Extraction of Road Structure Elements for Developing IFC(Industry Foundation Classes) Model for Road (도로분야 IFC 확장을 위한 도로시설의 구성요소 도출)

  • Since IFC (Industry Foundation Classes) 4 is based on the representation of 3D elements for an architecture project, and does not define standardized shapes for civil projects such as roads, bridges, and tunnels etc, it has limitations in securing interoperability for exchanging a shape information model for the civil projects. Besides, since road facilities have a linear reference, which is modeled along the center alignment, it is difficult the designers to create a standardized 3D road model. The aim of this study is to configure structure elements and their attribute for a road in the perspective of 3D design for developing a shape information model for the road. To solve these issues, this study analyzes the design documents, which consist of a road design handbook, guide, specifications and standards, and then extract shape elements and their attributes of road structures. Such shape elements are defined as an entity item and we review a hierarchical structure of a road shape defined by a virtual road model. The detailed elements and their attributes can be utilized as a 3D shape information model for constructing BIM (Building Information Modeling) environment for Infrastructures. Besides, it is expected that the suggested items will be utilized as a base data for extending to IFC for a road subdividing the detailed shapes, types and attributes for road projects.

Suggestion and Verification of Assessment model on Construction Cost of Steel Box Girder Bridge in Project Performance Phases (사업 수행 단계별 강박스거더교 공사비 산정 모델 제시 및 검증)

  • To effectively secure and execute the national budget, it is very important to estimate the reasonable construction cost of each process in the construction of public facilities and works. The construction cost is generally estimated at the time when the design of the targeted structures has been completed. Without detailed sectional drawings and with only simple information on bridge structures in the planning stage or in the early design stage. it would be very difficult to predict the approximate construction cost. In this study, a more efficient and appropriate approximate construction cost estimation model in the planning stage and in the early design stage is presented and verified as reliable by analyzing the construction cost data of 61 existing steel box girder bridges from previous studies. The results of this study show that when the construction cost that was predicted using the construction cost estimation model in the design stage was compared with the cost from the conventional standards, the suggested model in this study produced results with a very high confidence level.

Effect of Artificial Changes in Geographical Features on Local Wind (인공적 지형변화가 국지풍에 미치는 영향)

  • The effect of artificial changes in geographical features on local wind was analyzed at the construction site of bridge and fill-up bank in the southern part of Haui-do. Geographic Information System (GIS) data and Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) model were used in this study. Three-dimensional numerical topography based on the GIS data for the target area was constructed for the surface boundary input data of the CFD model. The wind observations at an Automatic Weather Station (AWS) located in Haui-do were used to set-up the model inflows. The seasonal simulations were conducted. The differences in surface wind speed between after and before artificial changes in geographical features were analyzed. The surface wind speed decreases 5 to 20% at the south-western part and below 2% of the spatial average for salt field. There was also marked the effect of artificial changes in geographical features on local wind in the westerly wind case for the target area.

  • Since the opening of the double-track railway for the Gyeongchun local electric train and the semi-high speed train ITX, floating population between Seoul and Chuncheon has rapidly increased. This is attributable to the competitiveness of the railway service in terms of punctuality and safety of operation, mass transportation and low fare. However, many passengers have expressed strong dissatisfaction and displeasure towards the interior noise and its high rate of increase, particularly in tunnel sections. In this study, the interior noise characteristics of Gyeongchun local electric train and ITX were analyzed and compared. Noise levels, frequency spectrum and sound quality indices were compared for the open land, tunnel and bridge. Finally, from the noise levels depending on the location in the vehicle compartment, the noise transmission path was determined and a basic strategy for reducing the interior noise was developed.

  • This paper describes statistical parameter estimation to calculate collision probabilities between Mokpo Harbor Bridge and passing vessels. At first, we obtained AIS (Automatic Identification System) information from passing vessels, then after, analyzed the lateral distributions of vessel tracks and estimated the mean and the standard deviation for the distance away from bridge center, the passing course and the passing speed. The analysis results of track distribution for the distance away and the passing course are shown as normal type, otherwise the speed distribution shown as two kinds of different normal type. In addition, we testified that the usefulness of estimated parameter values through the relative comparison between the track distributions and it's normal probability distributions.

