Sagehood - An Interconnectivity of Confucianism and Mythology (유가 사상과 신화적 사유의 상호 관계성 연구 - 성인 관념을 중심으로 -)

  • This study examines the ways in which Confucianism developed in connection with other thoughts. Mythology especially had an great impact on the formation of Confucian thoughts. This study focuses on the concept of sage and examines how Confucianism and mythological thoughts influenced on formation and reformation of the concepts. In ancient religion, sages as a hierophantic figure, mediates human beings and gods, delivering the gods' messages to the human and the human's wishes to the gods. The fused role of shaman and ruler began to separate. A new type of leader without political power, but with a religious role with a moral authority is the Confucian concept of sage. A sage in Confucianism is an ideal person like Confucius, Mencius, and Xunzi, an ordinary person can attain with effort. Anyone can become a sage in Confucianism. The early Confucian sage was more like a hyper-human with unaccessible authority in mythology. Later, a sage in Confucianism began to be described as a model figure that any human being can become. The aspect of shamans and diviners (wushi 巫師) did not disappear, but merged into a kingly power and transformed into a sage-king with moral authority. The new images are reflected in Confucian ideology of statehood or its religiosity. This study has explored the ways in which Confucianism and mythological thoughts interacted and influenced to each other through a concept of sage as an ideal personhood.

  • 최근 우리는 인접학문 간 그리고 학계와 산업계 간의 연구협조가 점차 증가하고 있음을 보아오고 있다. 이러한 현상은 특히 학술저널 간 지식의존성을 촉진하는 계기를 제공하고 있다고 할 수 있다. 본 논문의 목적은 관련저널 간 지식상호 의존성을 규명하고 저널지식의 구조화를 위하여 association, 군집화, 링크분석 등 데이터마이닝 기법을 적용하는 방법론을 제시하는 것이다. 제시된 방법을 통하여 기대되는 점들은 1) 논문의 기본속성인 키워드, 저자, 그리고 인용데이터를 통합하는 규칙 집합을 통하여 논문지식검색기능의 향상, 2) 키워드를 기반으로 관련 저널 간 그리고 저널내부의 군집분석으로 지식동향 파악, 3) Kleinberg (1999)의 권위와 허브 개념을 인용데이터 분석에 활용하여 기존의 양적 평가 기준인 영향력 지수 (impact factor)의 문제점을 보완하며, 4) 특정 논문이나 저널의 지식파급과 관련한 영향력을 산출하는 잠재적 지식파급 지수를 제안하는 것이다.

  • 인터넷 포털 사이트는 단순한 검색엔진을 넘어 네티즌들이 항해하는 사이버스페이스 그 자체를 의미할 정도로 영역과 개념이 확대되었다. 일반인들뿐만 아니라 전문 연구자도 필요로 하는 학술정보를 포털 사이트에서 서비스하기 때문에 포털 사이트를 많이 이용한다. 그 동안 포털의 검색은 얼마나 많은 정보를 검색 결과로 제시해 줄 것인가 하는 양적인 면에 관심을 두었다. 그러나 최근에는 검색의 질적인 측면에 보다 많은 관심이 주어지고 있다. 이 논문은 포털에서 제공하는 전문 학술정보 검색의 문제점을 제시하고, 주제어 사전 서비스와 연계하여 보다 신뢰성 높은 학술정보를 검색할 수 있게 하기 위한 시범적인 시도이다. 즉, 검증되고 압축적으로 정리된 사전의 표제어와, 해당 표제어를 키워드로 하는 권위있는 연구 성과를 같이 연계시킴으로써, 사전을 검색할 때 연구 성과까지 검색할 수 있게 하여, 검색의 효율성과 정보의 신뢰성을 높일 수 있는 방안을 제시하고자 하였다.

A Study of Global Impact on Welfare State : with Special References to the Social Policy of EU (지구화시대 초국가적 권위체가 복지국가 체제에 미치는 영향에 관한 연구 : 유럽연합의 사회정책을 중심으로)

  • This paper purports to explain the conflicts and compromises between supra-national authority and national welfare state in an era of globalization. For this purpose this paper, first of all, examines if Community law(EU) is directly applicable to member states(direct applicability), and subsequently, if Community law is superior to national law(supremacy). It duly claims that Community law is de facto applicable to member states and thus is superior to national law, but de jure the direct applicability and supremacy of Community law are still ambiguous in practice. Secondly, it briefly describes the development of EU social policy from 'The Rome Treaty(1957)' to 'The Amsterdam Treaty(1997)', and ascertains clear limitations of social dimension of EU. Thirdly, it explains why CEU(Commission of European Union) sequently fails to achieve uniform harmonization policy in the making of social Europe. This paper concludes that 'downward harmonization thesis' or 'convergence thesis' which commonly stresses that globalization seriously impinges on nation-state's policy autonomy and policy capacity is not evidenced at least in the case of EU social policy.

