Verification of dilution ratio of the newly developed ejector-porous tube diluter for measurement of fine dust in coal-fired power plant stack (화력발전소 굴뚝 미세먼지 측정을 위해 개발한 이젝터-다공튜브 희석장치의 희석비 검증)

  • The exhaust emissions from coal-fired power plants have received much attention because coal-fired power plants are the one of the largest sources of particulate matter (PM) emissions in South Korea. To measure the PM10 and PM2.5, we developed the novel diluter which is comprised of ejector and porous tube in series. The dilution ratio must be defined to calculate particle concentrations of the sampled air as well as to probe match for the isokinetic sampling. For this reason, we verified the dilution ratio of the developed diluter by the flow rate, numerical solution, gas concentration and particle concentration. The ejector-supplied flow rates were 10-50 L/min and the porous tube-supplied flow rates were 30, 50 L/min in this study. All methods above showed similar dilution ratios to each other within 10 % error rate. The dilution ratio was confirmed by comparing mass concentrations before and after the dilution process.

  • The purpose of this research is to collect atmospheric environmental information at specific altitudes in a range of 0 to 1 km above the surface and to monitor it using drones. The corresponding temperature and humidity were measured with the meteorological factors, and the amounts of fine dust and $CO_2$ were observed by the environmental factors so that they could receive the normal values. Monitoring the status of atmospheric gas emission in specific enterprises, industrial complexes and regions through the measurement is meant to help establish policies to reduce pollution factors. In conventional means previously practiced, exhaust gas detection accompanies a great deal of risks in terms of safety because the surveyor is directly exposed to the source of contamination such as the holes installed in the chimney. However, in our proposed method, the drone can collect information in a wide range under safe circumstances, which can be utilized through wide industrial areas.

  • In this study, applicability of GHG ETS Offset Program in Korea for a refrigerant sector was analyzed by reviewing foreign management policy and project status in progress related to refrigerants in the disposal stage. In order to derive the implication of the domestic Offset Program, it was looked into approved offset projects and certified offset credits current state in Korea. Offset Program has approved 22 methodologies up to the present, so it is necessary to enhance the accessibility to GHG reduction in various industrial sector including the refrigerant sector by developing appropriate methodologies. In this study firstly, it was investigated that management regulation of countries are managing the refrigerants in the disposal stage such as United States, Japan, Australia. Secondly, of CDM methodologies there were two methodologies associated with the refrigerant reduction(treatment), which were decomposition HFC-23 and destruction of HFC-134a. Also there were a non-registered methodology about destruction of HFC-134a of end of life vehicles. Lastly, in California according to Compliance Offset Program, there was Compliance Offset Protocol in ODS Projects that provided eligible conditions.   • This case study is concerned with the project of the explosive demolition for the DCRE Incheon plant located in Hakik district in Incheon city. The building was severely aging due to the high temperature and sea winds of hundreds of degrees emitted by chimney-shaped steel structures inside the building. Due to this, the concrete of the column and the beam fell off and rusted rebar were exposed, and some of the slabs were severely damaged, making it difficult for workers to access the structure. Therefore, it is not possible to apply a mechanical demolition method in which heavy equipment enters the interior of the building, and an explosive demolition method was applied to allow the building to be demolished without dismantling the internal facilities of the building. The order of blasting proceeded in the order of (1) building ${\rightarrow}$ (2) chimney 2 ${\rightarrow}$ (3) chimney 1. A total of 406 electronic detonators (Unitronic 600) was used to sequentially initiate the explosives installed at appropriate in building and chimneys.

Changesin SO2 Pollution by Clustering of Individual Location Factories Scattered throughout Gimpo City (김포시 난립 개별입지 공장 군집화 조정에 따른 SO2 오염도 변화)

  • Many factories indiscriminately located in the vicinity of residential areas need to be adjusted to quasi-industrial parks or new planning management area. In the present work, the changes of atmospheric $SO_2$ concentration according to clustering of individual location factories throughout Gimpo city into a new area were evaluated using a commercial dispersion model, AERMOD. As a result of the evaluation, it was suggested the possibility of improving the pollution through the relocation of individual factories. The combination of relocation and discharge regulation on the stack height may reduce the overall pollution from Gimpo approximately up to 70%, and some areas achieve maximum 87% decrease. However, the area selected as a cluster zone may show a relatively large increase compared to the change in the total pollution level of Gimpo.

