Studies on The Reutilization of Used School Uniform of Middle and High School Students (중.고등학생의 교복 재활용 활성화에 관한 연구)

  • Purchasing used school uniforms is to reduce environmental pollution and expenses, and to enhance a feeling of wearing satisfaction for school uniforms by improving size fitting. In order to improve reutilization of used school uniforms, uniform purchasing behavior, awareness of the reutilizing markets of used school uniforms, and the running conditions of reutilizing markets of used school uniforms were analyzed through the survey. The subjects are 741 students of middle and high schools in Seoul and Kyeonggi Province in this study. The results are as follows. First, the better-fitted uniforms students wear, the higher satisfaction they feel. Therefore, it is desirable for students to wear the uniforms which are well fitted for each student. Second, the higher aware of environment students are and the more environmental preservation behavior they do, the higher awareness of wearing used school uniforms they are. In order to enhance students' awareness of reutilizing markets of used school uniforms, it is important to educate students about the environment systematically and to promote recycling events. Third, the reasons for not purchasing used school uniforms are difficulty in access to the repurchasing market and the sanitary problem. Therefore, it is suggested that environmental education which boosts students' awareness of environment and reutilization events should be held to make reutilizing markets of used school uniforms vigorous. Moreover, it is necessary to make reutilizing markets easy to access and improve cleaning and repairing system.

The Effect of Environment-friendly Consumption Consciousness, Consumption Behavior and Consumption Value of Adolescents on Attitude of School Uniform Recycling (청소년의 친환경 소비의식, 소비행동, 소비가치가 교복 재활용 태도에 미치는 영향)

  • School uniform recycling has gained increasing attention as one of the solutions for environmental problems and improvement of home economics. The aim of this study is to investigate the effect of environment-friendly consumption consciousness, consumption behavior, and consumption value on attitude of school uniform recycling in adolescents. Using self-completion questionnaire, environment-friendly consumption consciousness, consumption behavior, and consumption value were examined in 426 middle- and high school female students in Seoul and Gyeonggi province. The results are as follows; first, although more than 60% students showed positive attitude for purchasing recycled school uniform, respondents have rarely been purchasing recycled school uniform. Second, environment-friendly consumption consciousness, consumption behavior, and consumption value of students had the significant effect on the attitude of school uniform recycling. Our results suggest that more efforts should be focused on the education of environment-friendly consumption consciousness and consumption behavior.

An Analysis of the Curriculum for School Uniform Recycling Education and the Need for School Uniform Recycling (교복 재활용 필요성과 교복 재활용 교육을 위한 교과과정 분석)

  • The objectives of this study were to investigate the need for school uniform recycling and to review the school uniform recycling-related education. 231 female high school students were asked to answer regarding the wearing state of school uniform and their satisfaction level. 10 subjects in middle school technology/home economy were evaluated. As the result, the students wore 1~2 pieces of school uniform, which showed that it was hard to keep them clean by washing them often. The satisfaction level of school uniform was not high, The lowest item was the price. Therefore, to increase the satisfaction level of the school uniforms and also to increase the sanitary level of the school uniforms, it was advisable to purchase a recycled school uniform at cheaper prices to have an extra set. For a vitalization of the recycled school uniforms, the middle school technology/home economy subjects were reviewed. In the topic of "clothing acquisition plan and purchase", the themes of planned purchase, overconsumption of clothing and environmental pollution were discussed and included preferable behaviors for disposal. The topic of "clothing manufacturing and recycling" listed recycling the clothes that are not worn or exchanging them with neighbors as well as suggesting methods to illicit environment-friendly behaviors and carrying them out. However, some textbooks only briefly explained the methods of recycling and more detailed and practical methods need to be suggested in the curriculum. In addition, the contents regarding the environment in the clothing topic need to be supplemented more and more changes, such as related education plans or data development, are required.
