Oral health is a critical factor for diagnosing overall health, as poor oral health has a negative impact on food intake and results in deterioration of nutritional status. The purpose of this study was to research the needs for food developments for the elderly based on their oral and overall health status. Oral status was significantly associated with self-reported health status, and dry mouth (lack of saliva) especially showed a significant relationship with negative self-perception of both oral and overall health. For both elderly men and women, fish and leafy vegetables were the most preferred side dishes. Bread, rice cake, and beverage-type foods were also preferred for snack development. Disease status of the elderly was significantly related with their preference for food development. For instance, those with diabetes were more likely to ask for anti-diabetic diets. The most important factor for the elderly in choosing food was nutritional balance, and less than 3,000 won was cited as an affordable price. The results could be utilized as basic data to develop foods for the elderly.

This study examined the relationship between the oral health knowledge of infants and the oral health management of their mothers. The participants were 198 mothers living in D city. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, Pearson's correlation coefficients with the SPSS/PC 20.0 program. The results revealed oral health to be a serious problem, and that a visit to a dentist regularly is important. The relationship between the oral health awareness and the confidence that can keep cavities from children did not show significant progress on any topic. A relationship was observed between oral health knowledge and confidence in children who visit a dentist once a year, and a negative correlation between the first visit times and the effects of fluoride on the teeth. The relationship between oral health awareness and mothers' confidence when their children felt a toothache was better when they visited a dental clinic and their knowledge about infant food and beverages without sugar improved. The results of this study can be used to improve the program for the mother's oral health knowledge and effective management in children's education.

The purpose of this study was to examine the oral health knowledge and oral health practice of teachers in early childhood education institutions. The subjects in this study were 169 teachers who worked in early childhood education institutions. After a survey was conducted, the collected data were analyzed with a SPSSWIN 14.0 program. The findings of the study were as follows: 1. Concerning oral health knowledge, they got a mean of 7.97(9), 2.66(3), 2.86(5), 2.42(5) and 1.04(2) respectively in knowledge on dental caries, toothbrushing, periodontitis, fluoride and diet. Overall, they got a mean of 16.98 in 24 items, and the score corresponded to approximately 70 out of 100 points. 2. As for oral health practice, tongue cleaning(4.22) was what they did the most to take care of their oral health, and they just got 2.60 in regular dental checkup. Overall, they got about 3.11 in oral health practice. 3. Regarding relationship between general characteristics and oral health knowledge, the teachers who were in their 30s got 17.47 in overall oral health knowledge, and those with a career of five to less than 10 years got 17.50. The teachers who received college or higher education got 17.27, and the principals got 18.26. Those who had ever received education on oral health got 17.01. But the gaps between them and the others were not statistically significant. 4. As to connections between general characteristics including age and oral health practice, restricted sugar intake, regular dental checkup, the use of oral hygiene supplies, tongue cleaning and overall oral health practice were more prevailing among the older teachers, and the gaps between them and the younger teachers were statistically significant. 5. In terms of relationship between oral health knowledge and oral health practice, there was no statistically significant relationship between the two on the whole, but better oral health knowledge led to better oral health practice in each part. This study shows that various oral health education programs for the kindergarten teachers should be developed and continuous education through the programs is important to improve the knowledge of oral health and to change oral health behavior.

