This paper describes the procedures developing the algorithm for analyzing signals acquired from the Bridge Weigh-in-Motion (BWIM) system installed in Seohae Bridge as a part of the bridge monitoring system. Through the analysis procedure, information about heavy traffics such as weight, speed, and number of axles are attempted to be extracted from time domain strain data of the BWIM system. One of numerous pattern recognition techniques, artificial neural network (ANN) is employed since it can effectively include dynamic effects, bridge-vehicle interaction, etc. A number of vehicle running experiments with sufficient load cases are executed to acquire training and/or test set of ANN. Extracted traffic information can be utilized for developing quantitative database of loading effect. Also, it can contribute to estimate fatigue lift or current health condition, and design truck can be revised based on the database reflecting recent trend of traffic.
A structural reliability analysis of fatigue truck model for fatigue failure of highway steel bridges was performed by applying the Miner's fatigue damage rule expressed as a function of various random variables affecting fatigue damage. Among the variables, the statistical parameters for equivalent moment, impact factor, and loadometer were obtained by analyzing recently measured domestic traffic data, whereas the parameters on fatigue strength, girder distribution factor, and headway factor of the measured data available in the literature were used. The effects of various fatigue truck models, fatigue life, ADTT, fatigue detail category, loadometer, and gross vehicle weight of fatigue truck on the reliability index of fatigue damage were analyzed. It is expected that the analytical results presented herein can be used as a basic background material in the calibration of both fatigue design truck and fatigue load factor of LRFD specification.
The joining methods of steel structures of gas facilities, bridges, ships etc. by welding are composed mostly of T-type or cruciform fillet welding and full penetration or partial penetration according to the uses and the shape of the structures. In this study, it was examined the characteristics of fatigue crack according to penetration depth in relation to material thickness in the cruciform fillet welded joints. From the results, it was investigated the safe design stresses within the range of infinite life. When the LOP length is long the range of infinite life is small with root failure and when the LOP length is short the range of infinite life is large with teo failure. For the specimen of material thickness, 20mm welded by 3 pass compared with 10mm, 15mm welded by 2 pass, the fatigue strength and the range of infinite life was more improved by increasing of notch toughness from formation of micro-ferrite acicular structure.

RC Slab bridges in Korea account for more than 70% of the total bridges for more than 20 years of service. As the number of aging structures increases, the importance of safety diagnosis and maintenance of structures increases. For highway bridges, cracks are a main cause of deck deterioration, which is very closely related to the decrease in bridge durability and service life. In addition, the damage rate of expansion joints and bearings accounts for approximately 73% higher than that of major members. Therefore, this study defined damage scenarios combined with devices damages and deck deterioration. The stress distribution and maximum stress on the deck were then evaluated using design vehicle load and daily temperature gradient for single and combined damage scenarios. Furthermore, this study performed damage-spread analysis and predicted condition ratings according to a deck deterioration model generated from the inspection and diagnosis history data of cracks. The heterogeneous damages combined with the member damages of expansion joints and bearings increased the rate of crack area and damage spread, which accelerated the time to reach the condition rating of C. Therefore, damage to bridge members requires proper and prompt repair and replacement, and otherwise it can cause the damage to bridge deck and the spread of the damage.
Concrete structures such as bridges, pavement, and offshore structures are normally subjected to repeated load. Because highway and airfield pavements are to resist tension in bending, fatigue failure behavior is very important the fatigue life of materials. Therefore, in this paper was carried according to the fatigue test method and experiment variables for pavement concrete. The fatigue tests were applied split tension($150{\times}75$ in size) and flexural($150mm{\times}150mm{\times}550mm$ in size) beam fatigue test method. Major experimental variable in the fatigue tests in order to consideration of fatigue life were conducted loading frequency of 1, 5, 10, 20Hz and loading shape of block, sine, triangle and moisture condition of dry and wet condition and curing age of 28day and 56day. The test results show that the effect of loading frequency increasing the frequency increased fatigue life, decreased significant at frequencies below 200 cycles. The effect of loading wave form on fatigue life show that a block decreased, triangular increased in comparison with sine. The effect of moisture condition decreased in wet condition in comparison with dry condition. The effect of curing age increased in 564ays in comparison with 28day.
The use of welding process has been increased for manufacture of machine, bridges, ships, gas facilities and so on together with development of welding technique. Accordingly, it has been needed to develop the welding methods considering higher productivity and safety design for manufacture of their welding structures. In this study, it was studied basically on characteristics of fatigue strength and fatigue life in full penetrated cruciform fillet weld zone in relation to material thickness, welding passes, loading direction and notch radius of toe zone. Most of fatigue failure occurred in toe zone of cruciform fillet weld joint. Fatigue strength and fatigue life are under the influence of stress concentration due to notch radius and flank angle of toe zone. The metal of toe zone annealed and diffused by multi-layer welding and acicular ferrite structure formed by the result improved fatigue strength and fatigue life.