  • In this study, the landuse pattern at the Gab river is analyzed using time-series aerial images. This study area is divided by two zones like as inland and floodplain. To begin with, in inland, the landuse area of items such as residential, road, industrial, public facilities is increased by following the urbanization. On the other hand, the area of the other items such as agricultural, forest and river is decreased. Also, the inclination of those two groups is reversed around 1988. Form the results, it is clarified that the Gab river is urbanized around 1988. In floodplain, the area of river is decreased as time goes by. This result means that the area of landuse factors such as level-upped riverside land, bridge, head work is increased conversely. Also, the proportion of the water to the river considering the hydrologic factor like rainfall is increased as time goes by. Overall, it is concluded that aerial image can be applied to get a landuse information that is needed in river management and planning.

  • Recently, wireless sensor networks are deployed in various applications range from simple environment monitoring systems to complex systems, which generate large amount of information, like motion monitoring, military, and telematics systems. Although wireless sensor network nodes are operated with low-power 8bit processor to execute simple tasks like environment monitoring, the nodes in these complex systems have to execute more difficult tasks. Generally, MAC protocols for wireless sensor networks attempt to reduce the energy consumption using duty cycling mechanism which means the nodes periodically sleep and wake. However, in the duty cycling mechanism. a node should wait until the target node wakes and the sleep latency increases as the number of hops increases. This sleep latency can be serious problem in complex and sensitive systems which require high speed data transfer like military, wing of airplane, and telematics. In this paper, we propose a solution for reducing transmission latency through distributed duty cycling (DDC) in wireless sensor networks. The proposed algorithm is evaluated with real-deployment experiments using CC2420DBK and the experiment results show that the DDC algorithm reduces the transmission latency significantly and reduces also the energy consumption.

  • The corrosion of steel in concrete is significant in marine environment. Marine bridges are readily deteriorated due to the exposure to marine environment. Salt damage is one of the most detrimental causes to concrete bridges and port structures. Especially, the splash and tidal zones around water line are comparatively important in terms of safety and life-time point of view. During the last several decades, cathodic protection (cp) has been commonly accepted as an effective technique for corrosion control in concrete structures. Zn-mesh sacrificial anode has been recently developed and started to apply to the bridge column cp in marine condition. The detailed parameters regarding Zn-mesh cp technique, however, have not well understood. This study is to investigate how much Zn-mesh cp influences along the concrete column at elevated temperature. About 100cm column specimens with eight of 10cm segment rebars have been used to measure the variation of cp potential with the distance from Zn-mesh anode at both 10$^{\circ}$C and 40$^{\circ}$C in natural seawater. The cp potential change and current diminishment along the column specimens have been discussed for the optimum design of cp by Zn-mesh sacrificial anode

  • Load managing method on road became necessary since overloaded vehicles occur damage on road facilities and existing systems for preventing this damage still show many problems. Accordingly, efficient managing system for preventing overloaded vehicles could be organized by using the road itself as a scale by applying genetic algorithm to analyze the load and the drive information of vehicles. First of all, accurate analysis of load using the behavior of road itself is needed for solving illegal axle manipulation problems of overloaded vehicles and for installing intelligent embedded load analyzing system. Accordingly in this study, to use the behavior of road, the transformation was measured by installing underground box type indoor model and indoor experiment was held using genetic algorithm and 10% error were checked.

  • High resolution satellite images have been used for building and road system analysis, landscape analysis, and ecological assessment for several years. However, in high resolution satellite images, shadows are necessarily cast by manmade objects such as buildings and over-pass bridges. This paper develops the shadow extraction procedures in urban area including various land-use classes, and the extracted shadow areas are evaluated by a manually digitized shadow map. For the shadow extraction, the Canny edge operator and the dilation filter are applied to make building edge buffer area. Also, the object-based segmentation was performed using Gram-Schmitt fusion image, and spectral and spatial parameters are calculated from the segmentation results. Finally, we proposed appropriate parameters and extraction rules for the shadow extraction. The accuracy of the shadow extraction results from the various assessment indices is 80% to 90%.
