The main purpose of this study was to develop teaching and learning plans and a smart textbook for food and nutrition education in Home Economics focusing on 'healthy diet and meal plans' unit in "Technology home Economics" textbooks for 7th graders to evaluate the effectiveness of the instruction conducted with the smart textbook. The content of the study to achieve the purpose is as follows: First, design a smart education-based teaching and learning curriculum for food and nutrition education in Home Economics, focusing on 'healthy diet and meal plans' unit. Second, develop a smart textbook for food and nutrition education based on the teaching and learning curriculum, using a smart content authoring tool. Third, evaluate the effectiveness of the instruction after applying the curriculum in real classroom situations. The results of this study were as follows: First, teaching and learning plans and materials were developed for two units, 'issues regarding teenagers' diet' and 'implementation of a healthy and balanced diet', under 'teenagers' life'. The first unit, 'issues regarding teenagers' diet', dealt with topics such as teenagers' dietary behaviors, nutrition, and health. Learning objectives for this unit were to help students identify and evaluate their own dietary behaviors. The second unit, 'implementation of a healthy and balanced diet', encouraged students to diagnose problems with their diet and plan nutrient rich meals. The objectives for this unit were to help students implement a healthy and balanced diet by providing them with nutrition and dietary guidelines for Koreans, sample meal plans, and guidelines for developing healthy eating habits for teenagers. In order to develop a teaching and learning plans to achieve these objectives, teaching and learning materials including inquiry tasks, materials for group activities, multimedia, applications and various pop-up learning materials were developed. Second, a smart textbook using DocZoom, which was a smart content authoring tool was developed. The textbook dealt with issues regarding teenagers' diet and implementation of a healthy and balanced diet. Multimedia material used in the textbook come from the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety's food and nutrition education web sites and other sources. To develop student-oriented material, relevant video clips were added to the smart textbook to motivate students and enhance their interest in the course. Third, the outcome of this study indicated that the instruction using teaching and learning plans and learning materials with the smart textbook was effective for enhancing students' interest in Home Economics classes (t-value=-3.99, p<.001), creating enthusiasm for learning(t-value = -2.61, p<.05), encouraging self-directed and independent learning(t-value = -4.77, p<.001), and improving students' interest in food and nutrition courses(t-value = -3.83, p<.001). The students' evaluation of the instruction were as follows: the instruction using teaching and learning plans and learning materials with smart textbooks, instead of paper textbooks, helped them save time looking for learning materials; students evaluated that it was easier for them to see and understand video clips and charts. In addition, most students answered that instruction with smart textbooks were more fun and convenient, and they agreed that the courses enhanced their learning experience.

This paper analyzes the life and culture contents of the primary Korean textbook for female marriage immigrants and investigates ways to improve the textbook organization in future. The study results are as follows: 1. The textbook must reflect the demands of female marriage immigrants as learners that need to adapt to Korean society. 2. The textbook needs to adopt a circulating disposition in organizing such life and culture contents that female marriage immigrants can obtain and utilize while living in diverse life environments 3. The textbook should also provide multi-cultural elements in order to help female marriage immigrants with the internalization of the complex identity between their home countries and Korea.

The purpose of this study is to develop and apply the algorithm teaching materials centered on plays(ATMCP) to improve problem-solving abilities of elementary students. For this goal, the ATMCP were reviewed by the expert group and tested them out on 71 fifth-grade elementary students in Daegu, Korea during the 6 weeks. We divided students into two groups: one is the group of the ATMCP and the other is the group of conventional algorithm teaching materials(ATM). And we analyzed the change of the problem-solving ability of each group between before and after using two types of teaching materials with the Mixed ANOVA. The result showed that there was a significant difference in students' problem-solving abilities between before and after using them and the group of the ATMCP was greater improvement than the group of the conventional ATM in a problem-solving ability.

The present study aims to investigate how teachers evaluate the Korean textbook they use for teaching primary students with multicultural background. Faced with the rich variety of materials available, it is often a challenging task for language teachers to select the most suitable coursebook. It is required that they carry out a detailed and comprehensive analysis of coursebooks and evaluate them with a set of criteria to guide the process. 32 Korean teachers took part in the primary KSL textbook evaluation that aimed to identify improvement areas. They used a pro-forma specified with 51 criteria. The teachers' responses to the questions in the pro-forma were statistically analyzed to draw implications for material evaluation. The findings of the analysis suggest that the KSL textbook for primary multicultural students need to be improved at the internal and external levels. Implications are discussed with focus on material evaluation and development, and KSL teacher professional development by helping them gain good and useful insights into the nature of the textbook, and sensitizing them to features to look for in teaching and learning materials.

This paper is intended as an investigation of 5 sentence patterns which have exerted a strong influence on the English education in Korea. The 'learning grammar', which is defined as the grammar in learning materials, was compared with 'reference grammar' derived from linguistic grammar with theoretical accuracy and validity. Although the notion of 5 sentence patterns has been assumed to be vestiges of old Japan textbooks, the classification system was originally established in 1929 by C. T. Onions. Particularly, new explanations regarding 'obligatory adjuncts' and 'marked construction' were provided in the learning materials, which could be seen as examples of the reflection of linguistic grammar theories on sentence patterns. If reference grammarbooks and the fruits of linguistic grammar research are used actively, material writers can avoid the errors of grammar description and more correct learning grammar can be taught to advanced learners.

In this study, entropy definition and explanation in twelve general chemistry textbooks published in USA including what Korean universities select are analyzed. Analysis consists of two parts. One is diachronic analysis which focuses on the change between editions of same authors and the other is contents analysis composed of three sections‐ disorder in entropy definition and explanation, microstates number in entropy definition and explanation, possibility of alternative conception in learning statistical entropy and thermal entropy. As a result, the definition that entropy is the measure of disorder is denied and explanation using microstates number is introduced. Also, caution for the possibility of alternative conception that there are two different entropies is found. Reflecting the change in entropy explanation on new chemistry curriculum and reeducating teachers are meaningful on improvement of Korean chemistry education.

This study aims to analyze through the integrated textbooks whether writing tasks are designed to be successful in cultivating students' writing abilities in the general-purpose Korean language education. First, we established the concept and the components of the writing task based on the definitions mentioned in previous research. The analysis of the types of writing tasks revealed "free writing" and "imitation and writing" to be the most frequent types of writing tasks in both textbooks. The textbooks have only twenty-one subjects in common. And most instructions provide only themes and genres, excluding the purpose, form, quantity, and time necessary for the article or for comprehending the instructions. In these tasks, the reading passages are most often explanatory text. The scoring criteria and time were not provided for the evaluation criteria and other factors. Therefore it became necessary to express the components of the writing task as explicitly and concretely as possible to improve learners' performances.

초등학교 시기가 올바른 식습관 형성에 중요한 시기임에도 불구하고 체계적인 영양교육을 실시하지 못하는 현실에서 2006년부터 시행되는 영양교사화에 큰 관심이 집중되고 있다. 그러나 현장에서 적극적인 영양교육을 행하기 위해서는 수업확보도 중요한 문제이지만 적절한 교재 및 매체의 개발이 필요하다. 초등학교에 제7차 교육과정이 도입되면서 가장 두드러진 특징 중 하나가 재량활동의 신설 및 확대일 것이다. 그러나 아직 학생들과 학부모의 호응을 얻을 수 있는 다양한 활동으로 구성, 운영되지 못하고 있고, 교재 또한 개발되어 있지 않아 일관된 교육을 제공하기 어려운 실정이다.(중략)
