Survey on the Knowledge Level of Oral Health and Prevention Behaviors of some College and University Students (일부 대학생의 구강건강지식도 및 예방행태에 관한조사)

  • The purpose of this study was to obtain basic data for improvement about oral health education, contents and method for college and university students. A question was used 10 questionnaire by 332 college and university students in the Tae gu-city and Gu mi-city. In conclusion, 1. They answered that dental caries cause is 'No-brushing'(88.3%). The man respondents answered that the cause of periodontal disease is 'weak disease'(39.2%). 2. The reason about visit to dental clinic is 'for treatment'(72.0%) and they answered that the tooth is 'very important in their life'(82.5%). 3. They answered that the frequency of tooth-brushing is 'two times in a day'(44.8%) and using auxiliary oral hygiene material is 'dental floss' by male(15.2%) and female(16.6%). 4. In the case of high oral health knowledge level showed high response rate about level of oral health attitude and oral health recognition.

A Study on the Oral Health Awareness and Behavior of Lower Graders in Elementary School (초등학교 저학년 학생의 구강보건에 관한 인식 및 행동)

  • This study was performed to collect basic data for the development of effective oral health education program of lower graders in elementary school. The subject in this study were 704 first-year, second-year and third-year in Hyoje elementary school. The authors collected the tissue where dental caries involved. the possibilities of dental caries prevention. cariogenic food and noncariogenic food. time and frequency of toothbrushing. size of using toothbrush, intake frequency of cariogenic food and the experience with visiting dental clinics, the purpose of visiting dental clinics and fear for dental treatment. The collected data were analyzed. The finding of this study were as follows: 1. Twenty-four percent of students had not correct understanding about the tissue which dental caries are involved. Eleven percent of students thought that it was impossible to prevent dental caries. 2. Sixty-four percent of student brushed their teeth before going to bed, and 63.0% of responded students brushed their teeth twice or more a day. Seventy-eight percent of students used small toothbrush. and there was a Significant difference of size of using toothbrush among the first, second and third graders(P<0.01). Sixty-nine percent of students intake cariogenic food once or more a day. 3. Eighty-six percent of students had experienced with visiting denial clinics. sixty-two percent of students visited dental clinics when they had a toothache. and there was a significant difference of the purpose of visiting dental clinics among the first. second and third graders(P<0.01). Seventeen percent of students responded that dental treatment is fearful there was a significant difference of fear for denial treatment among the first, second and third graders(P<0.05). 4. It was recommended that effective oral health education programs should be developed to increase toothbrushing after breakfast, to decrease intake frequency of cariogenic food, to increase frequency of visiting dental clinics regularly, and to reduced fear for dental treatment.

The Efficiency on the Oral Health Training of Elderly Adults at Welfare Institutions (노인복지센터 이용노인의 구강보건교육 효율성)

  • The purpose of this survey was to evaluate the efficiency on the oral health training of elderly adults who have experienced the oral health training program at welfare institutions in An-yang city, Korea. A total of 451 adults (aged 65 or more) were selected and surveyed by the self-reporting questionnaire that consist of 4 items and socio-economic general characteristics (gender, age). Oral health indices were produced by using the SPSS. The percentage of perceived oral health status that felt poor or very poor was decreased about 8.5% than before and the frequency of perceived oral symptom was decreased too and the practice rate and satisfaction with oral health training was significantly increase than before. Oral health promotion of the elderly adults at welfare institutions in An-yang city should focused on the constant attention the means of the preventive oral health training program.

  • In this study, perceived oral health survey of factors affecting the level of analysis, and oral disease prevention and oral health improvement program for providing the basic information needed to develop community health promotion and aims at improving the quality of life Placed. The study period, 2010 January 2 to February 22 for adults and Yeungnam area surveyed as follows. Subjective oral condition is very bad as the 40.4% response rate was the highest. There were missing teeth in 41.3%, 61.5% had prosthetic teeth. 57.5% had dental caries, periodontal disease and 38.6% who were not parents to get dentures fitted by petitioner was 41.3%. The level of oral health knowledge, oral health is a good side, the prosthetic teeth and TMJ or no characters were higher than other groups. Oral Health Practice is a good side of the level of oral health status, and prosthetic teeth were the characters each. Eating Patterns is a good side of the level of oral health, dental caries, those who can not or do not have TMJ and the characters were higher than other groups.

Research into Some Company Workers' Awareness of the Hygiene of the Mouth and their Practice of It (일부 직장근로자들의 구강건강에 대한 인지도 및 실천도에 관한 연구)

  • This research aims to investigate into company workers' general characteristics and their awareness of the hygiene of the mouth and practice of it, in order to prepare schemes to improve the hygiene of their mouth. The findings of the research are listed in the following: First, the workers have a high level of awareness of the effect of tooth-brushing to prevent periodontal diseases but a low degree of awareness of its effect to prevent decayed teeth and of the necessity of mouth hygienic supplies. Second, they have a high level of awareness of the necessity and importance of scaling, but most of them do not have their teeth scaled periodically. To repeat, they have a high level of awareness of the necessity of dental examination, but not many of them put such awareness of theirs into practice. Third, married workers have a higher level of awareness of the hygiene of their mouth than unmarried ones do. The higher concern they have about the hygiene of their mouth, the more awareness they have of the hygiene of their mouth. Fourth, the higher monthly average income they have, the more frequently they put into practice their awareness of the hygiene of their mouth. And the poorer hygiene of their mouth they have, the more strongly they put into practice their awareness of the hygiene of their mouth.

