A Study on the Signal Progression System for the Disaster Prevention of Traffic Facilities - A case study of Dong Moon Ro in Kwangju City - (교통시설 재해방지를 위한 신호체계 연동화에 관한 연구 - 광주시 동문로를 중심으로 -)

  • The most influential facility causing traffic disaster on the urban road is intersection. Accordingly, this study elected a region for case study from seabang three-way junction, partial section of Dongmoon Ro in Kwang-Ju city, to the intersection of Mudeung Library Entrance. It is believed that the signal progression is very effective on the basis of short interval of intersection and massive traffic volume. The signal progression was simulated by using TRANSYT-7F model. The following is summary of the simulation: According to the change of cycle length, P.I. delay and fuel consumption showed the tendency of being increased in case that cycle length becomes long or short, centering around the best cycle length. In the event of progressing the cycle length, the average speed per vehicle is increased by 11.39Km per hour and P.I value is improved by 40.65% so that it resulted in 42.86% improvement in the total travel time. Moreover, the fuel consumption in line with the progression practice produced fuel saving of 31.04%.

  • Density is applied both three major macroscopic traffic variables (traffic volume, speed, and density) and two measures of effectiveness (MOE) for level of service (LOS) on highway (density and V/C). Especially, it is known for the most accurate MOE on evaluating the LOS of highway. Despite such importance, there is a lack of study on density relatively than other variables for its difficulty of measurement. Existing density estimation methods have some limitations such as density values of same traffic flow vary with collecting time. In this study, we researched actual density measuring method with panoramic image, after each CCTV images in the Sapaesan Tunnel on Seoul Ring Expressway are matched into one panoramic image. Analysis through the Central Limit Theorem shows that density of 24 1 km-images, which means 24 second, applies traffic situation well. That is to say that reasonable density value regardless of collecting time, and practical density which represents actual traffic flow can be taken in case of measuring density by suggested collecting cycle.

  • 신호교차로 교통사고는 90년대 이후 도시가 발달하고 산업이 고도화됨에 따라 교통 혼잡 문제와 함께 심각한 사회문제로 대두되고 있다. 특히 신호교차로의 교통사고는 인적요인, 차량요인, 환경적 요인 등이 복합적으로 작용하여 발생하는데, 교통량의 집중과 도로의 기하구조, 운전자 과실 등이 교통사고의 주요 인자로 작용하고 있다. 본 연구에서 교통사고 예측모형을 개발하기 위해서 2003년부터 2006년도까지 실제 경기도의 신호교차로에서 발생한 교통사고자료를 기초로 하였다. 구체적으로는 시내가 아닌 지방부 성격을 지닌 일반국도를 대상으로 하였다. 지방부 일반국도의 신호교차로 교통사고 분석에 단순통계분석과 다중회귀분석을 사용하였다. 사고와 관계가 높은 신호주기, 방향별 접근 교통량, 회전교통량 둥과 같은 도로, 교통, 운영조건들로 변수를 정하여 교통사고 예측모형을 도출하였다. 본 연구에서는 도로조건, 교통조건, 운영조건들과 사고와의 관계를 이용하여 경기도 일반국도의 신호교차로 교통사고예측모형을 개발하였고, 이는 지방부 성격을 지닌 교차로에 적용이 가능하다고 판단된다.

Link Travel Time Estimation Using Uncompleted Link-passing GPS Probe Data in Congested Traffic Condition (혼잡상황에서 링크미통과 GPS 프로브데이터를 활용한 링크통행시간 추정기법 개발)

  • Data for travel information Provision are regularly aggregated to Provide travel time information in a reliable and convenient manner and to manage traffic data and information efficiently. In most of practices in Korea, the GPS based travel time data are mainly aggregated every 5 minutes As a result, some probes can't pass by a link within aggregation interval and thereby create uncompleted link passing data. But these data are mostly generated during the congested times and therefore a method that uses such uncompleted link passing data are required. This study estimated queue dissipation length, green time and cycle that use GPS spot speed and developed a link travel time estimation method using such uncompleted link passing data. It also presents method and the overall process of using such data to estimate link travel time in a more accurate manner. As a result, MAPE 1.98% and MAE 4.75 sec of link travel time accuracy improvement has been reported, which is not much different from the real link travel time. The method Proposed here would be an alternative to increase the amount of GPS probe data, especially in congested urban arterial case.

