A Study on the Introduction Criteria of Turbo Roundabout by Considering Approach Lane's Traffic Volume (접근로별 교통량을 고려한 터보형 회전교차로도입 기준에 관한 연구)

  • A turbo roundabout is a type of roundabout that allows vehicles to pass through the roundabout without changing lanes by separating the internal lanes. Thus, it has the advantage of minimizing conflicts arising from converging, diverging, and lane changing in existing two-lane roundabouts. In this study, the criteria for introducing a turbo roundabout are suggested by considering traffic volume conditions of the approach lane, and the results were analyzed using a VISSIM. The results showed that the 2-lane roundabout and basic(turbo) are the appropriate types when the approach traffic volume is a balanced condition with 2,000-2,600veh/h. On the other hand, basic(turbo) and egg(turbo) are appropriate types when the approach traffic volume is an unbalanced condition with 2,400-2,800veh/h under the condition of a major road grouped as an opposite combination. The major road is grouped as an adjacent combination when there is an approach volume of 2,000-2,400veh/h, and the knee(turbo) is the appropriate type in this case.

  • 전자교통신호등은 차량이 교차로에 많을 때에는 교통신호주기를 연장할 수 있고, 교차로에 차량이 적을 경우에는 교통신호주기를 단축할 수 있다. 그러나, 요즈음과 같이 교통체증이 많아서 평균주행속도가 10Km-20Km일 때에는 전자신호등의 기능을 수행할 수 없다. 본 논문에서는 퍼지 규칙을 이용하여 최단경로검색 및 최적 녹색시간 알고리즘을 제안한다. 컴퓨터 모의실험결과 앞 막힘 현상이 발생하는 경우에는 평균 승용차 대기시간 및 평균주행속도를 10%-32% 가량 개선시킬 수 있음을 입증하였다.

Panoramic Navigation using Orthogonal Cross Cylinder Mapping and Image-Segmentation Based Environment Modeling (직각 교차 실린더 매핑과 영상 분할 기반 환경 모델링을 이용한 파노라마 네비게이션)

  • Orthogonal Cross Cylinder mapping and segmentation based modeling methods have been implemented for constructing the image-based navigation system in this paper. The Orthogonal Cross Cylinder (OCC) is the object expressed by the intersection area that occurs when a cylinder is orthogonal with another. OCC mapping method eliminates the singularity effect caused in the environment maps and shows an almost even amount of area for the environment occupied by a single texel. A full-view image from a fixed point-of-view can be obtained with OCC mapping although it becomes difficult to express another image when the point-of-view has been changed. The OCC map is segmented according to the objects that form the environment and the depth value is set by the characteristics of the classified objects for the segmentation based modeling. This method can easily be implemented on an environment map and makes the environment modeling easier through extracting the depth value by the image segmentation. An environment navigation system with a full-view can be developed with these methods.

A Study on Active Priority Control Strategy for Traffic Signal Progression of Tram (트램의 연속통행을 위한 능동식 우선신호 전략 연구)

  • Recently, our local governments are conducting the introduction of tram system because it is recognized as an effective public transit that can solve a traffic jam in downtown, decreasing public transit share and environmental issues in world wide cities. We developed the Active Priority Control Strategy to efficiently operate a tram in our existing traffic signal system. This study organized the tram system for operating the Active Priority Signal Control, developed the algorithm that calculates a tram-stop dwell time in order to pass the downstream intersection without a stop. The dwell time is determined by arrival time at tram-stop, downstream signal time, and the location of a opposite tram, it can be reduced by choosing the optimal one among Signal Priority Controls. Using the VISSIM and VISVAP model, we conducted a simulation test for the city of Chang-won that it is expected to install a tram system. It showed that a developed signal control strategy is effective to prevent a tram's stop in intersections, to reduce a tram's travel time.

Cross-rotating Multi-copter (교차회전 멀티콥터)

  • To improve an aerodynamic characteristic of the eVOTL aircraft, Korea Aerospace Research Institute (KARI) performed a validity test of the cross-rotating propeller technology. First, CFD analysis was carried out and an idea of the cross-rotating propeller to imply on a multi-copter confirmed with a commerce pitch control multi-copter that has two different blades, 0.11 and 0.21 m. After verifying the idea, a multi-copter with about 3 kg maximum take-off weight (MTOW) was custom designed to complete a ground test to measure thrust and noise. The test was performed with 15 and 22 in. propellers at the identical tip speed. The test results show that the 22 in. propeller with the cross-rotating technology required about 30 % less power and reduced 3~5 dB aerodynamic noise as compared to 15 in. propeller without cross-rotating.

  • There are lots of literature about connected car system from industry and academia. The connected car is a smart car integrated with IT technology that is connected to people, vehicles and traffic management systems. It is important to V2I (vehicle to infrastructure) communication which is the connection between the vehicle and the infrastructure. CIM (cooperative intersection management) is a device to manage the communication between vehicle and infrastructure. In this paper, we analyze two intelligent vehicle control methods using CIM at non-signalized intersections. In the first method, a vehicle to pass through intersection needs to reserve a resource of intersection. In the second method, trajectory patterns on pre-planned vehicles are classified to pass through intersection. We analyze case studies of two methods to be implemented by DP(dynamic programming) and ACO(ant colony optimization) algorithms. The methods can be reasonably improved by placing importance on vehicles or controlling speeds of vehicles.

Removal of Intersected Region for Efficient Transmission of Spatial Objects (공간 객체의 효율적 전송을 위한 교차영역의 제거)

  • Spatial database systems in client-server environment have network overload due to the large amount of spatial data transmission. Users use the window query that loads partial region of a whole map for quick response time in the environment. A series of window query such as screen movement, enlargement or shrinkage requires data in similar region and this increases network overload by re-transmitting the same data in intersected region with the earlier transmitted region. Removing the transmitted data from query results can solve this problem. In this paper, we design and implement a spatial object manager in order to remove the intersected region occurred by a series of window query. The spatial object manager manages the object identifiers of transmitted objects and removes transmitted objects from spatial objects of the query result by using the removal technique of the intersected region for the transmission and comparison. We utilize GEOMania Millennium server, an open client-server spatial database system, as spatial object manager in this paper. The result of the performance evaluation shows that the spatial object manager removes the transmission of the data redundancy, reduces network overload and improves the overall system performance.

  • 텔레비젼 카메라, 비디콘 카메라(vidicon camera), 디지털 검지기, 스캐너 등 물리적 장치로 획득한 영상은 주위의 밝기로 인하여 어두운 영상을 얻거나 영상장치의 물리적 속성과 영상 전송에 기인하여 영상은 열악한 대비를 가질 수 있다. 본 논문에서는 획득한 저대비 영상을 대비 향상시켜주는 기법을 제안한다. 제안된 기법은 K-means 알고리듬을 사용하여 교차점을 자동으로 선정하는 방법을 사용한다. 이 최적의 교차점을 선정하는 과정은 획득한 영상을 물체와 배경으로 분리하는 두 개의 클래스 문제로 보고 K-means 알고리듬을 적용하였다. 구한 교차점을 사용하여 영상을 양분하여 히스토그램 평활화 방법을 적용하였다. 본 논문에서는 퍼지성 지수(index of fuzziness)를 사용하여 향상의 정도를 측정하였다. 제안된 기법을 저대비 영상에 적용하였으며 그 결과를 히스토그램 평활화 기법의 결과와 비교하였다.