Comparison of Shallow Model Tunnel Test Using Image Processing and Numerical Analysis (이미지 프로세싱을 이용한 얕은 터널 모형실험과 수치해석의 비교)

  • In this study, 2D shallow tunnel model test using close range photogrammetric technique was conducted with aluminium rods simulating continuum granular material. Numerical analysis was also carried out in order to identify the behaviour of subsurface deformations caused by shallow tunnelling. Direction and magnitude of displacement vectors from the model test were identical to the result of numerical analysis based on the model data. In particular, it is shown that the vector direction was toward a point below the tunnel invert level. A narrow "chimney or tulip like" pattern of vertical displacement was confirmed by both the model test and numerical analysis. This behaviour is consistent with the field data. In addition to the qualitative comparison, the quantitative result of subsurface settlements according to 2D volume loss showed good agreement between the model test and numerical analysis. Therefore, close range photogrammetric technique applied in the model test may be used to validate the result from the continuum numerical analysis.

Characterization of deterioration of concrete lining in tunnel structures (터널 콘크리트 라이닝 구조물의 성능저하 특성)

  • The objective of this study is to evaluate the durability and deterioration of concrete lining in the seven conventional tunnels. These tunnels were constructed about 40~70 years ago, and closed about 10~40 years ago. The field investigation and various laboratory testings were performed for this study. It was observed from the visual, examinations that the concrete linings of 7 tunnels were severely deteriorated, such as, cracks, leakages, desquamation, and exploitations. The compressive strengths obtained from rebound hardness method and uniaxial compressive strength test on core specimens largely differed depending on the locations in the tunnel. The maximum compressive strength of concrete lining was greater about 2 times than the minimum compressive strength of concrete lining in the same tunnel. The results of micro-structural analysis showed that the substances deteriorating the concrete lining, such as ettringite and thaumasite, were detected in the concrete lining of tunnel.

  • A variety of communications are developed and advanced by integration of wireless and wire connections with heterogeneous system. Traditional technologies are mainly focus on information technology based on computer techniques in the field of industry, manufacture and automation fields. As new technologies are developed and enhanced with traditional techniques, a lot of new applications are emerged and merged with existing mechanism and skills. The representative applications are IoT(Internet of Things) services and applications. IoT is breakthrough technologies and one of the innovation industries which are called 4 generation industry revolution. Due to limited resources in IoT such as small memory, low power and computing power, IoT devices are vulnerable and disclosed with security problems. In this paper, we reviewed and analyzed security challenges, threats and requirements under IoT service.

Butterfly Community Monitoring on Wolchulsan National Park in Korea (월출산국립공원 나비군집 모니터링)

  • Butterfly communities were monitored to investigate the emergence pattern with line transect method at Wolchulsan National Park through May to October in 2012. Totally 1,151 individuals belong to 49 species were monitored through the study period. Libythea celtis was a dominant species with showing 357 individuals(31%) followed by Pseudozizeeria maha 96 individuals(8.3%), Mycalesis gotama 75 individuals(6.5%) and Ninois dryas 72 individuals(6.2%) respectively. Among the monitoring periods, highest individuals and species(516 individuals belong to 30 species) were found at June and showed a high abundance near reservoir region. Highest diversity was shown at August with a Shannon index of 2.75 while lowest at October(Shanon index 1.78) and total diversity index was 1.71. Dominance values(Simpson index) showed highest at June with a value of 0.40 while lowest at September with a value of 0.07 and averaged 0.12. Kungol and Seongjeon compose a high similarity habitats with a similarity value of 0.52 and it was 0.17 at Kungol and Youngsan, lowest cases. Reservoir banks played a important role for habitats of specific species. It can be considered that they provide an open space of glass land for butterfly population, which was deficient at mountain area.

Vegetation Disturbance of Korea during the Pre-Chosun Dynasty Period (조선시대 이전의 식생 간섭사)

  • Vegetation disturbance history of the Korean Peninsula from the Palaeolithic Age to the Koryo Dynasty (1392) has reconstructed by the use of various data sources. Active vegetation disturbance, which has begun during the Neolithic Age, seems to be more widespread on lowland and coastal areas in the early stages, but later expanded into inland areas. The ploughing of a field and the selective cutting of certain trees, such as oak trees, nettle trees and pine trees are noticeable, and eventually caused deforestation during the Bronze Age. The use of iron tools of the Iron Age has enabled the forest clearing to develope the dry fields. During the Three Kingdoms period (BC 57∼AD 918) extensive deforestation has maintained for the development of cultivated fields, as well as other activities, such as timber, lumbering, production of iron farm implement, ploughing by cattle. The encouragement of disafforestation on mountain slope and creation of terraced field during the Koryo Dynasty (918∼1392) has caused the deforestation over the country, along with the consumption of large amount of wood and timber for fire-wood, ship-building, mining, xylography and so on.
