  • When consumers choose healthy foods, they base their buying decisions on health-related food labeling and quality assessment of taste, health, and price. Moreover, both purchase experience and opinions of family and friends affect consumer choices. Focusing on these points, this study examined the effects of health-related food labeling on consumer choices by adding two variables-quality assessment of taste, health, and price and purchase experience-to the model of the theory of planned behavior. We also used structural equation modeling to test our hypotheses. In the study, health-related food labeling includes organic labeling, nutrient claims, and food additive labeling. We conducted a mail survey among 300 married women who buy cheese slices for their children more than once a month. It was discovered that health-related food labeling positively affected the level of quality assessment of taste, health, and price, and consequently led to positive attitudes and purchase intentions. Particularly, health-related food labeling positively influenced attitude toward using products without assessing the quality of taste, health, and price. The level of quality assessment of price positively affected attitude toward using and purchasing products, and purchase experience positively affected attitude toward using and purchasing products, and purchase intentions. The relationship between attitude to purchasing products and purchase intentions was the most positive, and the relationship between perceived behavioral control and purchase intentions was not significant. Overall, this study essentially contributes to the development of a theoretical framework of food labeling and consumer choices, which includes quality assessment of taste, health, and price and purchase experience, by using the theory of planned behavior.

  • This study tested how impulse buying behavior for apparel was related to hedonic consumption and impulse buying tendencies and emotion in the context of shopping. A total of 290 self-administered questionnaires were obtained from college students during scheduled classes. A structural equation model using a correlation matrix with maximum likelihood was estimated for examining the relationships among consumer tendencies of hedonic consumption and impulse buying, positive emotion, and impulse buying behaviors by LISREL 8.53. Findings showed that impulse buying behaviors for apparel could be classified into planned, reminded, and fashion-oriented impulse buying typologies. Hedonic consumption and impulse buying tendencies had significant effects on positive emotion. Positive emotion had a significant effect on planned, reminded, and fashion-oriented impulse buying for apparel. This study suggests that positive emotion plays an important role in determining impulse buying behaviors relevant to hedonic and impulse buying tendencies. Managerial implications for apparel retailers are discussed.

The overall repurchase intention was M=3.73 and SD=0.80. In correlations among value consciousness, purchase behavior and repurchase intention, positive correlations were confirmed (p<0.01). In terms of the influence of value consciousness on purchase behavior (aesthetics, conformity, effectiveness), 'aesthetic-pursuit factor' was the largest. In the effects of value consciousness on the economic aspect of purchase behavior, 'materialistic factor' was the highest. • This study focused on the idea that consumers who are dissatisfied with their body form tend to be more interested in weight control behavior. This research connects this relationship with consumers' risk perception on the internet and consequent decision hesitation behavior. Empirical results extracted three factors of weight control behavior: diet, physical treatment, and medication and exercise. Weight control behavior was different by gender but not by age. Consumers who were dissatisfied with their body form were likely to do exercise, but other types of dissatisfaction (weight dissatisfaction and height dissatisfaction) were not significantly related to weight control behavior. Weight dissatisfaction influenced perceived size risk significantly when shopping online. Diet, physical treatment, and medication had significant influence on perceived size risk when shopping online. Perceived size risk had significant influence on decision delay and offline switch behavior. This study took a convergence approach, which connects consumer characteristics with online shopping behavior.
