In this paper, we design an acoustic meta-material silencer that operates at low frequency to reduce noise in duct. A high refractive index meta-material silencer is demonstrated with a combination of zigzag structured thin waveguide and helmholtz resonator, which reduces the speed of sound. Finite Element Method (FEM) analysis via thermo-viscous acoustic mesh is performed in order to calculate thermo-viscous dissipation in sub-wavelength waveguide. Sound power reflection, transmission and absorption coefficients are obtained utilizing 4-Microphone Method. The results show that cut-off frequency and transmission loss can be controlled through adjusting intervals of the zigzag structures. A wide-band acoustic silencer is also suggested by connecting meta-materials in series or parallel.

A topology optimization method for phononic crystals is developed for the design of sound barriers, using the level set approach. Given a frequency and an incident wave to the phononic crystals, an optimal shape of periodic inclusions is found by minimizing the norm of transmittance. In a sound field including scattering bodies, an acoustic wave can be refracted on the obstacle boundaries, which enables to control acoustic performance by taking the shape of inclusions as the design variables. In this research, we consider a layered structure which is composed of inclusions arranged periodically in horizontal direction while finite inclusions are distributed in vertical direction. Due to the periodicity of inclusions, a unit cell can be considered to analyze the wave propagation together with proper boundary conditions which are imposed on the left and right edges of the unit cell using the Bloch theorem. The boundary conditions for the lower and the upper boundaries of unit cell are described by impedance matrices, which represent the transmission of waves between the layered structure and the semi-infinite external media. A level set method is employed to describe the topology and the shape of inclusions. In the level set method, the initial domain is kept fixed and its boundary is represented by an implicit moving boundary embedded in the level set function, which facilitates to handle complicated topological shape changes. Through several numerical examples, the applicability of the proposed method is demonstrated.
To determine the shallow subsurface structure and sliding surface of land creeping in 2016 at Hadong-gun, Gyeongsangnam-do, geophysical surveys (electric resistivity, and refraction seismic methods, borehole televiewer) and slope stability analysis were conducted. The subsurface structure delineated with borehole lithologies and seismic velocity structures provided the information that the sediment layer on the top of the slope was rather as thick as 20 m and the underlying weathered rock (anorthosite) was thinner than 1 m. Based on the tension cracks observed during the geological mapping, televiewer scanning was performed at the borehole BH-2 and detected the intensive fracture zones at the ground-water level, associated with the slip weak zones mapped in dipole-dipole electrical resistivity section. Downslope sliding and slightly upward pushing at the apex of high resistive bedrock explains the curved slip plane of the land creeping. Such a convex structure might play a role of natural toe abutment for preventing the downward development of slip weak zones. In slope stability analysis, the safety factors of the slip weak zone are calculated with varying the groundwater levels for dry and rainy seasons and the downslope is founded to be unstable with safety factor of 0.89 due to fully saturated material in rainy season.
Structures show the phehomena of deformation and lowering of function with time-lapse by artificial environments and changes of geotechnical conditions or accumulation of initial deformation elements. This study aims the structural assessment of cultural property, Chum-Sung-Dae, located in Kyeongju city, Korea. It was built about 1,300 years ago, and has undergone deformation and ground-subsidence with time-lapse. Non-destructive evaluation techniques were applied to the Chum-Sung-Dae, to protect it from survey Because of this reason, 3D precise laser scanning surveying system was applied to measure the exact size of Chum-Sung-Dae, displacement and declining angles. Geophysical exploration also was applied to study the subsurface distribution of geotechnical parameters or physical properties. Natural frequencies were measured from real and model of Chum-Sung-Dae to study the dynamic characteristics of vibration and/or earthquake load and stiffness of structures.
Coupled wave induced current modeling system(WIC) was developed from combining with the nearshore spectral wave model, SWAN, the wave induced force model, WIF, and the flow model, EFDC. The reasonable results were obtained from WIC modeling system. The ratio of the wave height calculated with respect to refraction and diffraction effects over submerged spherical shoal was occurred approximately 1~5 % errors compared to Goda(2000)'s result. The radiation stress suggested by Longuet-Higgins and Stewart(1960), the stresses due to rollers in breaking waves proposed by Dally and Osiecki(1994), and Kim(2004)'s new spreading approach instead of the previous lateral mixing approach were added to calculate wave induced force. The results of the WIC modeling system show good agreement with Nishimura et al.(1985)'s laboratory measurements and better than Kim(2004)'s 2 dimensional depth averaged numerical computations for a plane beach with detached breakwater. The present flow field computed agrees reasonably well with the measured flow field. The relative merit of WIF model in WIC modeling system is unconditional stable for time increment.
A set of field investigations was performed to estimate accurately the predominant periods of seismic 8round motions and the attenuation characteristics of the seismic ground vibration. Predominant periods of ground motions were estimated from the measurement of the continuous microseismic vibratins of certain periods, inherent in the ground and in the buildings, utilizing the high sensitivity digital velocity seismometer consisting of 3-component geophones and a digital seismograph. Estimated predominant periods of microseismic vibraion of the ground(measured on'the ground surface) and the building (measured on the second floor) were in the range of 0.18~0.235 sec. and 0.26~0.31 sec. respectively. The subsurface structure of the site ground was surveyed by the seismic refraction method utilizing the digital seismicwave probing system. The ground structure was found to be a two-layered system : an upper top soil layer of 7m in thickness with the P-wave velocity of 662m1sec and a lower layer of silty-clayey soils with the P -wave velocity of 2210m1 sec. The attenuation characteristics of the seismic ground vibrations were determined by the amplitude decay measurement method us;ng the Seisgun, which produces strong artificial seismic energy. Measured spatial attenuation coefficients of the ground vibration in vertical(Z) longitudinal(X), transverse(Y) direction were 0.1137, 0.0025, and 0.0290 respectively. Estimated Spartial QP's (inverse of the specific dissipation constant w.r.t. shear waved of X, Y, and Z directions were in the range of 5.913~7.575, 32.371~41.452, 2.794~3.579 re spectively. This indicates that aseimic design of the structures on the site should take stronger consideration regarding the earthquake resistance characteristics of the structures against longitudinal ground motion.

