Combined Foliar Spray of Boron, Calcium, and Silicon can Influence Quality and Shelf Life of Cherry Tomato in Modified Atmosphere Packaging (붕소, 칼슘, 규소의 복합 엽면시비가 방울토마토의 품질과 MAP 조건에서 저장성에 미치는 영향)

  • This study was analyzed the effects of boron (B), calcium (Ca), silicon (Si) on quality and shelf life of 'Unicorn' cherry tomato at the light red maturity-stage. The storage conditions were modified atmosphere packaging (MAP) by oxygen transmission rate (OTR) packaging film at $5^{\circ}C$, $11^{\circ}C$, and $24^{\circ}C$. Respiration and ethylene production were the lowest in B + Ca + Si -treated tomato fruits. The lowest fresh weight loss and the longest shelf life resulted from the B + Ca + Si treatment. And the firmness was enhanced by B + Ca + Si treatment at harvest time, and it was retained after storage at $5^{\circ}C$, $11^{\circ}C$, and $24^{\circ}C$. Significantly lower soluble solids, lycopene, and color development were found at B + Ca + Si-treated tomato fruits compared with control after storage. Moreover, the highest titratable acidity and vitamin C content were observed in B + Ca + Si-treated tomato fruits after storage. From the above results, it was concluded that B + Ca + Si combined treatment can delay the maturity of cherry tomato after harvesting, and retained the firmness and prolong the shelf life.

Analytical Method to Quantify Sodium Metasilicate in Shark Fins (샥스핀 가공 중 사용된 메타규산나트륨 분석)

  • According to the Korea Food Additives Code, sodium metasilicate is permitted for use as a filtering agent for edible oils and fats. Sodium metasilicate is currently used as a food additives to increase the weight of shark fins. In this study, we developed an analytical method to quantify sodium metasilicate in food. Sodium metasilicate content was estimated by measuring the moisture content, pH and silicon content of shark fins. Silicon content was analyzed using inductively coupled plasma-optical emission spectrometry (ICP-OES) following microwave-assisted digestion with $HNO_3$ (65%) and $H_2O_2$ (30%). Shark fin total silicon content was $7.17{\pm}8.92mg/kg$, while the soluble silicon content was $2.34{\pm}3.80mg/kg$. After soaking raw shark fin in an aqueous solution of sodium metasilicate, fin weight, pH and silicon content were measured. These results would be used as the basic information for shark fins safety management.

Mechanical and tribological characterization of $Si_{3}N_{4}-ZrO_{2}$ composites (질화규소-지르코니아 복합체의 기계적 및 내마모 특성)

  • In this study, the effects of the content of $ZrO_{2}$ in $Si_{3}N_{4}$ on mechanical and wear properties were investigated. $Si_{3}N_{4}$ based composites containing 0~40 wt% $ZrO_{2}$ powders were fabricated using hot isostatic pressing (HIP), at $1750^{\circ}C$, 172 MPa for 1 hour in $N_{2}$ gas. Mechanical properties and wear properties of composites were examined. Mechanical properties (hardness, strength, and fracture toughness) of $Si_{3}N_{4}-ZrO_{2}$ composite were decreased with increasing the amount of $ZrO_{2}$, but relative density of composites were increased. Further, the increase in amount of $ZrO_{2}$, reduced wear rates in air. It was found that wear behaviors in air were related to microcracking.

  • A new catalyst system composed of a main catalyst(copper chloride) and promotors of zinc chloride, tin, and cadminum showed excellent performances in the MCS synthesis from silicon and methylchloride. The mixture of catalyst/silicon(5/95), Zn/Cu=0.1, Sn/Cu=0.001, and Cd/Cu=0.001 was mixed in a slurry phase and activated into the contact mass, then it was used for MCS synthesis. The average selectivity was 92% at the silicon consumption of 92% and reaction rate was 175(g-MCS/hr.kg-silicon) at conversion of silicon.

