  • Storage Class Memory (SCM) has both characteristics of non-volatility and random byte addressability. The advent of SCM can bring about novel and innovative features that are not possible in con ventional computing systems. This paper suggests a new system design that turns on/off a system instantly. To do this, we replace the main memory with SCM to retain the volatile system states as the system is turned off. We implement our prototype in an embedded environment and measure its system on/off time.

  • This study was to examine the generative process, contents and normative practice of social workers practice knowledge and grope the suggestion for the reconstruction of social work knowledge. The authors approched with reflective narrative method, Data were collected from six social workers who have engaged in social work. As result, when they have confronted unaccountable phenomenon they generated knowledge through self - reflection and these confirmed, reproduced through normative practice. The researchers proposed the abduction resoning form for the knowledge development method in social work practice field, the reinforcement of human studies in social workers educational process, reconstruction of the network practice.

  • One of the major activities in scientific inquiry, as well as in the process of conceptual change, is the generation of scientific hypothesis. In this study, the definition and the characteristics of scientific hypothesis are analyzed. Especially, differences between explanatory hypothesis and scientific explanation, predictive hypothesis and scientific prediction, and scientific hypothesis and the inductive generalization are analyzed. And the process of making scientific hypothesis is suggested as 4 stages, and the role and the characteristic of the abductive thinking, which can be viewed as one of the scientific inferences needed to generate hypothesis, are discussed. In analysis, concrete examples from integrated science textbook of high school are used for application to the classroom teaching.

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze elementary students' perception on science classes using abductive strategies. The participants were composed of 21 students(10 boys, 11 girls) from K Elementary School in Busan Metropolitan City. They were asked for questionnaires developed by researchers after 20 times of reframed science lessons using abductive strategies. The results were as follows. First, the science classes using abductive strategies were effective to improve students' interest(ave.=4.19) on science. Second, the analysis results on questionnaires asking utility of the classes showed the students' positive reactions to science lessons using abductive strategies. It was thought that the classes had a positive effect on all components of utility, i.e., overall science(4.48), generating hypothesis(4.19), conceptual understanding(4.19), and meta-cognition(3.76). Third, students perceived positively improvement on the science classes. The components of improvement, i.e., creativity(4.19), concentration(4.29), transfer(3.76), comprehension(4.29) were perceived positively by students. Fourth, students' satisfaction on the sciences classes showed ave.=3.71. Last, students expressed satisfaction on the science classes using abductive strategies and experienced a change of thinking about attitude toward science.

  • Objectives : In this paper, characteristics of research methodology used in the field of Korean Medical Classics and its application was studied, with a focus on abductive reasoning that takes place in such methodology. Methods : First, the properties of the Korean Medical knowledge system, production, circulation and consumption of Korean Medical knowledge, methodology of knowledge production, reasoning of hypothesis, Medical Classics research methodology and its examples were examined. Afterwards, the relationship between Medical Classics research and Korean Medical Doctors's competence was studied. Results : The knowledge system of Korean Medicine, formed by a knowledge production group changes continuously not unlike a living organism. Knowledge is produced through Sang (象) within human consciousness that lies in an existential relationship between the knowledge producer and subject, through means of abductive reasoning. Conclusions : Creative knowledge production through abductive reasoning in the field of Korean Medical Classics will hopefully contribute to production of highly useful knowledge in clinical settings, complement and make change in the current Korean Medical knowledge system. Various teaching methods based on this research methodology will contribute to strengthening Korean Medical Doctors's competence as well.

  • The Philippines in 2016 showed the highest GDP growth rate among Southeast Asian countries, in spite of domestic and international turbulence caused by the war on drugs and unexpected foreign policies after Duterte's presidency. The social contexts and political dynamics behind 'Duterte phenomenon' have raised key questions and issues to other countries including Korea, as to democracy and politics in current neoliberal challenges. The Philippines' choices for independent foreign policy and challenges against existing hegemony would continue to draw attention, particularly on whether this would end in an experiment of a country or initiate an alternative power block among neighboring countries and ASEAN communities.

  • The purpose of this research is to propose a program for teaching and learning effective problem-solving for gifted students based on abductive inference. The role of abductive inference is important for scientific discoveries and creative inferences in problem-solving processes. The characteristics of creativity and abductive inference were investigated, and the following were discussed: (a) a suggestion for a new program based on abductive inference for creative outcomes, this program largely consists of two phases: generative hypotheses and confirmative hypotheses, (b) a survey of the validity of a program. It is typical that hypotheses are confirmed in phases through experiments based on hypothetic deductive methodology. However, because generative hypotheses of this hypothetic deductive methodology are not manifest, we maintained that abductive inference strategies must be used in a Creative Teaching-learning Program for gifted science students.

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze science-gifted students' knowledge-generation processes by analyzing students' inquiry journal. As a result, first, science-gifted students showed various knowledge-generation processes, but they were limited to inductive thinking and abductive thinking, and their thinking processes were very simple. Second, most of the knowledge-generation processes of science gifted were simple, repetitive and diagrammatic processes because of observation and empirical situation of a limited scope. And a simple and repetitive diagram was generated by a simple variable selection and design, observation in limited scope, unbiased intervention by subjective thinking, and absence of exploration or finding errors. And they showed often a logical leap of reasoning.

  • Creativity is always important in science gifted education. There are many research results about enhancing the creativity. One of the ways of enhancing students scientific' creativity is to let them think and research like scientists so that they can follow how scientists find problems and solve them. So in this study, scientific creative elements were extracted from the Pauling's detailed examples of research process by using many documents. Abductive reasoning, paradox, changing the perspective, modeling, simplifying, converging thinking, diverging thinking, and metaphorical thinking are thinking methods that were extracted from the Pauling's research process. Repeated experiment, co-experiment, using both theories and experiments, and social obligation as a scientist are research methods. Scientific creative elements that were extracted suggest some direction that have more scientific creativity, more ability to find problems, and more ability to form theories in science education or in science gifted education.

  • As with cities, all components of a campus must be carefully calibrated to provide the facilities, services like energy, water, electricity, information and communication; classrooms, libraries and laboratories for working; transportation networks and systems for movement of persons, goods, and services; athletic and other facilities for health and competition; places to eat, recreate and socialize; places to display and store works of arts; spaces for the performing arts' spaces for active assembly or solitary pondering. The goal of this study is how to observe the campus planning and development as a part in the context of the community. This study was taken into account neighborhood concerns and Harvard design guidelines. As an observer for the university's northern campus edge, this study suggests in the context of a long and sometimes turbulent history of dialogue and negotiations between Harvard University and first host community, Agassiz which is one of Cambridge's thirteen neighborhoods.
