  • The purpose of this study was to examine the toothbrush bristles' wear index and wear rate used by preschool children to provide information on the establishment of criteria for toothbrush replacement cycle for preschool children. One thousand twenty-two toothbrushes were collected from September 20 to November 16, 2012 was analyzed. The findings of the study were as follows: 1. As a result of analyzing the toothbrush wear index, 48.5% of the collected toothbrushes was above 0.400, and the average wear index was $0.421{\pm}0.239$. 2. As a result of analyzing the wear rate of the toothbrushes, score 2 and 3 accounted for 70.4%, and the average wear rate stood at $1.936{\pm}0.848$. 3. As a result of analyzing the state of toothbrush management, the most common average toothbrush replacement cycle was one or two months (63.9%). Concerning the method of toothbrush replacement, the largest group (52.7%) replied they changed toothbrushes based on the abrasivity of toothbrush bristles, and 16.7 percent did that at the request of parents. Given the above-mentioned findings of the study, preschool teachers and parents should be educated to ensure the successful management of preschool children toothbrushes. In addition, it's required to set evident criteria for the right toothbrush replacement cycle for preschool children, and how to provide oral health education in an efficient way should be considered as well.

  • The Status of oral health and dental prosthetic treatment in Daegu and Gyoung Buk area was examined. To investigate the correlation between factors such as demographic and socioeconomic characteristics and status of oral health and knowledge about oral preventive measures, a survey was performed. After analyzing the effects of knowledge levels about dental prosthetic treatment on the oral health status and preventive measures, following results were obtained. A Total of 625 people participated in the survey for three months from October 2007 to January 2008. The responses from the survey were then analyzed to assess whether those with less knowledge of preventive measures tended to have more dental prosthetic work. Of those that took part in the survey: ${\cdot}$ 30.2% were in their twenties ${\cdot}$ 56.2% were married ${\cdot}$ 51.4% of respondents had at least a college degree ${\cdot}$ 42.4% had monthly incomes below one million Won ${\cdot}$ 24.3% were students ${\cdot}$ 55.8% were from urban areas After studying the relationship between oral health and various demographics, researchers concluded that respondents' sex, income, job and place of residence had no effect on the overall status of their oral health. However, those that were divorcees or widows (1.95${_+}/{_-}$ 0.32), over the age of 70 (1.67${_+}/{_-}$0.31), or had little education (0.82${_+}/{_-}$0.28), all demonstrated a statistically significant effect on their oral health with a significance level of 0.05.Cross analysis revealed a p-value of 0.000. The correlation between knowledge of oral preventive measures and other factors was examined. No difference was found between men and women but people who were divorced or lost their spouse, people over the age of 60, and people with no education, the results of knowledge of oral preventive measure was poor as 1.74$\pm$0.44, 1.85$\pm$0.40, 1.85$\pm$0.44,and 1.60$\pm$0.47 separately. Cross analysis showed that p-value was 0.000 and correlation between knowledge of oral preventive measures and those factors were statistically significant at significance level of 0.05. The status of dental prosthetic treatment was investigated. Women, people with higher income, and married people had more dental prosthetic treatment and it was related to education, income, residential area, and the status of dental prosthetic treatment. The returns of those factors was 32.7%. Respondents$^{\circ}{\emptyset}$ oral hygiene status and knowledge of oral preventive measures was related to demographic or socioeconomic factors. Therefore, a preventive program for oral health care needs to be developed in advanced countries. Knowledge of oral health is below the international average and more research and effort needs to be put in to develop public knowledge of dental prosthetic treatment. Government intervention such as enacting an oral health initiative or dental insurance that covers prosthetic treatments is urgently needed.

