  • In parallel with advancement of the industrial society and accompanied quality-of-life improvement, jewelry is now rather viewed as one of common accessories used in daily life, than as a luxurious item as treated before change of perception about it in the past, attracting thus gradually multiplying demand for it. Thanks to rapid spread of multi media like the Internet, an increasing number of people have come to develop great liking for exceptional design and unique format of jewelry products. Following drain of their reserves, natural gems are unlikely to meet the demand for them fully in the future. As a consequence, it seems essential to rely on synthetic, artificial, imitation jewelry or organic substances and quasi-mineral in amorphous structure for substitute jewelry. Since synthetic jewelry has such a great potential as substitute jewelry, it is expected to maximize added value to jewelry if and when accompanied with development of creative design and upgrading of processing technology for jewelry, in addition to various types of synthetic jewelry and glass that have been already put in use as substitute substances. Synthetic jewelry is thus believed to be able to greatly contribute to progress of the jewelry industry. In many countries of the world, jewelry and gem industry has been regarded as one of promising sectors vital in enriching the national wealth. In this context, the Korean Ministry of Finance and Economy announced in July 2007 "an activating policy for the jewelry and gem industry, declaring to cultivate and grow it to be new engine for the nation's growth". The present paper thus aims to conduct a study exclusively on cutting design of synthetic jewelry as a part of measures to activate the jewelry industry in Korea. Efforts are made to develop designs for jewelry that are unique and different from the conventional stereotyped form of polishing and are added with color, pattern and fashionable cutting. Priority is given in this regard to designing jewelry that may attract general public and may be shared by public beyond the limit of conventional design for jewelry and producing products that stand in contrast with other products. By upgrading the quality of jewelry design, competitiveness of the jewelry industry may be ensured and the creative area of jewelry design may be expanded by far.

  • 귀금속 보석 분야의 업무 전산화 이전에는 원시적인 기입식 장부정리로 비효율적인 상품관리와 인적 자원낭비가 심하였다. 그러나 최근 많은 업체들이 전자적인 문서관리 시스템 도입으로 업무능력 향상과 비용절감 효과로 업체의 경쟁력이 높아지고 있다. 이에 따라 기존 텍스트 기반 정보에서 벗어나 멀티미디어 기반의 정보를 요구하고 있으며, 상품 정보의 전자카탈로그(E-Catalog) 시스템 도입으로 실시간 상품 이미지와 정보를 제공해 판매자와 고객 간의 신뢰할 수 있는 정보 제공과 모바일(Mobile)통신의 장점인 이동성, 편재성, 실시간성, 휴대성 등을 활용한 기술개발 및 상품화가 요구되고 있다. 본 논문에서는 모바일 기술을 활용하여 휴대용 단말 장치를 이용한 귀금속 보석분야의 이동성이 보장되는 휴대용 B2B 시스템을 구측하였다.

A Study of the History of Domestic Precious Metal and Gems Market from Liberation to 1960s (광복~1960년대 국내 귀금속보석 산업사 연구)

  • The purpose of this study is to examine the evolution of precious metal and gem stores, and to derive the characteristics of this period from the government, industry, and consumers. Correspondingly, the contents of daily newspaper articles during this period were analyzed using Naver's news library search engine. The historical development process is as follows. Before the Korean War, precious metal jewelers operated in Jongno, Namdaemun, and Chungmuro, dealing with gold, silver, and platinum. Large stores not only sold jewelry and watches, but also functioned as craftsmen and watch repairers. After the war, a shopping district for precious metals and jewelry was formed around Midopa Department Store. By 1963, the number of jewelry stores in Seoul increased to about 130 and to about 280 by 1966. The characteristics of the government, industry, and consumers are as follows. The government continued to implement a policy to regulate the precious metal and jewelry industry. Despite challenges, the industry exhibited the potential for foreign currency acquisition and growth through domestic amethyst. Consumers could access information regarding precious metal jewelry in daily newspapers. In the late 1960s, various types of jewelry were distributed in line with an increase in income levels.

  • This study is to propose a alternative gem that is expressed in various ways instead of jewelry with limited output. It was investigated what materials were used in the alternative gem used in the jewelry design thesis over the past five years. In addition, as a result of a survey to understand the needs of customers, it was found that customers also use resin among resins as an alternative gem, like as research trends. Based on this, the scope of resin use as a alternative gem was expanded and applied to jewelry design rather than the existing method of using resin. As a result, it was found out a various uses of resin as an alternative gem. However, the demand and traditionality that correspond to the conditions of jewelry remain challenges to be established through various jewelry design studies in the future. Therefore, in order to utilize the popular preference of alternative gem, continuous research on applying jewelry design to alternative gem should be continued.

