Recently, the pavement distresses in the bridge deck have seriously affected the durability of bridge deck and driver's safety. The existing asphalt materials have the limitations in reducing the pavement distresses of brides deck. To protect the bridge deck and withstand the high deflection, it is necessary to develop the asphalt materials with good fatigue resistance for bridge deck pavement. The asphalt binder combined with SBS and two other admixtures has been developed for improving the resistance to fatigue cracking, productivity, and workability for bridge deck pavement. Based on the various binder test results, the developed binder is found to be PG 70-34 indicating very higher resistance against fatigue cracking. Fatigue testing, wheel tracking testing, and moisture susceptibility testing have been conducted to evaluate the performance of asphalt mixtures developed in this study. Laboratory test results show that the developed asphalt material has three times higher fatigue lives than the typical modified asphalt mixture. Full scale accelerated testing was also performed on the typical asphalt mixture and newly developed asphalt mixture to evaluate the full scale performance of asphalt mixtures. Test results indicate that the length of cracking on the new materials is only 38% of the typical material at the 250,000 load repetitions.

It is not efficient to install a maintenance system that measures seismic acceleration and displacement on all bridges and buildings to evaluate the safety of structures after an earthquake occurs. In order to maintain this, an on-site investigation is conducted. Therefore, it takes a lot of time when the scope of the investigation is wide. As a result, secondary damage may occur, so it is necessary to predict the safety of individual structures quickly. The method of estimating earthquake damage of a structure includes a finite element analysis method using approved seismic information and a structural analysis model. Therefore, it is necessary to predict the seismic information generated at arbitrary location in order to quickly determine structure damage. In this study, methods to predict the ground response spectrum and acceleration time history at arbitrary location using linear estimation methods, and artificial neural network learning methods based on seismic observation data were proposed and their applicability was evaluated. In the case of the linear estimation method, the error was small when the locations of nearby observatories were gathered, but the error increased significantly when it was spread. In the case of the artificial neural network learning method, it could be estimated with a lower level of error under the same conditions.
In this paper we have attempted to bring the wavelet transform theory to the dynamic response conversion algorithm. This algorithm is proposed for the problem of estimating the displacement data by defining the transformed responses. In this algerian, the displacement response can be obtained from the measured acceleration records by integration without requiring the knowledge of the initial velocity and displacement information. The advantage of the wavelet transform over either a pure spectral or temporal decomposition of the signal is that the pertinent signals features can be characterized in the time-frequency plane. In the response conversion procedure using the wavelet decomposition signals, not only the static component can be extracted, but also the dynamic displacement component can be separated by the structural mode from the identified displacement response. The applicability of the technique is tested by an example problem using the real bridge's superstructure under several cases of moving load. If the reliability of the identified responses is ensured, it is expected that the proposed method for estimating the impact factor can be useful in the bridge's dynamic test. This method can be useful in those practical cases when the direct measurement of the displacement is difficult as in the dynamic studies of huge structure.

Design and construction of long-span bridge are recently increasing by development of computer technology. Specially, cable stayed bridge and suspension bridge having cable component are representative of long-span bridge may do. Therefore, this paper a present a methodology for cable tension force monitoring in cable-stayed bridge under construction using acceleration data acquired by the vibration method. To improve accuracy construction, all stay cables are measured, according to 4-step construction stage and change of temperature.

For analyzing seismic performance of long-span bridge for multi-support excitation and preparing technically and efficiently for a variety of design demands, the new module on multiple excitation was built in a reliable non-linear analysis program(RCAHEST) by using Influence Line Method, and the study on structures was performed previously. Also, the result of the analysis through RCAHEST was compared and verified with commercial finite element analysis program SAP2000 by using the feature of Multi-Support Excitation. From these results, nonlinear time history analysis considering multi-support excitation was studied after designing FE model of Incheon cable-stayed bridge. It was proved that the maximum response of horizontal displacement decreased as the time delay was increasing at all nodes of bridge. And then the serviceability of analysis model was evaluated by performing ultimate analysis under changes in maximum acceleration of seismic load data.