Diagnosis and treatment planning is initial step to fabricate removable partial denture, and one of most important factor influencing the prognosis. Partial edentulous patients have various condition of remaining teeth and oral mucosa. Therefore, for the proper diagnosis and treatment planning for each patient, getting many informations from patients during initial examination and fabricating accurate diagnostic cast are required. Especially, because the use of various diagnostic tools and surveying of diagnostic cast will be a guide for the abutment teeth selection, oral preparation and design of partial denture, dentist should understand and be able to apply this procedure during diagnosis.
This study aims to find a program that may positively contribute to the promotion of periodontal health. The investigation is performed with 201 periodontal disease patients visited to denial hospitals and the anonymous self-filling survey. The result shows that Significant variables influential to the quality of life related to the oral health are revealed to be he awareness on periodontal diseases, the oral hygienic product, the sleep amount and the age. Therefore, it is considered that consultations suitable to each patient condition are required to define the criticalities of stress management capacity and responsive measure.
The purpose of this study was to identify effective ways to prevent periodontal disease in adults with risk factors for metabolic syndrome based on health examination examinees of some area. The study participants included 9,902 subjects who had received health checks at the Korea Association of Health Promotion from January 1 to December 31, 2014. All data were analyzed by descriptive statistics, chi-square test, logistic regression using IBM SPSS 24.0 Ver. As a result, it was found that regular oral examination (0.579), use of oral products (0.499), and oral health education (0.358) are most likely to affect the incidence of periodontal diseases among those affected by metabolic syndrome. The odds ratio of periodontal disease increased 1.79 times without regular oral examination, 1.61 times without oral products, and 1.43 times without oral health education (p<0.001). In conclusion, the results suggest that people with metabolic syndrome have a high risk of periodontal disease and that regular checkups, use of oral products, and oral health education are very important to prevent periodontal disease.
In this study a research was conducted with 108 adolescents sent to three reformatories in D city to investigate their recognition of oral health so that they could assess their knowledge of oral health and improve oral health through correct oral health education. For this purpose, after the primary survey from June 13 to 28, 2006, oral health education was implemented through audio-vidual teaching aids and tooth-brushing training using one toothbrush per person, followed by the secondary survey using the same questionnaire. The research obtained the following results. 1. As for recognition of the concept of dental caries, the answer that it was a disease developing on teeth increased from 75.0% before oral health education to 82.4% after the education, which showed statistically significant differences (p < 0.001). 2. As for recognition of a preventive agent for dental caries, the answer that it was fluorine increased from 34.3% before oral health education to 75.0% after the education, which showed statistically significant differences (p < 0.001). 3. As for recognition of a good tooth-brushing method, the answer that it was a rotating method increased from 21.3% before oral health education to 95.4% after the education. 4. As for recognition of the amount of time for tooth-brushing, the answer that it was three minutes increased from 58.3% before oral health education to 88.9% after the education, which showed statistically significant differences (p < 0.001). 5. As for recognition of effects of smoking on oral health, the answer that it was bad increased from 65.7% before oral health education to 93.5% after the education. 6. As for recognition after oral health education for improving oral health, "completely agree" (78.7%) comprised the largest percentage (p < 0.001) for "teeth are important for health"; "completely agree" (76.9%) comprised the largest percentage (p < 0.001) for "correct tooth-brushing serves to prevent an oral disease"; "completely agree" (37.0%) comprised the largest percentage (p < 0.001) for "scaling is necessary to prevent a gingival disease"; "completely agree" (77.8%) comprised the largest percentage (p < 0.001) for "non-smoking is good for dental health"; "completely agree" (62.0%) comprised the largest percentage (p < 0.001) for "a seasonal medical check-up should be taken by all means".

It has been suggested that people who suffer from impaired masticatory function may adapt food consistency to their oral status (which may lead to deficient nutrient intake) or rely on the digestive system to compensate for the lack of oral preparation of food (which may increase the likelihood of digestive diseases and decrease gut absorption). Masticatory deficiency thus may be detrimental to health. This article reviews evidence of the effects of masticatory deficiency on nutrition. The selection of relevant literature was based on Medline queries using the following key words: mastication, nutrition, digestion, diet, and disease risk. Earlier work not listed in Medline but related to the subject also was reviewed. Only publications available in English were selected for inclusion. It is difficult to draw conclusions from many of the reviewed studies due to issues related to study design, confounding variables, and the subjective nature of the measurements. In particular, data supporting a link between masticatory function and deficient dietary intake often are based on relatively weak correlations and cannot confer a causal relationship.
