The Establishment Story of 1989 NCTM Curriculum and Evaluation Standards for School Mathematics: based on the perspective of history of U.S. Mathematics Education in the 1970s and 1980s (1970-80년대 미국의 수학교육 연구동향 및 활동에 기초한 1989년 미국 NCTM 규준집 편찬 역사에 대하여)

  • This paper provides a review of the historical development story of the NCTM 1989 Standards based on perspective of history of U. S. mathematics education and research in the 1970s and 1980s. In contrast to other nations, the U. S. has always favored local over national control of education. But by 1983, mounting evidence of failures of U. S. education moved the authors of A Nation at Risk to recommend strengthened requirements, rigorous Standards, and higher expectations for all students. In response to A Nation at Risk, the NCTM began to develop the nation's first educational Standards. This paper satisfies the readers who desire to know the entire development story of the first Standards.

  • 세계적인 막구조물의 현황들은 그 특유의 조형성과 구조적 특성으로 인하여 사용범위가 점차적으로 증가하고 있는 실정이다. 가까운 일본에서는 막구조물의 사용이 보편화되고 있으며 독일과 같은 나라에서는 막구조물의 가설물의 개념이 아닌 항구적인 건축물로써 취급되고 있는 실정이다. 금번 우리나라에서도 대전 EXPO '93을 통하여 막구조물에 대한 관심이 점차 증가하고 있으나, 몇몇 관심있는 사람들을 제외하고는 정보를 얻을 수 있는 자료조차도 거의 찾아보기 힘든 실정이며, 이러한 구조물에 대한 이해가 상당히 부족한 것 또한 사실이다. 따라서 명진기술연구소에서는 보다 많은 사람들의 막구조물에 대한 새로운 인식을 위하여 IASS(International Association for Shell and Spatial Structures)의 서스펜션 구조 및 공기막구조의 소위원회가 발간한 규준집의 본문(규준A)을 소개하고자 한다.

미국 Common Core State Standards for Mathematics 소개

  • The purpose of this study is to introduce the Common Core State Standards (CCSS) for mathematics which is released on June 2, 2010 in the U.S.A. The common core state standards are aligned with college and work expectations, and include rigorous content and application of knowledge through high-order skills. The most distinguishable differences between the CCSS standards and the NCTM standards are that the CCSS standards considers the mathematical modeling as one of the mathematical content domains such as algebra, geometry, ets, and the standards are designed by working together with school leaders of all states.

  • The objective of this paper is to investigate the structural behavior of concrete filled steel tubular columns subjected to eccentric load. With experiment and analytical study, the buckling behavior of columns is investigated and compared with each other to the view of main parameters. Appling foreign standards in the experimental results, we suggested new strength formula of concrete-filled steel tubular columns. The parameters are slenderness, eccentric ratio, and concrete filled or not. The experiment are carried out by simple loading.

  • In relation to concentrically loaded compression, this research is to describe, analyze, and evaluate the design strength in steel stud. The similarity and difference among load and resistance factor design specification for cold-formed steel structural members (AISI), cold-formed thin gauge members and sheeting (EC3 part 1.3), and German draft (DASt-Richtlinie 016) are introduced, discussed, and systematically evaluated. Especially, the effective width and global instability problems (flexural buckling and torsional flexural buckling) are here implied in this research. The design axial strength by dual standards (AISI and EC3) is calculated and compared using the example.
