Research of Oyster Shell Recycled Coating Material and its Application to Filter Bed (굴껍질을 재활용한 코팅제의 여과지 코팅 성능평가에 관한 연구)

  • 현재 남해안 굴양식산업은 어업인들의 중요한 소득원이 되고 있으나, 굴양식장에서 발생되는 굴패각은 처리곤란 및 악취발생으로 인해 또 다른 해양오염원으로 그 문제성이 심각하게 대두되고 있는 실정이다. 굴양식장에서 연간 약 28~30만여톤의 굴패각이 발생되고 있으며, 그 중 10~20%는 종패부착용이나 비료로 재활용되고 있고, 80~90%는 매립되거나 야적 방치된다고 보고되고 있다. 본 연구에서는 굴패각을 재활용하고자 굴껍질의 성분분석을 실시하여 나노고분자세라믹 코팅제의 세라믹 소재로써의 적용 가능성여부를 확인하였고, 경기도 P정수장 내 여과지 콘크리트 벽면에 코팅처리하여 그 성능을 확인하였다. 그 결과 패각의 굴껍질은 90%이상이 탄산칼슘($CaCO_3$)로 이루어져 있었으며, 굴껍질을 재활용한 나노고분자세라믹 코팅제는 pH 7.5~8.5로서 일반수도를 측정한 pH 7.3~7.8과 유사한 결과를 보였다. 또한, 나노고분자세라믹 코팅제의 콘크리트 벽면에 대한 부착강도는 한국산업규격에 제시된 폴리머의 방수재료 부착강도인 8~10(kg.f/$cm^2$)이상의 값이 나타남에 따라 패각의 굴껍질을 재활용한 나노고분자세라믹 코팅제의 경기도 P정수장 내 여과지 콘크리트 벽면 코팅제로써 적용이 가능한 것으로 확인 되었다.

  • In order to obtain the basic data for the effective seed production of Ureshis unicinctus sediment preference, burrow shape and burrowing depth in sediment were investigated in the laboratory. The highest valus in both sediment preference and burrowing rate of U. unicinctus were shown at fine and (0.11~0.50mm in the mean diameter). U. unicinctus made various types of burrows, such as J, L, S and U shapes. Generally only one individual inhabits in burrow with head-up.

A STUDY ON THE SANITARY QUALITY OF PACIFIC OYSTERS, CRASSOSTREA GIGAS AND GROWING WATERS IN BURLEY LAGOON, WASHINGTON (미국 Washington주 Burley Lagoon에 있어서의 참굴, Crassostrea gigas과 그 서식수역에 대한 위생학적 연구)

  • A study of the sanitary quality of Pacific oysters (Crassostrea gigas) and growing waters associated with raft culture in Burley Lagoon, Washington was conducted. The study was sponsored by the Agency for International Development of the U.S. Department of State. The results obtained in this study are as follows: The average values of temperature, salinity and turbidity in the water showed that the values of bottom sample were slightly higher than top samples. The difference was about $0.3^{\circ}C$ for temperature, $0.5\%_{\circ}$ for salinity and 0.1 JTU for turbidity. The changes of temperature and salinity by tide generally followed the tide cycle pattern. Sanitary indicator microorganism concentrations in top water were generally higher than those in bottom water. In general, the levels of mean coliform and fecal coliform MPN's varied inversely with tide level indicating that the sources of these groups of microorganisms are the fresh water streams flowing into the estuary. The $35^{\circ}C$ plate counts were more stable at different tide levels. Mean values of coliform and fecal coliform MPN's in oysters demonstrated that levels in top oysters were generally higher than those in bottom oysters. However, mean values of $35^{\circ}C$ Plate count in oysters did not show this pattern. The mean levels of both coliform and fecal coliform MPN's in oysters also correlated inversely with tidal level. The accumulation ratios of oysters obtained during the study period ranged from 8.6 to 19.7 for mean coliform MPN and 16.9 to 44.3 for fecal coliform MPN. According to the results obtained from present study, one suggestion could be of considerable importance for the sanitary operation in hanging culture of pacific oysters. The results indicate that harvest of the oysters at high tide would result in lower levels of indicator organisms in the shellfish.

