  • The study investigates the effects of the content and using method of chemical admixtures such as superplasticizer and viscosity modifying admixture on the fluidity, bleeding ratio, volumetric change and compressive strength of the grout in order to provide basic data for the development of high-quality grout for prestressed concrete. It appeared that the combination of superplasticizer and viscosity modifying admixture decreased the fluidity of grout with small content of superplasticizer. On the contrary, Grout used more than 0.1% of superplasticizer appeared to have significant effect on the improvement of the fluidity. On the other hand, bleeding of grout reduced according to increasing the content of viscosity modifying admixture. Superplasticizer with less than 0.05% had practically no effect on the reduction of bleeding, whereas superplasticizer with more than 0.1% appear to have significant effect on the reduction of bleeding. Also the combination of superplasticizer with 0.15% and viscosity modifying admixture with 0.15% resulted in satisfactory fluidity accompanied with fair reduction of bleeding and shrinkage of the grout.

  • With increasing underwater structure construction, there is high interest in offshore foundation and underwater grout and various study has been done in this area. For grout materials constructed underwater, it may be washed away by water or easily disturbed and material separation phenomenon during curing period always happens. As a result, it is difficult to ensure construction quality and this has a significant influence on the design strength of structure. In this study, to understand application effects of anti-washout admixture for the preplaced construction method, where grout is injected in monopile after filled with aggregates, laboratory tests on bleeding and compressive strength of anti-washout admixture were performed under various test conditions varying size of aggregate, water and cement ratio and admixture, and test results were compared and evaluated.

  • In this study, environmental problems(i.e., pH elevation and $Cr^{6+}$ detection) occurred by using the cement grout made from CA(calcium aluminate) were evaluated using viscosity agents(MC, chelate polymer). Ordinary portland cement and blaste-furnace slag cement were used by main materials and ACC(blended mixture of calcium aluminate) were used by accelerator for hardening of grout. In addition, viscosity agents were used for preventing pH elevation and heavy metal detection from grouting materials. From the results, it was noted that when chelate polymer was used, pH elevation and $Cr^{6+}$ detection were minimized. However, other cases showed higher pH elevation and $Cr^{6+}$ detection. At test 1 day, $Cr^{6+}$ detection with age presented over 97% of total value and, after that, additional increase was not distinct. As a result of this study, it was acknowledged that, to control pH elevation and heavy-metal (like $Cr^{6+}$) detection, the usage of BSC and chelate polymer is a very useful fact.

  • In order to analyze the shear strength characteristics of the grout with sudden gelation in the pre-hardening state, the viscosity of the mixture and the indoor vane shear test were performed. The grout was prepared according to the water-cement (w/c) ratio and the shear strength test was conducted. The plastic-state shear strength of grout was affected by the w/c ratio, so the lower the w/c ratio, the higher the initial shear strength was, and the longer the curing time was, the higher the shear strength was. The maximum shear strength occurred at the faster rotation angle as the higher shear strength was developed, and the lower shear strength occurred at the larger rotation angle. In addition, it was confirmed that the pre-hardening grout rapidly decreased in strength after the maximum shear strength was gained, and converged at a certain level after the rotation angle of the vane blade was about 70° to 90°.

  • Objective of this study was to examine the effects of grouts and temperature change on microorganisms in geothermal heat pump. Groundwater samples were obtained from wells in the heat pump system during installation (Oriental medicine hospital) and in the heat pump system under operation (Business incubation center). Grouts are the volclay sodium bentonite. Real-time PCR was used to evaluate total bacterial number and 16S rDNA. The results showed that total bacterial number of groundwater in the heat pump operation was greater than that of non-operation case, which indicates a temperature effect on the bacterial culture. In addition, high concentration of grout showed an elevated bacteria number. In the mean time, a long-term field monitoring is essentially required to confirm the effects of the grouts and the temperature changes.

  • The grouting method is utilized to reinforce and waterproof poor grounds, enhance the bearing capacity of geo-structures damaged from differential settlement. The purpose of this research is to improve the compressive strength and degree of grout using reinforcing fibers and blast furnace slag powder. In this regard, this study has conducted uniaxial compression tests for the specimens with high ratios (higher than 50%) of blast furnace slag powder. The carbon fiber content was increased by 0, 0.5, and 1.0% to coMpare its compressive strength with that of aramid fiber. The uniaxial compressive strength increased with the increase of fiber content and the bridging activity by fiber in cement tended to increase uniaxial compressive strength. Based on the results, it was confirmed that the aramid fiber has a gel time of 14 seconds and the uniaxial compressive strength is more than 3 Mpa coMpared to carbon fiber.

  • In this paper, through experimental research, the period when rock bolts exert support effects is presented as grout strength and through numerical analysis, the rock bolt pull-out behavior according to ground conditions and strength reduction factors is analyzed. As a result, it is determined that rock bolts exhibit their reinforcing effect at a grout strength of 5 MPa (cured for 18 hours). The influence of the boundary interface strength reduction factor was found to be significant for rock bolt displacement in weak ground conditions, for shear stress between grout and ground in highly elastic ground conditions, and for grout stress in all ground conditions. These findings are expected to contribute to the establishment of specific standards for rock bolt testing and numerical analysis, and to facilitate improved design and implementation of rock bolt reinforcement.

  • This study presents an experimental investigation into the performance of self-sensing grout formulated with a high volume of ultra-fine fly ash(UHFA). To explore the potential benefits of alternative cementitious materials, the research examined the effect of substituting UHFA with equal parts of blast furnace slag(BFS) fine powder. Both UHFA and BFS are byproducts generated in significant quantities by industrial processes. The evaluation focused on the fresh properties of the grout, including its flow characteristics, as well as the hardened properties such as compressive strength, dimensional stability(length change rate), and electrical properties. The experimental results demonstrated that incorporating UHFA resulted in a substantial reduction in the plastic viscosity of the grout, translating to improved flowability. Additionally, the compressive strength of the UHFA-modified grout surpassed that of the reference grout(without UHFA substitution) at all curing ages investigated. Interestingly, the electrical characteristics, as indicated by the relationships between FCR-stress and FCR-strain, exhibited similar trends for both grout mixtures.

  • Performance of ground-source heat pumps (GSHPs) is mainly affected by ground heat exchangers which makes up more than 40% of construction cost. Exact construction and grout as backfill are important, because it is difficult to repair after being installed. As grout materials, bentonite grout material and cement material are used In this paper, thermal conductivity according to mix proportion of cement grout has been experimentally studied. Some variables were set to evaluate thermal conductivities according to change in cement content, unit water ratio, mass per volume of fresh mortar, and aggregate types. From the experimental analysis, high performance cement grout has been proposed.

  • Considering the actual marine environment construction, this paper monitors the mechanical properties (Flexural, Compressive strength) by exposing alumina cement to seawater. As a result of the experiment, it was confirmed that the strength decreases by about -25% when curing in seawater, but the target strength of the product is met, so it is believed that exposure to the actual marine environment will not be significantly affected.