In this paper, the live load model for the design of high-speed railway bridge is analyzed by statistic and probabilistic methods and the safety level that is given by the load factors of the load combination is analyzed. This study is a part of the development of the limit state design method for the railway bridge, and the train data collected from the Gyeongbu high-speed railway for about one month are utilized. The four different statistical methods are applied to estimate the design load to match the bridge design life and the results are compared. In order to examine the safety level that the design load combination of the railway bridge gives, the reliability indexes are determined and the results are analyzed. The load effect from the current design live load for the high-speed rail bridge which is 0.75 times of the standard train load is came out greater than at least 30-22% that from the estimated load from the measured data. If it is judged based on the ultimate limit state, there is a possibility of additional reduction of the safety factors through the reliability analysis.

Bridge Weigh-in-Motion(BWIM) system calculates a travelling vehicle's weight without interruption of traffic flow by analyzing the signals that are acquired from various sensors installed in the bridge. BWIM system or data accumulated from the BWIM system can be utilized to development of updated live load model for highway bridge design, fatigue load model for estimation of remaining life of bridges, etc. Field test with moving trucks including various load cases should be performed to guarantee successful development of precise BWIM system. In this paper, a numerical simulation technique is adopted as an alternative or supplement to the vehicle traveling test that is indispensible but expensive in time and budget. The constructed numerical model is validated by comparison experimentally measured signal with numerically generated signal. Also vehicles with various dynamic characteristics and travelling conditions are considered in numerical simulation to investigate the variation of bridge responses. Considered parameters in the numerical study are vehicle velocity, natural frequency of the vehicle, height of entry bump, and lateral position of the vehicle. By analyzing the results, it is revealed that the lateral position and natural frequency of the vehicle should be considered to increase precision of developing BWIM system. Since generation of vehicle travelling signal by the numerical simulation technique costs much less than field test, a large number of test parameters can effectively be considered to validate the developed BWIM algorithm. Also, when artificial neural network technique is applied, voluminous data set required for training and testing of the neural network can be prepared by numerical generation. Consequently, proposed numerical simulation technique may contribute to improve precision and performance of BWIM systems.

In 1980s, a number of bridges with bare concrete deck were constructed on the Korea highway. After 20 years service, many bare concrete decks are still in good condition without special maintenance activity. Therefore, the application of the bare concrete deck is being reestimated from the view of construction and maintenance. As a part of the program, the characteristic of penetration(surface chloride and apparent diffusion coefficient) of de-icing salt into bare concrete bridge deck was analyzed in order to predict the service life of bridge on Korea highway.

This study predicts the maintenance and operation level of the bridge based on the LCC concept. In order to predict the LCC of the given case, suggested the maintenance and operation level after reviewing other related materials. Apply the real information of the maintenance and operation to the three casesof the maintenance and operation level (real, current, and prevented maintenance and operation level). And based on such analytical measures, maintenance and operation costs and LCC in maintenance and operation level, have been predicted: therefore, suggests the basic information about maintenance and operation level for the bridge. With a result of this study, we could obtain (1)the LCC of PSC-bridge and RC-bridge is more economy than Steel-bridge and (2)more active maintenance and operation of a bridge is absolutely necessary.