  • Recently loess are used as design and construction materials in some construction sites. However, many problems have come to the fore because the loess was considered merely as ordinary soil, not taking the engineering characteristics of loess into account at all. The purpose of this study is to effectively mix and use the oyster shell-which is the byproduct of oyster farming in the clean and pure water zone of Southwestern region-with loess in a bid to increase the utility, considering that loess itself has the limit for civil engineering purpose, and research the usability of oyster shell as an alternative material for construction.

AMOEBA INFECTION IN OYSTER (CRASSOSTREA GIGAS) (굴에 기생하는 Amoeba에 대하여)

  • A species of enigmatic amoeba was found front the oysters culcured in Jinhae Bay and the Goje Bay in September-October 1978 and October 1979. Occurrence and the morphological characteristics of the amoeba were studied. Based on their peculiar morphological characters the enigmatic body was a species of parasitic amoeba. The amoebas were morphologically very similar to the amoeboid parasite described by Sawyer(1977). Occurrence of the oysters infected with the amoeboid ranged from zero to $13.3\%$. The infection rate did not show any relations to the depth of water where the oysters were suspended. The longest diameter of the amoeba is $24\;\mu$. The thin outer membrane is lightly stained with eosin and PAS positively. Initially one amoeboid was found in an ovum, and later it propagated to 3 to 4 individuals.

Daily Variation of Particulate Organic Carbon in Wonmun Bay on the South Coast of Korea in Late Summer (늦여름 원문만 굴양식장 입자유기탄소의 일변동)

  • Daily variation of particulate organic carbon(POC) and some factors controlling its level were examined for a semi-enclosed bay(Wonmun Bay, south coast of Korea), in which a lot of suspended oyster culture farms existed, in September, 1992. Observations were made at hourly interval. In spite of the relatively short survey period, strong short-term variation of POC concentration could be observed. Concentrations of POC were the range of $58{\sim}582{\mu}g/l(average 272{\mu}g/l)$ and their variation pattern was similar to those of chlorophyll a with the range of $0.90{\sim}7.25{\mu}g/l(average 3.35{\mu}g/l)$. The low C/N ratios also suggested that marine microalgae was a major component of POC for Wonmun Bay. Primary production, average $1.97\;gC/m^2/day$, was the main source of POC beacuse the supply of POC via freshwater input and exchange with the outer part of the bay was little. Oyster population also excreted a small amount of POC. About $40\%$ of produced POC was decomposed heterotrophically. Another important cause for the fluctuation of observed POC was tidal cycle. Considerable POC, which amounted $37\%$ of produced POC, was lost from the bay due to flushing by tidal cycle. It was also calculated that about $16\%$ was transported onto the sediment. It seemed that a part of POC was consumed by oyster and other heterotrophs.

  • This research compares oyster farming in Gamak Bay which Hiroshima Bay which has nearly similar marine environments. The marine environment of these two waters has similar variations of air temperature, sea surface temperature, precipitation and salinity. However Hiroshima Bay is higher than Gamak Bay in the sea surface temperature and Hiroshima Bay is also higher than Gamak Bay in the salinity. Their oyster farming method is basically similar but it is different in their facilities. We need to take some measures against high mortalities, and in addition, to enhance the rate of seed collection.

  • In the era of the fourth industrial revolution, the application of big data analysis technology is crucial in various industries. In this regard, considerable research is necessary to improve aquafarming productivity, particularly in fish culture, which is one of the primary industries in the world. In this study, a sample experiment using a flop was conducted to improve oyster productivity in fish farms, and a flush was installed in an environment similar to aquaculture farms. Thereafter, the temperature data of the water environment where the formation of burrows considerably improved were collected; the growth rate of burrow seeds was also measured. The gathered experimental data were examined by time series data analysis. Finally, a system that visualizes the analysis results based on big data is proposed. In accord with the results of this study, it is expected that more advanced research on the productivity improvement of oyster aquafarming will be performed.