Oral health education on recognition and their prevalence of dental caries comparative analysis of some primary school pupils' in Buckjeju-gun (북제주군 일부 초등학교 학동들의 구강보건교육에 관련된 인식도 및 영구치 우식경험도 비교 평가)

  • This study has been conducted with continuous dental sanitary education for primary school pupils for five years from 1997 through 2001, based on data obtained from a 97' survey on primary school pupils' recognition on dental hygiene education and their permanent dental health capacity. Following results were drawn through comparative analysis of data obtained during the survey period. Approx 70.77% of the examinees have experienced decay missing feeling (DMF) in the year 2001, suggesting a good effectiveness of dental hygiene education compared with 92.1 % of DMF rate in 1997. It has been found that pupils' knowledge and recognition on dental hygiene and management, etc were improved, as well as their eating habits and consciousness were changed. Comparative analysis of annual DMF showed that DMF rate, DMFT index, and DT rate were found to decrease every year, suggesting a improved dental health capacity. Grade level analysis revealed that DMFT index and DT rate were found to decrease every year during the survey period, suggesting pupils' dental management and consciousness were improved and changed. It has been found that DMF rate more significantly increased in a higher grade in 2001 than 1997. There was no difference in DMF rate between grades of primary school in 1997. However, in the year 2001 increment of approx 10% of DMF rate were observed in a higher grade.

A study relationship between dental health perception and practice of college students (대학생들의 구강보건인식과 행위 간의 연관성에 대한 연구)

  • Objectives : The purpose of the study was to provide the development of oral health promotion programs for the college students to improve oral health behavior. Methods : Subjects were 350 college students in Gyeonggi-do and Gangwon-do from March to June, 2011. Except 9 incomplete copies, 341 data were analyzed. Results : 1. The college students got a mean of 4.08 in oral health awareness, and 3.54 in oral health care. 2. The correlation coefficient of the two was 0.618. Higher oral health awareness led to oral health care improvement (p<0.001). 3. Oral health awareness made a 38.1% prediction of oral health care. A rise of one score in oral health awareness was concurrent with a rise of 0.532 score in oral health care. Conclusions : Higher oral health awareness led to oral health care improvement, and that those who received oral health education tended to have higher awareness and care for oral health care.

  • 비보건계열 대학생들을 대상으로 치과위생사 의료인화 정책에 대한 찬반의견을 조사하였다. 비보건계열 대학생들은 의료인, 의료기사의 구분에 대한 인식 수준, 치과위생사 업무에 대한 인식 수준이 낮았고, 40%의 응답자가 치과위생사 의료인화 정책에 찬성하였다. 치과위생사를 단순히 의료인으로 편입시키는 정책보다는 치과의료와 관련된 법률을 제정한다거나 치과위생사 직업의 단독법을 제정하는 등 국민구강건강을 향상시키는 데 바람직한 체계가 무엇인지 다양한 시각으로 모색할 필요가 있다.

The Oral Health Perception and its Related Factor by the Patients in Metropolitan Area (수도권 거주환자의 구강건강인식과 그 연관요인)

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze the effects of dentistry users' perception of concern about oral health on their perception of oral health and behaviors. For this purpose, the researcher sampled the outpatients who had used 2 dentistries in Kangnam, Seoul and another 2 dentistries in Kangbuk, Seoul and a hospital attached to a dental college in Bundang, Kyonggi-do and thereby, conducted a self-administered questionnaire survey from April 4 through 28, 2006. 291 responses from the survey were analyzed using the SPSS 12.0 statistical program. The results of this study can be summarized as follows; 1. 45.0% of the patients perceived that their oral conditions were not healthy, 32% thought normal for their oral conditions and 23% felt healthy for their oral conditions. 2. Less women (44.1%) felt healthy for their oral conditions than men (46.3%). 3. The more negative patients' perception of their oral health was, they were more likely (55.1%) to rely on relatives for choice of a dentistry. 45.0% of this group worried about their oral health always, 15.1% were more or less worried, and 11.9% of them felt that their oral health was good(P < 0.05). 4. 66.0% of the subjects worried about their oral health sometimes, and 27.8% of them worried always, and 6.2% worried little. There was no significant gender difference, but the older they were, they worried more always(P < 0.05). 5. 93.8% of the group who worried about their oral health always had ever had their teeth scaled, and 65.8% of them had regularly had their teeth scaled. Such ratios differed significantly from the group who worried about their oral health sometimes (49.7% and 46.2%, respectively). The three groups differed in terms of regular checks significantly: 56.6%, 45.3% and 33.3%, respectively. And the rate of visiting the dentistry without fail was significantly highest (71.6%) in the first group (P < 0.05).
