  • This study aims to measure oral health knowledge and practice level among dental clinic patients, and examine their relationships with decayed, missing and filled teeth (DMF) index and the oral health-related quality of life (QOL). Empirical data have been collected from 311 patients through structured questionnaires and dental examinations conducted in Busan area. According to the analysis of causal relationship, oral health knowledge turned out to have a direct effect on oral health practices, which exerted both direct and indirect effects on DMF index and oral health-related QOL. While DMF index directly affected the oral health-related QOL, oral health knowledge proved to have only an indirect effect on DMF index and oral health-related QOL, mediated by oral health practices. Considering all these findings, effective oral health education and other intervention programs should focus on motivating people to participate in the active practices of desirable oral health behaviors, which will lead to the prevention of oral diseases and the subsequent improvement in the QOL.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the knowledge of university students on oral cancer, their attitude toward it and their belief about it. The subjects in this study were sophomores and juniors who majored in dental hygiene in Gyeonggi province. The findings of the study were as follows: (1) As for knowledge on oral cancer, 63.3 percent acquired it from school, and just 32.2 percent were aware of how to prevent oral cancer. And they looked upon operation as the best way to treat oral cancer. (2) With regard to attitude toward oral cancer, 45.4 percent had interest in oral cancer. (3) In relation to oral cancer belief, poor oral environments were cited as the first cause of oral cancer, and 91.3 percent felt oral cancer was one of serious diseases. And the majority of the respondents believed that it's possible to prevent and cure that disease, and regular oral examination was considered most important to prevent it. (4) As for correlation between dental health and oral cancer belief, they thought there was a weak positive correlation between the two. Those who were more concerned about oral health were more interested in oral cancer, and those respondents found oral cancer to be more grave. Their concern for oral health had a statistically significant relationship with their interest in oral cancer and their perception of its gravity.

  • Objectives: The purpose of this study was to determine if self-rated oral health differed according to self-reported oral health behaviors in Korean adolescents. Methods: The raw data of 'The 6th Youth Health Behavior Online Survey' carried out by the Korea Center for Disease Control and Prevention were analysed. Independent t-test, one-way ANOVA, and Logistic regression analysis were used to assess the relationships between oral health behaviors and self-rated oral health (n=73,238). Results:Oral health behaviors had stronger influence on daily toothbrushing habits. In particular, participants who brushed their teeth in the morning and participants who brushed their teeth more than 3 times a day were more likely to have good self-rated oral (P<0.001). Conclusions: Korean adolescents with high self-rated oral health reported practicing good oral health behaviors. These results highlight the need for the further practicable oral health education programs.

A survey was performed of 100 subjects selected from 5 industrial companies located in Chungcheongbuk-do through simple random sampling method from January 19 to 23, 2018, using the questionnaires. The data collected from the survey were analyzed with frequency analysis, independent t-test, and multiple regression analysis by using the SPSS 18.0 statistical program. The results showed that the affective factors of oral health had an influence on oral health behaviors and that the influence on quality of oral health life was greater when the oral health practice intention was stronger. Based on aforesaid results, effective oral health programs, conducive to bringing changes to the affective factors of oral health, would need to be developed in order to enhance oral health behaviors and quality of oral health life in industrial workers.
