  • This study assessed the use of zeolite with high absorption performance in landscape paving concrete as a substitute for aggregate. The absorption performance and strength properties of paving concrete were investigated according to the replacement rate of the zeolite coarse aggregate, and the mechanical properties were investigated through strength tests. The absorption rate of the zeolite aggregate was 14%, which is 2.5 times higher than that of general aggregate. When zeolite coarse aggregate is applied to paving concrete, the absorption rate increases according to the replacement rate. The absorption rate was 5.2% at a replacement rate of 50%, which was 42% higher than that of general paving concrete. The compressive strength increased to 20% of the replacement rate and decreased at a higher replacement, but all the strengths in the construction standard code were satisfied. The flexural strength satisfied the code up to a replacement rate of 10%, but the strength decreased with increasing replacement rate, and the splitting tensile strength was greater than that of paving concrete using general aggregate up to a 20% replacement rate. Overall, zeolite coarse aggregate can be applied as a substitute.

  • The objective of this paper is to investigate experimentally the effect of the substitution of recycled aggregates under 13mm on the properties of the concrete using coarse aggregate with size of 13~25mm. Recycled aggregate under 13mm were substituted to the concrete ranged from 10% to 100%. To compare the properties with the case of recycled aggregate, crushed stone with smaller than 13mm was also substituted to the concrete by 20% and 40%. Test results showed that increase of recycled aggregate under 13mm resulted in the increase of slump and compressive strength compared with plain mixture, which was made with only aggregate with 13~25mm size. This is due to the dense gradation of aggregate in association with addition of relatively small particle. It is thought that the use of recycled aggregate under 13mm along with 30% contributes to the quality improvement of the concrete made with only 13~25mm aggregate.

  • This paper concerns flexural strength of reinforced concrete beams containing recycled coarse aggregate (RCA) with compressive strength ranging from 31 to 38 MPa. The experimental parameters were replacement ratio of RCA and rebar ratio. Replacement ratio of RCA was 0, 30, 50 and 100%, and rebar ratio was 0.50, 0.79 and 1.14%. The RCA concrete beams were tested by using four-point bending test, and experimental results were discussed regarding crack and failure patterns, load-deflection relationship. Crack pattern of concrete beams with RCA was similar to that of concrete beams with natural coarse aggregate (NCA) but overall crack spacing of concrete beams with RCA was smaller than that of concrete beams with NCA. The crack width of RCA and NCA concrete beams was similar to each other. In addition, the test results of flexural strength were compared to the design code predictions. The design code predictions for flexural strength underestimated the experimental results. Therefore, the design code predictions for flexural strength of RCA concrete beams would offer conservative design.

  • This study analyzed the fundamental properties and strength properties of concrete utilizing Bottom Ash as coarse aggregate for concrete. As a result, compared to non-mixture, the slump decreases about 4.5${\sim}$54.2% as the mixing ratio of Bottom Ash increases. However, influence of the air contents is very little. The bleeding shows similar slump characteristics, and the primary stage of bleeding decreases as the mixing ratio of Bottom Ash increases. As the mixing ratio of Bottom Ash increases, the compressive strength decreases. When Bottom Ash is mixed by 40%, compressive strength decreases about 1.1${\sim}$5.3%. Even when Bottom Ash is mixed over 60%, compressive strength decreases sharply and is revealed about 85.2${\sim}$87.7% of non-mixture concrete strength. To utilize Bottom Ash in large quantities, it is thought that the improvement method of strength has to be discussed such as mixing strengthening element.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the optimum replacement rate and material properties of eco-friendly recycled concrete using recycled coarse aggregates and rapid-chilled steel slag fine aggregates. The replacement rate of recycled coarse aggregates was increased from 30% to 50% of total volume of coarse aggregates and the rapid-chilled steel slag aggregates were substituted for 10% to 50% of total volume of fine aggregates. As a result, the increment of recycled coarse aggregates in concrete caused the reduction of the compressive strength. On the other hand, as increasing the replacement ratio of rapid chilled steel slag aggregates, the compressive strength was enhanced. Furthermore, the optimum use of rapid chilled steel slag aggregates was suggested up to 20~30% of fine aggregates and the use of it could be helpful to expand the replacement rate of recycled aggregates.

  • This study aims to make artificial stone by recycling blast furnace slag powder, red mud and recycled aggregate, which are known as industrial waste. Recycled aggregate is a typical construction waste, and various recycled products such as concrete block are being sold. In this study, we tried to make artificial stone mixed with waste such as recycled aggregate, and experimented with the use of artificial stone and further study. As the red mud replacement ratio increased, the absorption ratio, fluidity and air content of the matrix were measured to be decreased, and the strength and density were found to increase. The fluidity and absorption ratio decreased with increasing the replacement ratio of recycled aggregate, and the air quantity, rate of aggregate on the surface, density and intensity increased to a certain level. Therefore, this study intends to make artificial stone using recycled resources and conducted basic experiments for further study.

  • The aim of this research is suggesting application method of the wasted rock obtained from the limestone quarry of raw material for cement as a coarse aggregate for high strength concrete after crushing and sieving processes. The wasted rock has been normally wasted because of its low quality as a material for cement production. In this research, the concrete using this wasted limestone coarse aggregate was evaluated the constructability based on the performances of workability, air content, and compressive strength. From the experiment, a favorable performance was achieved with a limestone coarse aggregate for high strength concrete comparing to the high strength concrete using granite coarse aggregate.

  • As the lack of specific aggregation intensifies, the development of alternative resources is urgent. Construction waste is increasing every year, but recycled aggregate is used as a low value added material. Various studies are currently underway at the national level. In this paper, the mechanical performance of the concrete according to the concrete mixing method and the replacement amount of the circulating coarse aggregate was compared and evaluated. Concrete mixing method was normal mixing approach(NMA) method, two-stage mixing approach1 (TSMA1) method, two-stage mixing approach2 (TSMA2) method. Fresh concrete was tested for air content, slump test, and unit volume weight. Compressive strength and flexural strength were tested in hardened concrete. According to the TSMA method, the mechanical performance difference of concrete is shown, and the strength is decreased according to the circulating coarse aggregate replacement amount.