The questionnaires used in this study consisted of 4 items for general information, oral health status of 2 items, 5 items for Oral hygiene knowledge and actual condition of oral care of 5 items. Collected data were analyzed by Frequency Analysis t-test and Crosstabs using SPSS(Statistical Package for Social Sciences) Win 19.0 statistics program. Results: Regarding general characteristics of the subjects, there were 53.8% of first-year student, 26.0% of second-year student and 20.2% of third-year student among 52.3% of males and 47.7% of females. The subjects received less than "100,000" won(13.0%), "100,000-190,000" won (5.0%), "200,000-290,000" won(30.9%), "300,000-390,000" won (33.2%) and more than "400,000" won(17.9%) a month for an allowance. The subjects had 'none' (44.3%), '1'(6.5%), '2'(12.6%), '3'(5.0%), '4'(5.3%), 'more than' 5(0.8%) of dental caries and 'do not know' were 25.6%. The numbers of dental prosthetics were 'no' (35.5%), '1'(13.7%), '2'(17.2%), '3'(10.3%), '4'(11.5%), and 'more than 5'(11.8%). The public health students(84.8%) had a higher positive response rate than the non-public health students(66.2%). The public health students(80.2%) had a higher negative response rate than the non-public health students(78.5%) in the result of onset of gum disease pain awareness. The non-public health students(65.5%) had a higher negative response rate than the public health students(68.3%)) in the result of heredity of gum disease. The t-test showed that public health-related department students(M=8.264, SD=0.821) had more knowledge about oral hygiene than non-public health-related department students(M=8.015, SD=1.082). 'do not use' in the oral care products except toothpaste and toothbrush showed that public health-related department students(60.4%) use the products more than non-public health-related department students(66.2%). Conclusion: In this study, public health-related department students had higher oral hygiene knowledge and actual condition of oral care compared to non-public health-related students, but low in practical action. Due to the lower level of dental care products use in non-public health-related department, a continuous oral care education program is required.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the state of the dental health of adults, used self-reporting qestionnaire as objects of 923 residents living in nine districts at random among the sites of eleven town located in a County. The level of knowledge on dental health of adults in a County was 65.6 points out of 100 points, comparatively low. Accodingly, it is necessary for entire adults to have a dental health-related education and get high standard of knowledge. Especially, educational approach should be performed for groups of 40-49 years old, 50-59 years old, above 60 years old, male, no educational background, having only elementary and middle school education, not having any jobs, engaging in agriculture, doing business on their own and so on. When planning the contents of health education, one actually has to include the habit of amalgam, the factor in influencing on dental health as well as show an example such as how to brush teeth, checking point of proper brushing, how to grip toothbrush. The attitude score related to dental heath was 71.2 points out of 100 points, relatively low. Consequently, the change of attitude related the dental health among entire adults is necessary, particularily, the strategical approach is essential to change dental health connected to attitude positively for groups of male, having high school education background, office workers and the civil service. Besides, among dental health related symtoms, more that 30-40% of objects showed negative attitude toward as the following cases; in case that plaque or food debris are attached to the teeth (40.8%), upper and lower teeth do not fit together(40.3%), you cannot sleep well because of toothache(31.0%), more than one tooth fall out(31.0%), you have loosing teeth(30.6%), the approach should be conducted to form attitude that dental care is necessry. The state of dental health through dental health related symtoms was 33.3 points out of 100 points, which was fairly satisfactory. However, dental treatment for the state of dental health should be executed in case of comparison of the dental health state according to general characteristics, the group who are above 60 years old, have elementary school education background, engage in aggriculture who are not good in dental health state as opposed to other groups. Furthermore, there should be dental care needs according to dental health related symtoms, particularly, more than 60-70% of objects have experienced symtoms that plaque or food debris attached to the teeth, tartar is on the teeth so dental treatment should be peformed for a large number of adults. In addition, for the people who have indications that there was a cavity, more than one tooth loss, chilled teeth, toothache when chewing, loose teeth, upper and lower teeth do not fit together, you cannnt sleep well due to the toothach, etc, there should be care through dental treatment. The actual conditions of the hygine of the mouth was relatively good and the difference of the actual state of dental health care in terms of general characteristics showed in only gender; female was more careful in dental health. Comparing the state of oral health synthetically, when they have symtoms, only 34.8% of objects go to a dentist, 60.7% are using passive or negative care such as gargling, tolerating or ignoring. There was many symtoms to care through dental therapy such as plaque or food debris get in between the teeth, tartar on the teeth, teeth are very cold, more than one tooth fallout, loose teeth, there is wrong amalgam, and so on, among symtoms to care passively or negatively. Therefore the education for proper treatment program should be performed. As a result of dental health-related knowlege, attitude, health state, verification of correlation between the actual condition of care, the higher the dental heath-related knowldege becomes, the more positive the dental health-related attitude is, and the state of dental health, that is, the standard of the symtom of dental health diminishes. the care for dental health executed through more active method and the more positive dental health-related attitude is, the more active means they performed. Consequently, the high level of dental health-related knowledge should be necessary, the more positive the dental health-related attitude was, the more active method they adopted, therefore, the program is needed to form attitude related to the dental health positively. As the knowledge on dental health is increasing, the attitude is also positive, after all, the plan to increase the standard of knowledge on dental health should be contrived through education program related to dental health.