  • The accessories growth according to the changes in each era and of course, jewelry processing technology has also improved, but in modern times, the frequency of use of jewelry has decreased, and it has been neglected compared to crafting and metal-related technologies. The beauty of crafted jewelry still remains, there are many problems to cover many age groups due to valuable and design problems. Accordingly, this researcher intends to conduct research to inform the formative beauty and value of processed jewelry. Jewelry designby mainly applying lines during the shaping of the jewelry cutting surface. Prior to the design, a theoretical approach to the design case and jewelry processing literature, and based on this, jewelry design applied in the form of jewelry cutting. This study is expected to promote the vitalization of jewelry research, which is currently marginalized in the field of precious metals, and to develop a number of designs using jewelry.

  • This study, one of the projects for investigation of the precious metal deposits of the Circum-Pacific Ocean coon-tries, was performed in a gem field of Pailling, Cambodia, in which there are numbers of undeveloped mineral resources. The gem fields in the Pailling area are typically distributed in the laterite, lying on of weathered basalts. The gem grade of corundum is low in the surface soil horizon(less than 1 m in depth), but is higher in the subsurface. Occurrence and genetic environment of the precious stone are not concerned in the soils. A Precious stone that is already made from at the least upper part of volcanic rocks is produced in large quantities to undergoing to weathering of the rocks. A precious stone is made from upper part of the formation under the high temperature when volcano is vomiting or after vomiting. and/or made from between the formation under the high temperature when other volcano is vomiting. Volcanic rocks including precious stone are a little different from other volcanic rocks when volcano is vomiting, but chemical composition of rocks is not far different from other volcanic rocks.

  • This research is to develop product retrieval system through simplified communication by applying intelligent agent technology based on automatically created domain ontology to present solution on problems with e-commerce system which searches in the web documents with a simple keyword. Ontology development extracts representative term based on classification information of international product classification code(UNSPSC) and jewelry websites that is applied to analogy relationship thesaurus to establish standardized ontology. The intelligent agent technology is applied to retrieval stage to support efficiency of information collection for users by designing and developing e-commerce system supported with semantic web. Moreover, it designs user profile to personalized search environment and provide personalized retrieval agent and retrieval environment with inference function to make available with fast information collection and accurate information search.

  • Date of Bureau of Statistics, including those of Bank of Korea and KDI, in 1995 indicates a market scale of approximately ₩2,800,000,000 in jewelry and personal ornaments, witch points out an average growth rate of 15.3% a year for ten years from 1986 up to 1995, representing a occupancy ratio of 0.78% per G.N.P. Despite the fact that the jewelry and personal ornaments industry has the possibility of high growth it raises problems such as illegal transactions, distortion of quality grades of jewelry (price deference by appraising agencies in Diamond, fabrications of quality in Gold). Furthermore, the personal ornaments market may be said to be still at an early state, as compared with that of advanced countries, including the USA and Japan, due to the small scale of the industry's distribution firms. Accordingly, in order for us to develop the jewelry and personal ornaments industry, one of the value added projects, an improvement in the distribution system of the jewelry and personal ornaments industry. Development of techniques of production and new design, ect, are required. Futhermore, the industry is expected to develop when its importance and contribution to the national economy, a correct understanding of the long-term vision of the industry are expended to all the industries.

  • In Italy, numerous jewelry ornaments have been actively manufactured from long time ago, since Italian has been highly interested in jewelry from the ancient limes, therefor jewelry industry of Italy has been improved at an alarming pace with latest cutting-edge technology through their highly-talented artistic sense and workmanship of precious metals that have been inherited without any interruption based on the traditional history and culture. One out of five ornaments in the whole world is made in Italy, so Italy is the biggest maker to manufacture ornament made of gold, silver and precious stone recording more than 70 billion dollar of annual sales. The diversified composite factors-handmade oriented ornaments with artistic concept based on their inherited craftsmanship from generation to generation and refinedly and sensationally harmonized design -have resulted in development and mass manufacturing for ornaments. Now days the jewelry maker of Italy have actively introduced improved management know-how and international approach for marketing and made a strenuous effort to newly technology and creative design through close relationship with designers.
