We examined 5120 individuals aged 40 to 64 years who participated in the Seventh Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey. Multivariate logistic regression analysis was performed with adjustments for demographic variables and health status. This analysis revealed significant associations between needs for scaling and the following: current smoking, no visits to dental clinics, current drinking, non-oral checkups, and non-use of oral care products. As a result of a subgroup analysis, significant factors differed according to gender. As a result of this study, needs for scaling were associated with identified health behaviors and findings about health behaviors that are effective for maintaining and promoting periodontal health in middle-aged people were confirmed.

We examined oral condition and conducted the survey about students' awareness of oral health and behavior in the middle school located in JeonJu. As the results of oral examination, dental caries and malocclusion were higher in female students and periodontal disease was higher in male students (p < 0.038). There was no significant difference in awareness of oral health between male and female students. However, M = 4.08 out of 5 point scale, which was high. For oral health behaviors, female students (M = 4.508) was higher than male students (M = 4.257) in the question of 'I visit the dental office when my gums are bleeding'. Female students (M = 4.547) was higher than male students (M = 4.333) in the question of 'I use the dental floss after brushing my teeth'(p<0.05). Awareness of oral health gave the significant effect on the oral health behavior at 95 % confidence level. Therefore, the education for oral health behavior is required to improve oral health and studies are needed to present the development of program for awareness and knowledge of oral health affecting behavior.

  • This study aims to determine the effect of e-cigarettes on oral health by investigating the association between the use of different tobacco products and oral health among Korean adults aged 19 years and older. Data from the 2017 Community Health Survey were used for the study. Respondents were divided into four groups: non-smokers, cigarette smokers, e-cigarette smokers, and users of both products. A sample of 228,357 respondents was selected for analysis. Twenty-four questionnaires with missing values (non-response or refusal) were excluded from the sample. A regression analysis was performed with oral as the dependent variable. A multivariate regression analysis showed a significant difference between cigarette smokers and users of both products when compared to the non-smokers. However, e-cigarette users showed a significant when the variables were correlated with age and gender. There was no significant difference in other dependent variables in a multivariate regression analysis. The results of the study indicated no association between e-cigarette use and oral health. More research is needed on factors such as amount and intensity of e-cigarette use.

  • The occurrence of toothache signals the malfunction in oral health, which allows the detection of any abnormal condition in the oral cavity at an early stage to prevent the condition from worsening, and thus can act as a preventive measure. This study has looked into the status of oral health management in relation to toothache through the structured survey administered to 235 college students. Based on the survey results, this study aimed at comparing the toothache occurrence prediction between regression analysis and CART model in order to clarify the relationship between the factors of oral health management habits that contribute to toothache occurrence. According to the result, there was a difference between the present health status and the health status of the past year depending on the presence or non-presence of toothache occurrence (p<0.05). There was a difference in the regularity of meal time depending on the presence non-presence of toothache occurrence from the dietary habits of the research subjects (p<0.05). As for the presence or non-presence of toothache occurrence from the oral hygiene habits of the research subject, there was a difference between the occurrence and nonoccurrence of bleeding during brushing or flossing (p<0.05). According to the results of regression analysis, no factors were signifiant in the relationship with the presence or non-presence of toothache occurrence from the status of life habits and oral hygiene habits. 70% of the researched group was randomly selected as the sample for generating an analytical model and the remaining 30% was used as the sample for generating an evaluation model. According to the results of CART model, the occurrence of toothache was higher in the case of irregular meal time and poor current health condition than the case of average or satisfactory health condition. The above results imply that CART model is very useful technique in predicting toothache occurrence compared to regression analysis, and suggests that CART model could be very useful in predicting other oral diseases including toothache.

Visual impairment may cause many problems in various behaviors for protecting health which have recently drawn a lot of interests. As a method of analysis of collected data, this study conducted the frequency analysis of general characteristics and oral health behavior of the subjects, compared the average of oral public health behavior and oral health condition through t-test and F-test, and conducted the post verification of significant difference among groups with Duncan. For identifying the relevancy between the general characteristics and the oral health behavior, this study conducted Spearman's correlation analysis, and for identifying the impact on subjective, oral health condition, this study conducted multiple regression analysis. SPSS (SPSS20.0 for Windows, SPSS Inc, USA) was used as a statistical program, and the level of significance for determining statistical significance was considered at the level of 0.05. Because the visually impaired are the group whose behaviors for protecting health should be accurately recognized, this study intends to utilize the findings as basic materials for making information communication media suitable for the visually impaired by identifying the real conditions and behaviors of their oral health and analyzing their oral condition caused by such behaviors. With the help of information technology.