Shallow water waves are hindcasted from sea wind fields, which include wave transformations such as shoaling, refraction, diffraction, reflection and wave breaking. In case of estimating sea wind field in shallow water, the sea wind revised from free wind obtained by the typhoon model is widely used. However, this method is not able to consider the effect of land topography on the wind field, which will be important factor for shallow water wave forecasting and hindcasting. In this study, therefore, the effect of land topography on sea wind field in shallow water is investigated for shallow water wave forecasting and hindcasting with high accuracy. The 3-D MASCON model is introduced to consider the influence of land topography on the wind field. And, for two areas divided by the topographical characteristics, i.e. shielded and opened coastal areas, sea wind field is examined by comparison between initial wind field by typhoon model and modified wind field by 3-D MASCON model. Finally, applying these sea wind fields to SWAN model, the results of shallow water wave calculated in shielded and opened coastal areas are compared, and, also, the effect of MASCON model on shallow water wave forecasting and hindcasting is discussed.

In this study, the reliability design method developed by Shimosako and Takahashi in 1999 for calculation of the expected sliding distance of the caisson of a vertical breakwater is extended to take into account the variability in wave direction such as directional spreading of waves, obliquity of the deep-water design principal wave direction from the shore-normal direction, and its variation about the design value. To calculate the transformation of random directional waves, the model developed by Kweon et al. in 1997 is used instead of Goda's model, which was developed in 1975 for unidirectional random waves normally incident to a straight coast with parallel depth contours and has been used by Shimosako and Takahashi. The effects of directional spreading and the variation of deep-water principal wave directions were minor compared with those of the obliquity of the deep-water design principal wave direction from the shore-normal direction, which tends to reduce the expected sliding distance as it increases. Especially when we used the field data in a part of east coast of Korea, considering the variability in wave directions reduced the expected sliding distance to about one third of that not considering the directional variability. Reducing the significant wave height calculated at the design site by 6% to correct the effect of wave refraction neglected in using Goda's model was found to be proper when the deep-water design principal wave direction is about 20 degrees. When it is smaller than 20 degrees, a value smaller than 6% should be used, or vice versa. When we designed the caisson with the expected sliding distance to be 30㎝, in the area of water depth of 25 m or smaller, we could reduce the caisson width by about 30% at the maximum compared with the deterministic design, even if we did not consider the variability in wave directions. When we used the field data in a part of east coast of Korea, considering the variability in wave directions reduced the necessary caisson width by about 10% at the maximum compared with that not considering the directional variability, and is needed a caisson width smaller than that of the deterministic design in the whole range of water depth considered (10∼30 m).
An airborne gravity survey using a helicopter was carried out in October 2008, offshore along the northern Noto Peninsula, to understand the shallow and regional underground structure. Eleven flight lines, including three tie lines, were arranged at 2 km spacing within 20 km of the coast. The total length of the flight lines was ~700 km. The Bouguer anomalies computed from the airborne gravimetry are consistent with those computed from land and shipborne gravimetry, which gradually decrease in the offshore direction. So, the accuracy of the airborne system is considered to be adequate. A local gravity low in Wajima Bay, which was already known from seafloor gravimetry, was also observed. This suggests that the airborne system has a structural resolution of ~2 km. Reduction of gravity data to a common datum was conducted by compiling the three kinds of gravity data, from airborne, shipborne, and land surveys. In the present study, we have used a solid angle numerical integration method and an iteration method. We finally calculated the gravity anomalies at 300 m above sea level. We needed to add corrections of 2.5 mGals in order to compile the airborne and shipborne gravity data smoothly, so the accuracy of the Bouguer anomaly map is considered to be nearly 2 mGal on the whole, and 5 mGals at worst in limited or local areas.
This case study which is to make 2-Dimension earth's crust structures clearly is about the great boring-hole blasting to provide ground vibration source of the reflected wave research on the Korean Peninsula earth's crust structures research. For this study we've done blasting twice-500 ㎏/charge per delay, 1,000 ㎏/charge per delay, and the specifications of blasting are the following - dia.: 300 ㎜, boring-depth : 100m, besides, we used the explosives and electric detonators which have sufficient detonating velocity and very excellent safety, capacity of detonating, accurate delay time. We charged explosives into steel pipe with bulk type to avoid dead pressure by ground water. And then we tested about pipe airtight and blasting to certificate which has no problem by using on this study. In the results, we succeeded each blasting in Seosan, Youngdong. For the Peak Sum Vector(PSV) around the blasting at the main points, its real measured PSV is higher 180 % than estimated PSV with USBM. In this study we can't to be analysis of vibration velocity, but to be key providing vibration source.