This study investigates the influence of various soil properties on the seismic performance of a three-span FCM bridge. Piers that are vulnerable to seismic vibration are identified through numerical study of plastic hinges possibly occurring at the top and bottom of the piers. The fragility curve is obtained as a lognormal distribution function with respect to peak ground acceleration(PGA). The median and logarithmic standard deviation, which are two parameters of a lognormal distribution function, are estimated using the maximum likelihood method. In order to consider the different soil properties of each support, an equivalent spring based on the Korean Standard Specifications for Highway Bridges(KSSHB) is adopted in this study. For seismic fragility analysis, the rotational ductility demands of bridge piers are used as a damage index of the structure.

Elastometic bearings using flexible rubber materials have recently been widely applied for seismic retrofit of bridges. However, due to various factors, the aging of the rubber material progresses, which causes the shear stiffness change of the bearing, which affects the seismic performance of the bridge. For natural rubber, accelerated heat aging test was performed with variables of heating temperatures and exposure time to analyze shear characteristics. As aging progresses (i.e. increase of temperature and exposure time), the maximum shear stress and shear strain decrease. Also, the shear stiffness is greatly increased at the same shear strain. This means that the rubber material is hardened, implying that the seismic performance of the elastomeric bearing becomes poor.
Purpose: The dynamic behavior of a bridge structure under seismic loading depends on many uncertainties, such as the nature of the seismic waves and the material and geometric properties. However, not all uncertainties have a significant impact on the dynamic behavior of a bridge structure. Since probabilistic seismic performance evaluation considering even low-impact uncertainties is computationally expensive, the uncertainties should be identified by considering their impact on the dynamic behavior of the bridge. Therefore, in this study, a global sensitivity analysis was performed to identify the main parameters affecting the dynamic behavior of bridges with I-curved girders. Method: Considering the uncertainty of the earthquake and the material and geometric uncertainty of the curved bridge, a finite element analysis was performed, and a surrogate model was developed based on the analysis results. The surrogate model was evaluated using performance metrics such as coefficient of determination, and finally, a global sensitivity analysis based on the surrogate model was performed. Result: The uncertainty factors that have the greatest influence on the stress response of the I-curved girder under seismic loading are the peak ground acceleration (PGA), the height of the bridge (h), and the yield stress of the steel (fy). The main effect sensitivity indices of PGA, h, and fy were found to be 0.7096, 0.0839, and 0.0352, respectively, and the total sensitivity indices were found to be 0.9459, 0.1297, and 0.0678, respectively. Conclusion: The stress response of the I-shaped curved girder is dominated by the uncertainty of the input motions and is strongly influenced by the interaction effect between each uncertainty factor. Therefore, additional sensitivity analysis of the uncertainty of the input motions, such as the number of input motions and the intensity measure(IM), and a global sensitivity analysis considering the structural uncertainty, such as the number and curvature of the curved girders, are required.

Recently, as large structures such as high-rise building and long span bridge become lighter and more flexible, the necessity of structural control for reducing excessive dynamic response due to seismic excitation is increased. In this study, a semi-active base isolation system using Magneto-Sensitive (MS) rubbers is proposed to effectively protect structures against earthquakes. MS Rubber is a class of smart controllable materials whose mechanical properties change instantly by the application of a magnetic field. To demonstrate the performance of this device, the MS Rubber isolation system is compared to Lead-Rubber Bearing (LRB) isolation systems and judged based on computed responses to several historical earthquakes. The MS Rubber isolation system is shown to achieve notable decreases in base drifts over comparable passive systems with no accompanying increase in base shears or in accelerations imparted to the superstructure. The proposed MS Rubber system is shown to perform better than the passive isolation system.
To reduce noise inside an elevated railroad station, the vibration of the station structure should be lowered, and to establish more effective anti-vibration measures it is required that, reflecting the track-bridge-structure interaction, the transfer characteristics of vibration induced by a train is well identified. In this paper, the current status of domestic railroad stations is classified, and the vibration transfer characteristics is analyzed via measurement data from representative elevated stations. From the analysis results on the measurement data, in transferring vibration from the track to the structure, remarkable vibration reduction in higher frequency range is observed, and, in some stations, amplified response characteristics in lower frequency range is identified. Also, for stations with floating track system or TPS type, relatively greater reduction in transferred vibration is observed.