  • Syntheses and property analysis of hydropolysilanes were studied. Those hydropolysilanes can be utilized as precursors for amorphous silicon and polycrystallline silicon for the purpose of the solar cell and the thin film transister for the next generation's semiconductors. Most important characteristics of this study are to find optimized conditions for the synthesis and property analysis of soluble hydropolysilanes. Also the possibility of pyrolytic conversion to amorphous and polycrystalline silicon was investigated.

Effect of mechanical damage on the crystallization of amorphous silicon thin film (기계적 손상이 비정질 규소박막의 결정화에 미치는 영향)

  • Crystallization of the amorphous silicon needs activation. Thermal energy through laser annealing, furnace annealing and rapid thermal process (RTP) has been convinced to crystallize the amorphous silicon thin film. It is expected that some other type of energy like mechanical energy can help to crystallize the amorphous silicon thin film. In this study, mechanical energy through wet blasting of silica slurry and silicon ion implantation has been applied to the amorphous silicon thin film deposited with LPCVD technique. RTP was employed for the annealing of this mechanically-damaged amorphous silicon thin film. For the characterization of the crystallized silicon thin film, XRD and Raman analysis were conducted. In this study, it is shown that the mechanical damage is effective to enhance the crystallization of amorphous silicon thin film.

  • After the addition of yttrium aluminum garnet of 2, 5, 10 mol% as a sintering aid, $\alpha$-silicon carbides were prepared by a liquid-phase sintering at $1850^{\circ}C$, and the microstructural evolution was investigated during sintering as functions of liquid-phase amount and sintering time. The highest apparent density in each compositions was obtained in specimens sintered for 2 h, and the percentage of weight loss increased with sintering time. By increasing the amount of sintering aid (yttrium aluminum garnet), the rate of grain growth during sintering decreased, but the apparent density of sintered body increased. The phase transformation from 6H-SiC to 4H-SiC was partially observed in specimens sintered for a long time, and so, a few rod-like grains were observed.

The Trial Manufacture of the Grain-Oriented Ultra-Thin Silicon Steel Ribbon using Hot-Rolled Plate (열연판을 사용한 방향성 박규소강대의 제작)

  • We investigated to DC magnetic characteristics, the dependence of annealing temperature on the crystal grain and the crystalline orientation for grain-oriented silicon ribbon with 100 $\mu\textrm{m}$ final thickness manufactured by three times cold rolling method using the hot-rolled silicon steel plate as a raw material. The growth of (110)[001] Goss texture were almost observed in the whole area of the sample. The values of the saturation magnetic flux density B$\sub$s/ and the average ${\alpha}$ angle have 1.9 T and 4.6 degrees respectively. From this result we could be confirmed that the three times cold rolling method has a possibility of manufacture for oriented ultra-thin silicon ribbons much more simple and cheeper than the existing oriented silicon steel manufacturing method by means of more simplified producing process.

  • 무방향성 규소강판을 lamination core 형태로 제작하여 자기적 특성을 조사 하였다. 그 결과 1차, 2차 권선수가 400turns 시료에서 보자력(Hc)과 포화자속밀도(Bs)는 최대값을 나타내었고, 보자력은 0.05Oe, 포화자속밀도는 1.8T 이었다. 현재 국내에서 생산되고 있는 무방향성 규소강판의 자속밀도값 보다 더 우수한 강을 나타내었으며, 열화특성이 자기적 특성에 미치는 영향을 통해 고효율 무방항성 규소강판 개발의 가능성을 확인하였다.

  • 방향성 규소강판을 tape-wound core 형태로 제작하여 $N_2$ gas 분위기에서 $760^{\circ}C$ 4 시간동안 열처리후 자기적 특성을 조사 하였다. 그 결과 1차, 2차 권선수가 85 turns 시료에서 보자력(Hc)과 포화자속밀도(Bs)는 최대값을 나타내었고, 보자력은 0.019Oe, 포화자속밀도는 1.92T 이었다. 현재 국내에서 생산되고 있는 방향성 규소강판의 자속밀도값 보다 더 우수한 값을 나타내었으며, 열화특성이 자기적 특성에 미치는 영향을 통해 고효율 방향성 규소강판 개발의 가능성을 확인하였다.
