  • In order to study the occurrence of symptoms of musculoskeletal disorders of radio-technologists employed at metropolitan general hospitals and the factors that influence such occurrence, standardized questionnaire by NIOSH that was modified and supplemented to be suitable for conditions in Korea was used. Answers collected from 143 radio-technologists in two weeks from June 13, 2007 were analyzed and the results are as follows. Factor that influence symptoms of musculoskeletal disorders by area were analyzed through multiple logistic regression analysis and the results found that in the neck area, risk increased as the burdening work category 2(Korea ministry of labor)(OR=3.94) and burdening work category 9(Korea ministry of labor)(OR=4.72) increased. In the shoulder region, risk increased as burdening work category 2(Korea ministry of labor)(OR=5.36), burdening work category 7(Korea ministry of labor)(OR=3.90), and burdening work category 9 (Korea ministry of labor)(OR=5.76) increased. In the arm/hand/wrist regions, risk increased as burdening work category 2 (Korea ministry of labor) (OR=6.91), and burdening work category 9 (Korea ministry of labor)(OR=3.76) increased. In the lower back region, risk increased as burdening work category 2 (Korea ministry of labor) (OR=3.06), and burdening work category 8 (Korea ministry of labor)(OR=8.14) increased. In the leg/knees/foot regions, risk increased as burdening work category 2 (Korea ministry of labor) (OR=3.63), and burdening work category 9 (Korea ministry of labor)(OR=2.96) increased. Conclusively, in factors that influence musculoskeletal disorder symptoms in radio-technologists, influence of subjective health conditions, total work experience, experience in current division, and burdening work category 2, 7, 8, and 9 (Korea ministry of labor) were most significant. Therefore, for preventive management, in addition to ergonomic and educational intervention for correcting improper posture during work, efforts for break time adjustment and stress reduction is needed, and encouragement and support for regular exercise is needed.

  • Recently, WRMSD(Work-Related Musculoskeletal Disorders) related to simple and repetitious works has been become big issue and has been studying actively by many korean researchers. However, it is that the researches has been depended on foreign ones because the basic data in each field is short in Korea. In this study, we tried to search the actual conditions and factors on WRMSD of pressing workers. In addition, we tried to search the actual conditions and factors on WRMSD of pressing workers. In addition we examined how the contents of works and postures of workers affected at the disease. Accordingly, these research data will be used for planning the preventive program on WRMSD effectively and implement its program.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the relationship between health behaviors and musculoskeletal disease in adults. Methods: The data of 7,421 adults applied in this study were collected from health behaviors (smoking, drinking, exercise, weight, sleeping, stress) and related with musculoskeletal disease form 2009 Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey. Date were collected through self-report questionnaires from January to December, 2009. Data were analyzed using chi-square test, Multivariate logistic regression with SPSS/WIN 17.0. Results: The prevalence rate of musculoskeletal disease was 30.6%. In multivariate analyses, the sex, age, BMI, stress and education were statistically strongly associated with most of musculoskeletal disease among adults. Conclusion: The results of this study suggest that musculoskeletal disease prevention and nursing intervention programs should be necessarily established and continuously managed in order to treat with the musculoskeletal disease.

  • Prolotherapy, the technology for strengthening lax ligaments, has found increased acceptance in recent years. Prolotherapy involves the injection of the irritant solutions into the weakened or stretched ligaments which are a source of chronic pain. This induces an inflammatory response which mimics the normal repair sequence. Various musculoskeletal disorders of lower extremities such as degenerative arthrtitis, ligament and tendon injuries can be treated with prolotherapy. Prolotherapy is a very good, powerful nonsurgical conservative treatment in various musculoskeletal disorders. Ultrasound exam is very useful to find and confirm the exact location of disorders and check the progress in prolotherapy practices.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the relationship between the working posture and symptoms of musculoskeletal disorders of dental hygienists during scaling. The subjects in this study were 264 selected dental hygienists. A convergence study was implemented using questionnaire that was prepared to cover general characteristics, health care, the work of scaling, working posture and subjective musculoskeletal symptoms. As for data analysis, R 2.15.1 was employed. As a result of analyzing the collected data, the rate of good working posture during scaling stood at 29.9 percent; roughly good posture, at 37.5 percent; incorrect posture, at 32.6 percent. Regarding the area of the body in which they complained of musculoskeletal symptoms, the shoulders were 3.32-fold more mentioned than any other area(OR,3.32;95%CI, 1.58~6.98); the foot, 2.97-fold more(OR,2.97;95%CI, 1.18~7.48); the hands, 2.84-fold more(OR,2.84:95%CI, 1.35~5.98); the neck, 2.82-fold more(OR, 2.82;95%CI, 1.35~5.91); the back, 2.41-fold more(OR,2.41;95%CI, 1.02~5.68). The findings of the study that demonstrate the importance of good working posture are expected to make a contribution to the improvement of work environments, the development of efficient preventive programs and the preparation of sustained educational plans, and it's necessary in the future to make a research study by including psychosocial factors.
