Machine learning has a close relationship with cognitive psychology and brain science and is developing together. This paper analyzes the OASIS-3 dataset using machine learning techniques and proposes a model for predicting dementia. Dimensional reduction through PCA (Principal Component Analysis) is performed on the data quantifying the volume of each area among OASIS-3 data, and only important elements (features) are extracted and then various machine learning including gradient boosting and stacking Apply the models and compare the performance of each. Unlike previous studies, the proposed technique has a great differentiation because it uses not only the brain biometric data, but also basic information data such as the participant's gender and medical information data of the participant. In addition, it was shown that the proposed technique through various performance evaluations is a model that can better predict dementia by finding features that are more related to dementia among various numerical data.
This study predicts the average scores of top 150 PGA golf players on 132 PGA Tour tournaments (2013-2015) using data mining techniques and statistical analysis. This study also aims to predict the Top 10 and Top 25 best players in 4 different playoffs. Linear and nonlinear regression methods were used to predict average scores. Stepwise regression, all best subset, LASSO, ridge regression and principal component regression were used for the linear regression method. Tree, bagging, gradient boosting, neural network, random forests and KNN were used for nonlinear regression method. We found that the average score increases as fairway firmness or green height or average maximum wind speed increases. We also found that the average score decreases as the number of one-putts or scrambling variable or longest driving distance increases. All 11 different models have low prediction error when predicting the average scores of PGA Tournaments in 2015 which is not included in the training set. However, the performances of Bagging and Random Forest models are the best among all models and these two models have the highest prediction accuracy when predicting the Top 10 and Top 25 best players in 4 different playoffs.

The diagnostic evaluation conducted at the national level is very important to detect underachievers in school early. This study used an artificial intelligence method to find the characteristics of underachievers that affect learning development for middle school students. In this study an artificial intelligence model was constructed and analyzed to determine whether the Busan Education Longitudinal Data in 2020 by entering data from the first year of middle school in 2019. A predictive model was developed to predict basic middle school Korean, English, and mathematics education with machine learning algorithms, and it was confirmed that the accuracy was 78%, 82%, and 83%, respectively, in the prediction for the next school year. In addition, by drawing an achievement prediction decision tree for each middle school subject we are analyzing the process of prediction. Finally, we examined what characteristics affect achievement prediction.

Darknet is based on the characteristics of anonymity and security, and this leads darknet to be continuously abused for various crimes and illegal activities. Therefore, it is very important to detect and classify darknet traffic to prevent the misuse and abuse of darknet. This work proposes a novel approach, which uses the Gradient Boosting techniques for darknet traffic detection and classification. XGBoost and LightGBM algorithm achieve detection accuracy of 99.99%, and classification accuracy of over 99%, which could get more than 3% higher detection accuracy and over 13% higher classification accuracy, compared to the previous research. In particular, LightGBM algorithm could detect and classify darknet traffic in a way that is superior to XGBoost by reducing the learning time by about 1.6 times and hyperparameter tuning time by more than 10 times.
In this study, we predicted the presence of fog with a one-hour delay using the XGBoost DART machine learning algorithm for Andong, which had the highest occurrence of fog among inland stations from 2016 to 2020. We used six datasets: meteorological data, agricultural observation data, additional derived data, and their expanded data. The weather phenomenon numbers obtained through naked-eye observations and the visibility distances measured by visibility meters were classified as fog [1] or no-fog [0]. We set up twelve machine learning modeling experiments and used data from 2021 for model validation. We mainly evaluated model performance using recall and AUC-ROC, considering the harmful effects of fog on society and local communities. The combination of oversampled meteorological data features and the target induced by weather phenomenon numbers showed the best performance. This result highlights the importance of naked-eye observations in predicting fog using machine learning algorithms.
Algal bloom is an ongoing issue in the management of freshwater systems for drinking water supply, and the chlorophyll-a concentration is commonly used to represent the status of algal bloom. Thus, the prediction of chlorophyll-a concentration is essential for the proper management of water quality. However, the chlorophyll-a concentration is affected by various water quality and environmental factors, so the prediction of its concentration is not an easy task. In recent years, many advanced machine learning algorithms have increasingly been used for the development of surrogate models to prediction the chlorophyll-a concentration in freshwater systems such as rivers or reservoirs. This study used a light gradient boosting machine(LightGBM), a gradient boosting decision tree algorithm, to develop an ensemble machine learning model to predict chlorophyll-a concentration. The field water quality data observed at Daecheong Lake, obtained from the real-time water information system in Korea, were used for the development of the model. The data include temperature, pH, electric conductivity, dissolved oxygen, total organic carbon, total nitrogen, total phosphorus, and chlorophyll-a. First, a LightGBM model was developed to predict the chlorophyll-a concentration by using the other seven items as independent input variables. Second, the time-lagged values of all the input variables were added as input variables to understand the effect of time lag of input variables on model performance. The time lag (i) ranges from 1 to 50 days. The model performance was evaluated using three indices, root mean squared error-observation standard deviation ration (RSR), Nash-Sutcliffe coefficient of efficiency (NSE) and mean absolute error (MAE). The model showed the best performance by adding a dataset with a one-day time lag (i=1) where RSR, NSE, and MAE were 0.359, 0.871 and 1.510, respectively. The improvement of model performance was observed when a dataset with a time lag up of about 15 days (i=15) was added.
As the use of TBM increases, research has recently increased to to analyze TBM data with machine learning techniques to predict the exchange cycle of disc cutters, and predict the advance rate of TBM. In this study, a regression prediction of disc cutte wear of slurry shield TBM site was made by combining machine learning based on the machine data and the geotechnical data obtained during the excavation. The data were divided into 7:3 for training and testing the prediction of disc cutter wear, and the hyper-parameters are optimized by cross-validated grid-search over a parameter grid. As a result, gradient boosting based on the ensemble model showed good performance with a determination coefficient of 0.852 and a root-mean-square-error of 3.111 and especially excellent results in fit times along with learning performance. Based on the results, it is judged that the suitability of the prediction model using data including mechanical data and geotechnical information is high. In addition, research is needed to increase the diversity of ground conditions and the amount of disc cutter data.
