  • The mechanical hehavior of relIlforced concrete beams with steel fibers is investigated 111 the present study. An expenmental program was set up and several series of rem forced concrete beams have been tested, including two senes of singly-reinforced concrete beams and one senes of doubly-reinforced concrete beams. It was found from th, :se measurements that the crack widths lIlcrease almost llIlearly With the lIlcrease of steel stress and that the crack Widths at the same loadlJ1g stages are greatly reduced as the contents of steel fibers increase. The present study also IJ1chcates that the ductiiIty and the ultJmate resistance are remarkably enhanced due to the addition of steel fibers. A theoretical mex1e1 for the flexural analysis of fiber-reinforced concrete beam which takes into account the effects of fibers JS also proposed.

  • Ten high-strength concrete beam specimens, which have various combinations of different types of flexural reinforcement and short fibers were constructed and tested. Six beams were reinforced with two layers of steel, CFRP, and GFRP bar combinations. The other four beams were reinforced with two layers of single type CFRP and GFRP bars, with steel and synthetic short fibers. An investigation was performed on the influence of the parameters on the load-carrying capacity, post cracking stiffness, cracking pattern, deflection behavior, and ductility. The low post cracking stiffness, large deflection, deep crack propagation, large crack width, and low ductility of FRP bar-reinforced beams were controlled and improved by positioning steel bars in the inner layer of the FRP bar layer. In addition, the addition of fibers increased the first-cracking load, ultimate flexural strength, and ductility as well as the deep propagating cracks were controlled in the FRP bar-reinforced concrete beams. The increased ultimate concrete strain of fiber-reinforced concrete should be determined and considered when FRP bar-reinforced concrete members with fibers are designed.

  • The high strength materials have been more widely used in a large reinforced concrete structures. It is known that the use of high strength material in RC structures give the benefits of the mechanical and durable properties, but the ductility decreases with an increase in the strength of the materials. In the design of a reinforced concrete beam, both the flexural strength and ductility need to be considered. So, it is necessary to assess accurately the ductility of the beam with high strength materials in order to ensure the ductility requirement in design. In this study, the effects of the material strength on the flexural behavior and curvature ductility factor of reinforcement concrete beam sections with various reinforcement conditions have been evaluated and a newly prediction formula for curvature ductility factor of RC beam has been developed considering the stress of compression reinforcement at ultimate state. The proposed predictions for the curvature ductility factor which is applicable to both singly and doubly reinforced concrete beam are verified by comparisons with other prediction formulas and the proposed formula offers fairly accurate within 9% error and consistent predictions for curvature ductility factor of reinforced concrete beam.

  • According to the survey of earthquake disaster, low-rise reinforced concrete building larger by the extent of damage and because of the underlying distribution of reinforced concrete structures more, it is very likely to be disasters. The purpose of this study is to discuss how strength and stiffness of each system in low-rise reinforced concrete buildings consisted of extremely brittle, shear and flexural failure lateral-load resisting systems have influence on seismic capacities of the overall system. Generally, if shear failure members including extremely brittle failure members are failed during an earthquake, the lateral-load resisting seismic capacities of RC buildings are lower rapidly, and if the seismic capacities of shear failure members were higher than that of flexural failure members, failures of shear failure members have influence on failures of the overall system. The result of this paper will provide pseudo-dynamic test of carried out to estimate the possibility of proposals.

  • Traditional external post-tensioning method using either steel bars or tendons is commonly used as a retrofitting method for concrete bridges. However, the external post-tensioning method has some disadvantages such as stress concentration at anchorages and inefficient load carrying capability regarding live loads. Thermal prestressing method is a newly proposed method for strengthening and rehabilitation of concrete girder bridges. Founded on a simple concept of thermal expansion and contraction of steel, the method is a hybrid method of external post-tensioning and steel plate bonding, combining the merits of two methods. In this paper, basic concepts of the method are presented and an illustrative experiment is introduced. From actual experimental data, the thermal prestressing effect is substantiated and the FEM approach for its analysis is verified.

  • In recent years, extreme rainfall and rainy seasons caused by climate change have caused river flooding and flooding damage, and it is urgent to solve economic and environmental problems in the city center due to the increase in the number of peak homes. The gap block, called the fitting block, is designed to facilitate rainwater pitching by forming a gap between the block and the block by forming a concave part and a protrusion of the block differently without the use of an existing spacer. In this study, for the production of such a gap block, the existing cement content was reduced and aramid fibers and exploration fibers, which are industrial by-products such as Goroslag fine powder and reinforcing fibers, were applied.

  • Recently, thermal bridge breaker systems(TBBSs) applicable to RC slab-wall connections have been increasingly studied and proposed. This study also aims at proposing an analytic model which is applicable to predicting the flexural behavior of TBBS embedded in slabs from the initial elastic stages, yield states to ultimate conditions. The analytic models are developed by considering strain compatibility, force equilibrium and the constitutive law obtained from material test results. To verify the accuracy of the proposed analytic model, the moment-curvature relationship and change of neutral axis according to the loading states are compared with those of experimental results. Based on the comparison, it is verified that the proposed analytic model provides well predict the flexural behavior of TBBS embedded in slabs.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the flexural strengthening effectiveness for the beams reinforced with NSM CFRP strips. To accomplish this objective, concrete T beams were made and tested. From this study, it is found that the flexural stiffness and strength of the beams reinforced with NSM strips were significantly improved compared to the beams without CFRP strip. The maximum increase of flexural strength was 247%. Failure of the beam reinforced with NSM was initiated by a part of separation of NSM strips along the longitudinal direction, and the second failure of strips was investigated. After the first rupture of the NSM strips, the load dropped suddenly and the second rupture was succeeded. This result shows that a perfect composite reaction with NSM strips and concrete is possible in the beam reinforced with NSM CFRP strips the NSM strips and Near surface mounted(NSM) is one of the most recent and promising strengthening techniques for reinforced concrete structures.

  • In this study, a non-linear FEM model is presented to predict the static flexural performance of precast bridge decks with ribbed joint and is verified with previous experiment results through comparison. The several theory of material properties were applied to each mechanical properties in FEM model and FEM model's input variables were determined through experiment result and parametric study. The FEM results showed good accuracy in predicting the structural performance of the specimens and FEM model's average error rate was 5%. Also, each specimen's cracking aspect and failure mode can be predicted through FEM's plastic strain distribution. Thus, this FEM model can be used effectively for predicting the ultimate behavior and parametric study to development of design formula for joint.
