Purpose: The least constrained prosthesis is generally recommended in primary total knee arthroplasty (TKA). Nevertheless, a varus/valgus constrained (VVC) prosthesis should be implanted when a semi-constrained prosthesis is not good for adequate stability, especially in the coronal plane. In domestic situations, however, the VVC prosthesis could not always be prepared for every primary TKA case. Therefore, it is sometimes impractical to use a VVC prosthesis for unsual unstable situations. This study provides information for preparing VVC prostheses in the preoperative planning of primary TKA through an analysis of primary VVC TKA cases. Materials and Methods: This study reviewed 1,797 primary TKAs, performed between May 2003 and February 2016. The reasons for requiring VVC prosthesis and the preoperative conditions in 29 TKAs that underwent primary TKA with a VVC prosthesis were analyzed retrospectively. Results: In primary TKA, 29 cases (1.6%) in 27 patients (6 male and 21 female) used VVC prosthesis. Two patients underwent a VVC prosthesis on both knees. The mean age of the patients was 63.4 years old (34-79 years). The mean flexion contracture was 16.2° (-20°-90°), and the mean angle of great flexion was 111.7° (35°-145°). The situations requiring a VVC prosthesis were severe valgus deformity in 10 knees, knee stiffness requiring extensive soft tissue release in 10 knees, previously injured collateral ligaments in five knees, and distal femoral bone defect due to avascular necrosis in four knees. The mean tibiofemoral angle was 25.7° (21°-43°) in 10 cases with a valgus deformity. The mean flexion contracture was 37.5° (20°-90°), and the mean range of motion was 48.5° (10°-70°) in 10 cases with knee stiffness. Conclusion: The preparation of VVC prosthesis is recommended, even for primary TKA in cases of severe valgus deformity (tibiofemoral angle>20°), stiff knee (the range of motion: less than 70° with more than 20° flexion contracture), and the cases with a previous collateral ligament injury. This information will help in the preparation of adequate TKA prostheses for unusual unstable situations.
When the columns of existing RC structures are repaired with FRP composites, the core concrete of the columns is confined by both materials of steel spirals (or steel hoops) and FRP composites because the FRP composites wrap the existing columns which have been already confined with steel spirals or hoops. As the stress-strain curves of steel and fiber are different to each other, the behavior of concrete columns confined with both steel spiral and FRP composites is also different to that of concrete columns confined with only steel spiral or FRP composites. Twenty four RC cylinders were tested in order to observe the behavior of RC cylinders confined with both materials. The observed results of the test showed that the behavior of the test cylinders confined with both materials was quite different to that of cylinders confined with only one material.

To apply the flux-lock type superconducting fault current limiter(SFCL) into power system, its current and voltage ratings are required to increase. Especially, in case of series connection of SFCLs, the countermeasure for simultaneous quenches must be considered. The structure, which each flux-lock type SFCL unit was wound in series on the same iron core, can induce the simultaneous quench of superconducting elements. Through the fault current limiting experiment for the suggested structure, it was confirmed that the even voltage burden among the superconducting elements comprising SFCLs could be made.

The flux-lock type SFCL consists of transformer with primary and secondary windings connected to a superconducting element in serial. It can be divided into the subtractive and the additive polarity windings according to the winding direction. It could change the fault current limiting characteristics according to the inductance ratio between the coil 1 and coil 2. We investigated the voltage-current characteristics of the flux-lock type SFCL according to the increment of applied voltage. When the applied voltage of the SFCL with the subtractive and the additive polarity windings was increased a initial limiting current ($I_{ini}$) and the quench time of the superconducting element were increased. The recovery time of the superconducting element was increased by increment of applied voltage. Therefore, it was confirmed that recovery characteristics in the flux-lock type SFCL were largely dependent on the consumed energy of a superconducting element because of increment of the consumption power into the superconducting element.

We investigated the current limiting and the recovery characteristics of a flux-lock type superconducting fault current limiter(SFCL) according to the winding directions. The flux-lock type SFCL consists of two coils. The primary coil was wound in parallel to the secondary coil through an Iron core, and the secondary coil was connected with the superconducting element in series. We have changed the winding direction of coils to compare the resistive type SFCL with the flux-lock type SFCL. The current limiting and the recovery characteristics were dependent on the winding direction. The quenching time in the additive polarity winding was faster than that of the subtractive polarity winding or the resistivity type. A consumed energy in a superconducting element was represented as $W= VIt=I^2Rt$. We found that there was a difference in the consumed energies in accordance with winding types because of differences in voltages imposed on a superconducting element in accordance with a winding direction.
For the design of compression anchor, three things should be considered. The first is a resistance force by skin friction, the second is a tension strength of tendon, and the third is a compressive strength of grout. Especially, compressive strength of grout is the most important design parameter of compression anchor. When compression anchor is pulled out from the ground, the compressive strength of grout increases by confining pressure of ground($\sigma_{tg$). Here, $\sigma_{tg$ is the confining pressure which is produced by earth pressure at rest and by lateral expansion of grout. We call this phenomenon of increase of confining pressure "poisson effect". In this paper, the design method of compression anchor called SSC anchor and the computer program for the design are developed through compression tests of anchor body grout.ody grout.

Volume of concrete slab changes by variations of temperature and moisture after its placement. Shrinkage due to evaporation causes tensile stress in the slab when contraction of the slab is restrained by its self weight, friction with subbase, and etc. Actual tensile stress caused by the shrinkage was less than theoretically predicted stress according to previous studies. It was the stress reduction due to visco-elastic property of the early-age concrete slab partially restrained. In this study, strains of restrained circumferential, unrestrained circumferential, and unrestrained square pillar concrete specimens were measured to investigate stress reduction of the specimens with age of concrete. Elastic modulus of the concrete was measured at the age of 1, 3, 7, 14, 28 days and penetration test was performed. The stress reduction was calculated by input the test results into theoretical equations suggested by previous researchers. The stress reduction of the restrained concrete specimens will be applied to design of concrete pavements based on results of the study.