가변교통상황 제어를 위한 분산교통신호 제어 에이전트의 설계

  • 본 논문은 시간 혹은 주변의 상황에 따라 가변적으로 변화하는 교통량을 스스로 파악하여 효과적으로 제어할 수 있는 에이젼트를 설게하고 가상 실험을 하여 기존의 고정식 신호등과 비교 평가하였다. 대부분의 교통 신호등은 교통량의 변화에 능동적으로 대응하지 못하고 미리 설정해 놓은 시간에 따라 각 방향의 신호를 주고 있기 때문에 교통량의 변화에 적절히 대응하지 못하고 있다. 또한 급작스런 교통상황의 변화에 대응 할 수 없다. 이러한 문제점을 해결하기 위해 DTCA(Distributed Traffic Control Agent)가 설계되었다. DTCA는 교차로의 교통정보를 수집하여 신호등을 제어한는 정보로 활용하고, 인접 교통제어 에이젼트와 교신한면서 최적의 신호시간과 신호주기를 결정한다. DCTA는 시간대별, 요일별 교통과 통계를 수집, 분석한 데이터를 기초로 하고 현재 교통량을 동적으로 수집 그리고 주변의 상호제어 에이젼트와 정보를 교환하여 비정상적인 교통흐름을 대처할 수있다.

A Study on the Relationship of NGO and Government in Mass Transportation Policy (대중교통정책부문에 있어서 NGO와 정부간 역할관계에 관한 연구)

  • 최근 NGO의 급격한 성장과 위상이 높아지면서 정부정책과정에서의 NGO와 정부간 역할관계는 각 분야에서 활발하게 논의되고 있다. 그럼에도 불구하고 교통분야에 대한 NGO와 정부간 역할관계에 관한 관심이나 연구가 매우 미흡한 실정이다. 이와 같은 배경에서 수행된 본 연구는 현재 열악한 대중교통서비스를 개선하기 위해서 NGO와 정부간 정책연대 등 새로운 정책운용의 필요성을 제시한 탐색적 연구이다. 본 논문의 분석결과, 우선 대중교통정책 운용은 ‘공급자중심’에서 ‘이용자중심’으로 전환되어야 한다. 이를 위해서는 ‘서울시를 비롯한 자치단체들이 NCO와 정책연대를 통해 정책추진에 시민의견을 적극 반영하는 제도적 장치가 강구되어야 한다. 구체적으로는 서울시의 경우 교통·환경·소비자 등 관련분야의 NGO와 서울시 및 의회관계자, 전문가, 업계대표 등이 참여하는 가칭 ‘대중교통시민위원회’를 구성한다. 또한 지방자치단체는 대중교통 전반의 서비스 개선목표와 단계별 세부추진사항을 결정, 헌장으로 제정하고 이를 토대로 대중교통정책의 집행과정과 성과를 주기적으로 평가하고 시정 조치할 필요가 있다.

  • The accuracy of a video image detector(VID) is gradually reduced due to the various environmental and mechanical factors. But there has been no systematic research about this VID accuracy decreasing. To maintain a proper level of VID accuracy for the advanced traffic management. a regular VID calibration process needs to be introduced. Because of its cost, however. the calibration cannot be performed frequently. Therefore, the method to decide the optimal calibration interval should be studied in details. This study presents two different calibration interval decision methods. Using the invented data collection equipment. some data in the field were collected and analyzed. which were used for the adaptability checking. Although the data were limited. the result is pretty promising. More data needs to be investigated later and this study will help to maintain the data quality of the ITS center.

Development of a Cycle-free Based, Coordinated Dynamic Signal Timing Model for Minimizing Queue-Lengths (Using Genetic Algorithm) (대기차량 최소화를 위한 주기변동기반 (Cycle-free based) 동적 신호시간 결정모형 개발)

  • This Paper documents the development of a cycle free based, coordinated dynamic signal timing model for minimizing queue lengths using Genetic A1gorithm. The model was embodied using MAT-LAB, the language of technical computing. A special feature of this model is its ability to manage queue lengths of turning movements at the start of green times. The model produces a cycle-free based signal timing(cycles and green times) for each intersection to minimize queue lengths of turning movements on the cycle basis. Concurrently, appropriate offsets could be accomplished by applying cycle-free based signal timings for respective intersections. The model was applied to an example network which consists of three intersections. The result shows that the model produces superior signal timings to the existing signal timing model in terms of managing queue lengths of turning movements.