The Relationship between Learners' Epistemological Beliefs About the Nature of Physics Knowledge and Physics Knowing During Conceptual Change in Mechanical Energy (학습자의 역학적 에너지에 대한 개념변화 중에 살펴본 물리지식과 앎에 대한 인식론적 신념간의 관계)

  • This study focused on research that illustrates the important interplay between learners' epistemological beliefs about science knowledge, physics textbook knowledge and knowing physics in the classroom. Also this study investigated learners' conceptual changes on the value of mechanical energy. To explore these topics, six sophomores were chosen as participants. Three categories were introduced to classify how participants' understanding of the nature of science knowledge, physics textbook knowledge has been linked with epistemological beliefs of knowing physics. The three categories were (1)receiving physics knowledge as authority, (2)receiving physics knowledge as the perception of teacher's role and (3)understanding physics knowledge as the perception that science knowledge is a product of a variety of human ideas. These categories were also concerned with construction of individual conceptions of mechanical energy. The participants who understood physics knowledge as the perception that science knowledge is a product of a variety of human ideas naturally used metacognitive strategy in classroom compared to other participants. And they had scientific conceptions about the value of mechanical energy. Others who were passive in classroom had unscientific conceptions about the value of mechanical energy due to definition of energy and epistemological beliefs about the nature of science knowledge. In the process of their conceptual changes on the value of mechanical energy, it was important to understand an instrumental aspect of scientific knowledge and to think about the relation between formulae and physical phenomena.

A Study on the Aristotle's Eudaimonia (아리스토텔레스의 에우다이모니아 개념에 관한 연구)

  • In the twentieth century Anscombe's 1958 article "Modern Moral Philosophy" argued that duty-based conceptions of morality are conceptually incoherent for they are based on the idea of a "law without a lawgiver". Concepts such as "morally ought", "morally obligated", and "morally right" require a legislator as the source of moral authority. In the past God occupied the role, but systems that dispense with God are lacking the proper foundation for meaningful employment of those concepts. Aristotle's virtue ethics can do so without appealing to any such lawgiver, and ground morality in the well being of human moral agents. Therefore Anscombe recommends a return to the eudaimonistic ethical theories of the ancients as secular approaches. Eudaimonia is a central concept in Aristotelian ethics, along with the terms "aret?"(translated as virtue or excellence) and "phronesis"(translated as practical wisdom). In Aristotle's works, eudaimonia was used as the term for the highest human good, and so it is the aim of practical philosophy to consider what it really is and how it can be achieved. Eudaimonia is a Greek word commonly translated as well-being, happiness, welfare or "human flourishing". As Aristotle points out, saying that eudaimon life is a life which is objectively desirable, and means living well. Everyone wants to be eudaimon. And everyone agrees that being eudaimon is related to faring well and to an individual's well being. But the really difficult question is to specify just what sort of activities enable one to live well. Aristotle says that the eudaimon life is one of "virtuous activity in accordance with reason," this is a necessary condition of eudaimonia, the pleasure accompanied by virtuous activities is a sufficient condition. Hence we have a more accurate translation of eudaimonia with a review the practical meaning of eudaimonia, and the correlation between eudaimonia and arete, pleasure.

Asymmetric Bias of the Ferry Sewol Accident News Frame Discriminatory Aspects and Interpretive of Media (세월호 사고 뉴스 프레임의 비대칭적 편향성 언론의 차별적 관점과 해석 방식)

  • Doctoral Candidate, Department of Communication, Pusan National University This study analyzed the political and social significance of the disaster accident news with the frame and bias concept. In particular, this study confirmed theoretically how domestic media biased frame when it presents problem definition, causing interpretation, moral evaluation, and post-prescription on the ferry Sewol accident, In addition, the bias of the frame was analyzed comparing what is the difference between the conservative newspapers and liberal newspapers. Findings are as follows. First, in diagnosis of ferry Sewol accident, news slanted fragmentation frame>personalization frame>authority-disorder frame. The Chosun Ilbo focus on fragmentation bias, meanwhile Hankyoreh focus on the authority disorder relatively. Second, in accident evaluation, responsibility frame> moral frame> problem-solution frame. The Chosun Ilbo focus on responsibility frame and moral frame. But Hankyoreh focus on responsibility frame and problem-solution frame. Third, in the matter of responsibility, government frame>personal frame>organizational frame. Chosun Ilbo biased responsibility of the government and individuals, while the Hankyoreh is relatively more emphasis on government responsibility and the responsibility of the organization also showed. Fourth, in problem solving, thematic frame and episodic frame bias appeared as rough and level. Chosun Ilbo showed episodic frame, Hankyoreh showed thematic frame. News frame and bias as well as ideological differences of media on ferry Sewol accident was discussed in the context of the social dimension.

