  • To investigate the distribution of vascular plants growing in Mt. Taebaeksan, a survey was conducted from April, 2014 to October, 2014. The flora of Mt. Taebaeksan was classified as a total of 406 taxa comprising of 79 families, 238 genus, 352 species, 4 subspecies, 43 varieties and 7 forma. Among them, 8 taxa were identified as endemic plants in Korea including Salix koriyanagi Kimura, Aconitum pseudolaeve Nakai, Anemone koraiensis Nakai, etc. 16 taxa of Korean rare plants species were identified including 4 taxa in the degree of VU (Asplenium spinulosum (Maxim.) Milde, etc.) and 12 taxa in the degree of LC (Clematis koreana Kom., Eranthis stellata Maxim., Aristolochia manshuriensis Kom., etc.) The floristic special plants were a total of 107 taxa which consist of 3 taxa in degree V(Polypodium virginianum L., etc.), 14 taxa in degree IV(Asplenium otophorum (Miq.) Koidz., etc.), 31 taxa in degree III (Abies nephrolepis (Trautv.) Maxim., etc.), 32 taxa in degree II(Lycopodium chinense H.Christ, etc.) and 27 taxa in degree I(Dryopteris crassirhizoma Nakai, etc.). For the naturalized plants, 16 taxa were identified (Fallopia dumetorum (L.) Holub, Rumex crispus L., Cerastium glomeratum Thuill). Also, the percentage of urbanization index was 5 %, and the naturalized plant index was 3.9 % respectively.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the distribution of vascular plants in Mt. Daedeukbong. The study is significant because surveying the flora of old-growth forest in Mt. Daedeukbong is a way of understanding what kind of plant species exist in DMZ as the geographical characteristics of Mt. Daedeukbong adjacent to Korean DMZ have the role of a buffer zone connecting the DMZ and its southern region. We collected the vascular plants 7 times from May 2015 to May 2017 and found a total of 393 taxa consisting of 84 families, 245 genera, 341 species, 4 subspecies, 43 varieties and 5 forms. The observed rare plant species as designated by Korea Forest Service were 8 taxa, and the endemic species were 6 taxa. 44 taxa were listed as specific plant species based on phytogeographical in the investigated area. 23 taxa were recorded as naturalized plants, and the naturalized rate and urban index were 5.3% and 8.7%, respectively.

  • In this study, we investigated the flora of Jeonggwangsan Mt. (Yongin, Korea) from May of 2015 to September of 2016. Through 14 independent field investigations, we identified a total of 367 taxa of vascular plants, including 89 families, 234 genera, 323 species, six subspecies, 34 varieties, and four formae. Eight taxa were endemic to Korea, while 27 were naturalized in Korea. Nineteen taxa were the floristic regional indicator plants in Korea: four in Rank VI, four in Rank III, two in Rank II, and nine in Rank I. A total of 59 taxa were designated as controlled Korean biological resources, requiring special permission for export to outside countries. Two taxa were listed on the Red List of Korea, including one Near Threatened (NT) taxon (Hololeion maximowiczii Kitam.) and one Least Concern (LC) taxon (Iris minutoaurea Makino).

  • This study was conducted to investigate the vascular flora of two outstanding forest wetlands(OFW) in Goheung-gun, Jeollanam-do, and to prepare an efficient management plan for forest wetlands through comparison with previous studies. Fieldwork was conducted seasonally from May to October 2023, The flora in the two OFW located in Goheung-gun, Jeollanam-do, consisted of 117 taxa such as 55 families, 92 genera, 108 species, 7 variants, 1 variety and 1 hybrid. The endemic plants were 4 taxa and rare plants were 7 taxa. Floristic target plants were V class 2 taxa, IV class 6 taxa, III class 8 taxa, II class 4 taxa and Iclass 21 taxa. Climate change adaptation plants were 10 taxa and naturalized plants was 1 taxa. Obligate wetland plants were 16 taxa, Facultative wetland plants 10 taxa and Facultative plant 4 taxa. OFW functioning a typical wetland ecosystem in Goheung-gun had been providing habitats for a variety of rare plants, such as the Habenaria radiata and Drosera rotundifolia. But those ecosystems would be suffering a critical disturbance such as human interference, the invasion of naturalized plants, and change of wetland function through landization for a short future. Therefore we suggest those OFWs should be designated as a Forest Genetic Resource Reserve in order to keep the ecosystems permanently and to manage them more soundly and efficiently.

  • This study was conducted to investigate the flora of Sonjukdo Island(Yeosu-si), Korea. From results of four field surveys from April 2023 to October 2023, we identified 483 total taxa, representing 440 species, seven subspecies, 35 varieties, and one hybrid. They were placed in 322 genera and 109 families, including 249 taxa newly recorded in this study. Among them, four taxa were endemic to Korea, four taxa were IUCN red list plants, and 22 taxa were climate sensitive indicator plants. Floristic target plants amounted to 99 taxa, including two taxa of grade IV, 41 taxa of grade III, 10 taxa of grade II, and 46 taxa of grade I. A total of 54 taxa of alien plants were identified, with a Naturalized Index of 11.2% and an Urbanization Index of 13.8%. Three plants disturbed the ecosystem. The flora of this surveyed area belongs to the south-coast province among floral provinces of the Korean Peninsula. Our results provide basic data on vascular plants flora, plant species diversity, and distributional changes.
