed. He had a good oral intake without dysphagia or esophageal leakage at discharge.

This study was carried out to compare the changes in the extractability, biological activity, and solubility of myofibrillar proteins and actomyosins during storage period at 4$^{\circ}C$ and -20$^{\circ}C$in pectoral. and leg muscle of broiler meat. 1. The results obtained are as fellows ; The extractabilities of myofibrillar proteins in pectoral and leg muscle were increased gradually to 7-days during storage at 4$^{\circ}C$ and decreased slightly during frozen storage at -20$^{\circ}C$. The extractabilities of actomyosins in pectoral and legmuscle were not greatly changed during cold storage and decreased gradually during frozen storage. 2. The Ca$\^$2+/-ATP ase activities of myofibrillar proteins in the both muscles were not greatly changed to 7-days during cold storage, and in the case of frozen storage, those were highest on the 2nd week, thereafter decreased with storage period. The Ca$\^$2+/-ATPase activities of actomyosins in pectoral and leg muscle were decreased sightly only frist day during cold storage and decreased gently during frozen storage. 3. Myofibrillar proteins in the both muscles were solubilized completely at 0.20M KCl in fresh meat, at 0.25M (pectoral) and 0.30M KCl (leg) in the cold storage, and at 0.30M KCl in the frozen storage. Actomyosins of both muscles were solubilized completely at 0.40M KCl in fresh meat, cold and frozen storage.

Pyomyositis is a primary bacterial infection of the skeletal muscles. Although infection can affect any skeletal muscle, the large muscle groups such as the quadriceps or gluteal muscles are most often the focus of this disease, and most commonly the inflammation is focal, involving a single muscle. The mechanism of pyomyositis is poorly understood. The local mechanical trauma at the time of an incidental bacteremia is frequently postulated as a mechanism that could explain the high incidence of the disease in tropical areas and its male preponderance. Staphylococcus aureus is the most common organism responsible for pyomyositis. Mycobacterium tuberculosis primarily affects the lungs, and the prevalence of active pulmonary tuberculosis co-existing with musculoskeletal tuberculosis has been about 30 percent. We report here on a case of an otherwise healthy 17-month-old girl, who had tuberculous pyomyositis at the upper arm after the hepatitis A vaccination with no evidence of any coexistent active tuberculosis.

Myopathy in primary aldosteronism is relatively rare disease in Korea. A 42-year-lod woman with hypokalemic periodic paralysis, proximal muscle weakness and hypertension was found to have myopathy associated with adenoma in the right adrenal gland. She showed marked elevation of muscle enzymes and myopathic pattern in EMG.

For decreasing the level of fluoride content in Antarctic krill, the changes of the content in solubel protein from the krill muscle depended on pH, ion species and ionic strength of the extracting solutions were investigated. The content of total fluoride of boiled muscle was higher than that of raw material, and the portions of fluoride with ionic form to the total content were 70% and 49%, respectively. In the effect of pH, fluoride contents of soluble protein from raw and boiled muscle showed the lowest values near 10. The effective ionic strength for decrease of fluoride content was 0.05M as NaCl at pH 11, and the content in the protein from raw material in this conditions was about 8 ppm.
