The Dioptric Differences between Both Eyes by Dioptric Power Matrix (굴절력 매트릭스에 의한 양안의 굴절력 차이)

  • This study was performed to survey dioptric differences between the refractive states of both eyes from 1,100 patients who were given their prescriptions in spectacles. The differences were obtained by using dioptric power matrix. The prevalence of anisometropia was 96.9% for isoanisometropia, 2.9% for simple anisometropia, 0.2% for antimetropia. Spherical anisometropia was 22.1%, cylindrical anisometropia was 10.9%, spherocylindrical anisometropia was 46.5%, and no anisometropia was 20.5%. Anisometropia was more in thirties and forties than in other groups. In distribution of only spherical diopter differences, 76.1% were less than 0.50D, 91.7% were under 1.00D, only 2.5% were over 2.00D. In cylindrical diopter differences alone, 93.3% had under 0.50D, 1.7% had more than 1.00D. In spherocylindrical anisometropia, 52.8% were less than 0.50D, 78.6% were under 1.00D, 5.1% were more than 2.00D. In axis differences, with-the-rule type was 29.9%, against-the-rule type was 29.8%, oblique type was 40.3%.

Analysis of Adaptation for The first-time Progressive Lenses Glasses Wearers (누진렌즈 안경 처음 착용자의 적응도 분석)

  • Purpose: This study analyzed the factors related to adaptation of people who wears progressive lenses glasses for the first time. Methods: 463 presbyopia (Aged 41~78) without any ocular diseases with the progressive lens glasses were prescribed from 2010 to 2011 at B clinic in the Gwangju city. Progressive lenses adaptation were analyzed according to gender, age, distance refractive state, presbyopic addition, progressive lens design, the old glasses, astigmatism type, and anisometropia etc. High, mid and low-adapted groups were categorized as the status of wearing progressive lenses glasses, re-wearing, occasionally wearing and failed to weraing, respectively. Results: Men showed significantly higher adaptation (p=0.02) than women. Presbyopic addition (p=0.05) and progressive lens design (p=0.02) were statistically significant. However, it was found that there was so statistical significance for the factors of age, distance refractive state, the old glasses, astigmatism type, and anisometropia. Conclusions: According to the results of this study, when progressive lenses were prescribed, we should consider for adaptation gender, presbyopic addition, and progressive lens design etc.

Relationship between Dominant Eye and Refractive Error in Myopic Anisometropia (굴절부등근시환자에서의 우세안과 굴절이상의 관계)

  • Purpose: To investigate the relationship between dominant eye and refractive error in patients with myopic anisometropia. Methods: This study population consisted of myopes less than 15 years old who were followed up for anisometropia defined as interocular difference of spherical equivalent (SE) ≥1.0 diopter (D). All patients underwent the hole-in-the-card test at far and near to determine ocular dominance. The data were analyzed for statistical significance using Fisher's exact test. Results: A total of 102 eyes in 51 patients were analyzed. The mean age of the patients was 10.4 ± 1.4 years and 54.9% were male. The mean SE was -2.97 ± 1.95 D in the right eye and -3.02 ± 1.92 D in the left eye. The right eye was the dominant eye in 43.1% and 37.3% at distance and near, respectively. The agreement of dominancy between distant and near was 82.4%. The near dominant eyes showed statistically significant accordance with more myopic eyes (p = 0.009). On the other hand, there was no statistically significant relationship between more myopic eyes and distant dominant eyes (p = 0.09). Conclusions: The near dominant eye was more myopic eye in patients with myopic anisometropia. This was considered to be related with the lag of accommodation in dominant eye with near distance.

  • This study aims at carrying out the precision leveling by getting the coeicffients of refraction (K) through experiment presented necessarily in the zenith distance measurements of trigonometrical leveling. Thus, the process and characteristics of seasonal and hourly variation of the coefficients of refraction (K) in the Honan district are presented in this paper, especially in the mountainous area surrounded with the Mt. Mudeung, in the coastal area of Mokpo and Yeosu district, and in the plain area of Gwangju district.

The Study on Refractive Amblyopia (굴절성 약시안에 대한 고찰)

  • We investigated the effect of age at initial correction, of 44 refractive amblyopic patients duration of correction on corrected visual acuity with the lapse of time for mean 33months(3months-59months). Full cycloplegic corrections were prescribed at the initial visit to all subjects. The distribution of initial corrected visual acuity was 0.02 to 0.5. Age at initial correction varied from 3 years to 12 years. The refractive error appeared to have the greatest influence on the visual outcome, showing continuous visual improvement after initial correction. But the age at initial correction did not appear to influence on the initial and final corrected visual acuity showed a significant difference, irrespective of age at the initial correction Or degree of anisometropia.

Clinical Features of Retinal Correspondence according to Refractive Errors and Deviation Angles (굴절이상과 편위각에 따른 망막대응의 임상적 고찰)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to provide useful information for evaluating the sensory function of patients with strabismus by identifying the distribution of anomalous retinal correspondence (ARC) and normal retinal correspondence (NRC) by the degree of refractive errors and deviation angles. Methods: Objective refraction (AR/K, Cannon RK-F1, Japan) and subjective refraction tests were performed on 56 subjects (male: 26, female: 30) by an examiner; objective deviation angle was measured using synoptophore (OCULUS Synoptophore, Germany) with subject' eyes fully corrected for distance, and then subjective deviation angle was measured. Results: In all groups with refractive errors, the number of ARC was larger than that of NRC(67%). Particularly, it was largest in groups with myopia (71%), and in all groups, the number of UARC was larger than that of HARC. In groups with anisometropia, although the numbers of NRC and ARC were same, the number of UARC was larger than that of HARC as in other groups. In the distribution of NRC and ARC by deviation angle, the number of NRC was larger than that of ARC (46%) only at microstrabismus (0 ~ ${\pm}10{\triangle}$). Conclusions: Normal retinal correspondence were the most emmetropia in the retinal response were much higher than in the more hyperopia than the retinal correspondence were more myopia. In addition, the smaller the angle of retinal correspondence Normal over many, but overall, respectively.

Development of An Optometric Questionnaire for the Elderly Suitable for Optical Shops in Korea (한국 안경원 실정에 맞는 노안용 문진표의 개발)

  • Purpose: The aim of this study was to help the rapid and effective eye-tests of old patients by developing an optometric questionnaire for the elderly suitable for optical shops in Korea. Methods: We surveyed several previous studies about the age-related changes of the eye, and deduced 10 items which were appropriate for optometric eye-tests. Excluding the items that could be easily found in a routine eye-test and that was just physiological changes, we principally chose anomaly items which could be catched by simple oral questions. The questionnaire was mainly composed of clinically important items that were frequently observed. Results: To diagnose optometric symptoms related to eye-aging, we listed 15 questions on the questionnaire for the elderly. Each of the 15 questions was respectively about the decline in the amplitude of accommodation (no.1), anisometropia (no.2), xerophthalmia (no.3), muscae volitantes (no.4-5), dark adaptation (no.6) light and dark adaptation (no.7), contrast sensitivity (no.8), contrast sensitivity and anisometropia (no.9), contrast sensitivity and colour vision (no.10), the field of view (no.11), stereoscopic vision (no.12), colour vision (no.13), cataract (no.14), and presbyopia (no.15). Each question was easy to understand and related to the generally observed symptoms. Conclusions: Our optometric questionnaire for the elderly, which was developed by the procedure mentioned above, was expected to be a help for examining the aging eye and offer the basis of eye-tests of older patients in Korean optical shops.
