This study aims to understand the relationship between the awareness of oral health prevention and general characteristics by investigating the awareness of oral health prevention and to provide basic data to make oral health education guidelines for oral health prevention and the need for oral health prevention by analyzing factors that influence the awareness of oral health prevention. For about a month since December 2016, the data of 380 people aged 10 and over residing in Seoul and the Gyeonggi Province was gathered, and the following results have been obtained after excluding 19 people whose answers were insufficient. It was found that gender (female, p<0.05), age (50 years and over, p<0.05), educational background (high school diploma and university diploma or higher, p<0.05), average monthly income (KRW 3.0 million - 4.0 million, p<0.05), oral health importance (p<0.001), and awareness of the need for oral health prevention (p<0,001) among the selected independent variables had statistically significant effects on the awareness of oral health prevention. Considering the results above, I believe that it is important to develop oral health education programs, which reflect the characteristics of people in order to motivate them to perform prevention activities, rather than education programs about simply acquiring knowledge for prevention activities and to establish social conditions that can enable continued education, in order to increase the awareness of oral health prevention activities.
The occurrence of toothache signals the malfunction in oral health, which allows the detection of any abnormal condition in the oral cavity at an early stage to prevent the condition from worsening, and thus can act as a preventive measure. This study has looked into the status of oral health management in relation to toothache through the structured survey administered to 235 college students. Based on the survey results, this study aimed at comparing the toothache occurrence prediction between regression analysis and CART model in order to clarify the relationship between the factors of oral health management habits that contribute to toothache occurrence. According to the result, there was a difference between the present health status and the health status of the past year depending on the presence or non-presence of toothache occurrence (p<0.05). There was a difference in the regularity of meal time depending on the presence non-presence of toothache occurrence from the dietary habits of the research subjects (p<0.05). As for the presence or non-presence of toothache occurrence from the oral hygiene habits of the research subject, there was a difference between the occurrence and nonoccurrence of bleeding during brushing or flossing (p<0.05). According to the results of regression analysis, no factors were signifiant in the relationship with the presence or non-presence of toothache occurrence from the status of life habits and oral hygiene habits. 70% of the researched group was randomly selected as the sample for generating an analytical model and the remaining 30% was used as the sample for generating an evaluation model. According to the results of CART model, the occurrence of toothache was higher in the case of irregular meal time and poor current health condition than the case of average or satisfactory health condition. The above results imply that CART model is very useful technique in predicting toothache occurrence compared to regression analysis, and suggests that CART model could be very useful in predicting other oral diseases including toothache.

This study was carried out in order to be used as basic data in developing oral health program for adolescents hereafter by surveying which influence it has upon oral health knowledge and recognition depending on students' subjective oral health status targeting middle school students. First of all, examining about students' subjective oral health status, the 2nd graders accounted for 36.2% depending on school year, thereby having been indicated to be high in response as saying of being healthy in own teeth. It was indicated that the higher level of brushing teeth after lunch at school leads to the higher response as saying of being healthy in own teeth(p<0.05). The group with response as saying of healthy in own teeth was indicated to be higher in regularly visiting once or twice a year as the period of visiting dental clinic, and was indicated to be higher(p<0.001) in a visit for oral check-up even as for the aim of visiting dental clinic than other groups. Accordingly, the aim is to offer an opportunity of motivation that students will have interest in oral health, by carrying out continuously oral health education, and is also to increase knowledge and awareness level on oral health by allowing them to have positive attitude toward oral health.

The purpose of this study was to examine the oral health behavior and awareness of teachers in community children's centers, the state of oral health care among children in the centers and the opinions of the teachers on child oral health education in a bid to gather information required for the development of oral health education programs geared toward community children's center teachers. The subjects in this study were 178 teachers who worked in 98 community children's centers in the city of Incheon. After a survey was conducted from April 28 to June 4, 2010, the collected data were analyzed. The findings of the study were as follows: The 57.3% of the teachers investigated provided toothbrushing guidance from time to time or couldn't do it at all. As for the reason why toothbrushing guidance was scarcely conducted, the largest group cited shortage of sinks(27.5%) as the reason, and the second biggest group replied they couldn't afford to pay attention to that due to heavy workload(20.6%). The third greatest group was pressed for time(16.7%). The teachers got a mean of 3.27 in oral health behavior, and 87.7% were concerned about children's oral health. The group of teachers who ever received oral health education was significantly better at oral health behavior and showed significant more interest in oral health(p<0.01). The 97.2% of the respondents considered oral health important. Concerning the reason, they replied it was crucial for systemic health (74.2%). The 89.4% of the teachers viewed child oral health education as necessary, and 86.5% had an intention to provide oral health education for children. They hoped to receive education on the oral health control act(4.52) and the prevention of dental caries(4.40). The above-mentioned findings confirmed that in order to step up the oral health promotion of child users of local children's centers, it's necessary to provide secondhand education for them through their teachers who have a great impact on them. Therefore the development of oral health education programs that cater to local children's center teachers is required.
Objectives: The COVID-19 outbreak has resulted in changes in the instructional methods used in kindergartens and daycare centers to prevent viral infections. This study aimed to investigate the changes in oral health care for children before and during COVID-19 and the perceptions of kindergarten and daycare center teachers about oral health care. Methods: The study subjects were 189 teachers of kindergartens and daycare centers in charge of children aged 3 to 5. The data for the analysis were collected through an online survey. Frequency analysis and the chi-squared test were used for statistical analysis. Results: Compared to before COVID-19, the frequency of tooth brushing after lunch, the number of oral health education and regular oral examinations, and the rate of childcare teachers' experiences with oral health education had decreased during COVID-19. In addition, educators in kindergarten and daycare centers responded that an oral health officer at a public health center was the most desirable oral health educator. Conclusions: During the COVID-19 pandemic, the oral health care of children in kindergartens and daycare centers has declined. Efforts are needed to restore it by educating people about oral hygiene care and oral health education, both at home and in kindergartens and daycare centers.

The purpose of study was to evaluate the amount and the accuracy of oral health care information in childcare books. Thirty five Korean childcare books were selected and analyzed. Twenty eight(80%) books contained information about oral health care and the average amount was 4.8 pages(1.2%). Among those books, the book that a dentist wrote the content and the book that was given advice from a dentist were one(3.6%) and one(3.6%), respectively. The eruption time and sequence of deciduous teeth and the toothbrushing method were described in 96.4% and 82.1% of those books. The books which contained the other oral health care contents were less than half. Three(10.7%) books contained inaccurate contents. Therefore, dentist should give oral health care information to parents more actively. And it seemed to be necessary to study other information sources like magazines, TV programs, internet resources, and education programs by health centers and department of obsterics.

Oral health is a critical factor for diagnosing overall health, as poor oral health has a negative impact on food intake and results in deterioration of nutritional status. The purpose of this study was to research the needs for food developments for the elderly based on their oral and overall health status. Oral status was significantly associated with self-reported health status, and dry mouth (lack of saliva) especially showed a significant relationship with negative self-perception of both oral and overall health. For both elderly men and women, fish and leafy vegetables were the most preferred side dishes. Bread, rice cake, and beverage-type foods were also preferred for snack development. Disease status of the elderly was significantly related with their preference for food development. For instance, those with diabetes were more likely to ask for anti-diabetic diets. The most important factor for the elderly in choosing food was nutritional balance, and less than 3,000 won was cited as an affordable price. The results could be utilized as basic data to develop foods for the elderly.