The Political Views of Kogakuha(古學派) in Japanese Confucianism - Focused at the concept of 'For the People' of Ito-Jinsai(伊藤仁齋) and Ogyu-Sorai (荻生?徠) (일본 고학파(古學派)의 정치관 - 이등인재(伊藤仁齋)와 적생조래(荻生?徠)의 위민(爲民) 개념을 중심으로 -)

  • The key concept of political thoughts of Confucianism is 'Tian(天)=the Heaven' and 'Ren(人)=the Human being'. In particular, the meaning of 'the Heaven(天)' is profoundly exclusive in Confucianism in comparison to the other concepts. It is because that 'the Heaven' is connected with 'Ri(理)' which explains the human being and the heaven metaphysically, and the discussions about those concepts have also been widening to the political field. And if the concept of 'the Heaven's nature(天命)' is excluded, it is difficult for us to discuss the essence of political thought of Confucianism. This paper argued how the politicalization of 'the Heaven' which was private dimension of monarch in the strict sense, changed to the public dimension of people in Japan in the early 18th century through some theories of the two famous philosopher, Ito-Jinsai(伊藤仁齋) and Ogyu-Sorai(荻生?徠) who belonged to the 'Kogakuha(古學派)'. The doctrines of Chu-tzu(朱子學) has hold absolute authority over the history of the oriental political thoughts. But the authority have gone through the stage of disorganization in a unique space called Eto(江戶) era of Japan. Therefore, the interpretations and concept establishments in a new dimension are naturally formed in that periods about 'Min(民)=People'. Based on discussions like this, the purpose of this paper is to study how those movements are emerged in what kinds of thinking and debating process. In part of Ito-Jinsai, this paper have reconsidered the concept of 'People' which Jinsai had thought and examined closely with critical mind about 'In(仁)=Mercy'. In case of Ogyu-Sorai, this paper have argued his political theory of 'the welfare of the people in the nation(安民天下)', in clarifying with the concept of 'the Roads of the Saint(先王의 道)' and the meaning about his declaration that "the Six Scripture(六經) is things(物)". The meaning of political view of this two philosopher is in the point to suggest some kinds of cure for problems of those days with the former days values. In the Jinsai's doctrine, that cure is 'the realization of the rule of right(王道)' based on new interpretation of 'Mersy'. And in case of Sorai, that is a form of independence of politics from morality based on 'the Roads of the Saint'.

  • 우리 몸에서 가장 중요한 것은 얼굴과 두 눈이고, 아름다움도 얼굴에서 나온다. 세상에서 가장 아름다운 여인으로 서양에서는 클레오파트라(Cleopatra)이고, 동양은 양귀비(楊貴妃, 719~756)를 대표적 예로 든다. 미국 캘리포니아 대학의 Zadeh 교수는 강의 시 휴식시간에 '어느 교수의 부인이 아름다운가?' 라는 농담을 하면서 제일 예쁜 여자는 A그룹, 그 다음은 B 그룹 등으로 구분하는데 착안하여 Fuzzy 개념을 발견(1965)하였고, 그 후 연구계 및 산업체에서 이 이론을 확장해 퍼지세탁기, 퍼지냉장고 등이 가전 시장을 석권한 바 있다. 한편, 2004년 미국 하버드대 기숙사에서 친구와 함께 재미삼아 페이스북을 만든 마크 저커버그(28). 여자친구의 사생활을 여기에 올려 이별의 아픔을 맛보기도 했던 그가 8년 만에 세계적 282억 달러의 부호가 됐다. 세계 인터넷업계가 가슴을 졸이며 기다려온 페이스북의 기업공개(IPO 주식상장)를 통해서다. 1783년 스위스 수학자인 오일러(Euler, 1707~1783) : 학문적으로 방대한 업적을 남긴 만큼 오일러의 인생도 파란만장했다. 그는 20대 초반의 젊은 나이에 병으로 한쪽 눈을 실명하는 불운을 겪기도 했다. 러시아로 돌아간 말년에는 수학문제를 풀기위해서 사흘 밤낮을 꼬박 몰두하다 다른 쪽 시력마저 잃게 된다. 당시 파리아카데미에서는 수여하는 권위 있는 상을 수상하고자 저명한 수학자들도 몇 개월 붙잡는 어려운 문제를 단 사흘 만에 풀었는데 너무나 집중한 나머지 실명한 것이었다. 양쪽 눈을 모두 잃었지만 오일러는 비서에게 자신의 생각들을 받아 적게 하는 방식으로 계속해서 훌륭한 업적을 남겼다. 양 눈(안(眼)) 사이 거리는 6.5cm, 이 시각차가 오늘 3D TV 시대를 열었다. 본고에서는 최근 관심이 고조된 저커버그의 페이스북과 오일러 e에 관해 요약했다.
