The dynamic properties of lead rubber bearings, which are used as isolator, are dependent on the main rubber's dynamic behaviors and nonlinear qualities. Rubber materials tend to undergo an aging process under the influence of mechanical or environmental factors, so they can end up inevitably facing damage. A main cause of such aging is known to be oxidization, which occurs through the heat of reaction at high temperatures. Accordingly, in this study an accelerated thermal aging test was carried out in order to compare the characteristic values of the bearings with each other before and after thermal aging occurs. As a result of this experiment, it was found that a thermal aging phenomenon could have an effect on shear stiffness, energy absorption, and equivalent damping coefficients. Furthermore, a decline in the dynamic properties of the lead rubber bearings by means of the thermal aging process was applied to an actual bridge and the effects of such thermal aging on the seismic performance of the bridge were also compared and analyzed based on numerical analysis. As a result of this analysis, it was found that the changes in the basic properties of the lead rubber bearings have a minor effect on the seismic performance of bridges.
In many cases of underwater blasting in South Korea, the special blasting is mainly used for deepening harbor, installing gas pipes, or well blasting to build a bridge. The procedure of well blasting is almost same with shaft blasting, but the difference is that water is filled in before blasting. In case of deepening blasting under water, the first step like drilling, arranging explosives, and wire connection is done on a barge, then the next step such as charging and tamping is accomplished under water by expert divers. Therefore, underwater blasting needs precise and exact plan before blasting. In this paper, authors would like to introduce a case of underwater blasting for deepening the Busan new port with emulsion explosives and non-electric detonators in order to get some of 8,500TEU out sized container vessels entered into the port and to make safe. Considering environment and vibration, the blasting was controlled to minimized the damage to the lighthouse nearby. It will be great help to many other blasting sites where emulsion explosives and non-electric detonators are used for underwater blasting through this case.

Purpose : This study focuses on the influence of bridge exercise combined with whole body vibration on muscle activity and balance. Methods : 30 stroke patients were recruited for subjects. The subjects were divided to bridge exercise combined stable surface (Group I), bridge exercise combined unstable surface (Group II), and bridge exercise combined bridge exercise (Group III), of which 10 subjects were randomly allocated. The subjects were given 30 minutes of neurologic physical therapy which included gait training and muscular strength training, and additionally given 30 minutes of bridge exercise combined stable surface, bridge exercise combined unstable surface, and bridge exercise combined whole body vibration for each group, five times a week, for 8 weeks. Their muscle activity and balance were analyzed before the intervention. After 8 weeks of the intervention, the mentioned parameters were measured once more for between-group analysis. Results : Comparative analysis of the muscle activity and balance between the groups showed statistically significant difference, and post-hoc analysis showed the Group III had greater changes in muscle activity and balance than Group Iand Group II. Conclusion : Such results revealed that bridge exercise combined with whole body vibration is effective in muscle activity and balance. Based on the current study, more effective program is to be proposed for elite athletes as well as stroke patients. Based on the current study, studies that incorporates various frequencies of vibration is required for development of effective whole body vibration exercise program.
This paper presented equations on the stress evaluation of steel frame pier connections that were composed of a box beam and a circular column. The existing equations, which transformed the circular column into an equivalent box column had some problems; they underestimated a shear lag stress as the joint angle decreased, and overestimated a shear stress as the joint angel increased. Therefore, FE analyses were performed with various parameters, such as joint angle(${\alpha}$), span length-width ratio(L/B), and circular column-to-box beam stiffness ratio(${\alpha}$), and new equations on stress evaluation were proposed based on FE analyses. Furthermore, material and geometric nonlinear analyses were performed to estimate ultimate strength and to confirm the validity of the proposed equations.
An intensity of the 1997 Kyungju earthquake(M=4.3) was estimated at three hundred locations based on the field survey and questionaires from 2200 residents. The isoseismal shows almost circular pattern which doesnot reflect some specific geological trends. However, most of the Kyeongsang basin except the southwestern part is included within the area of MM intensity V. There occurred strong shaking, numerous cracks on the wall of the houses, and movement of slate on the roofs, falling of the tiles from the monument. The isoseismal of the highest MM intensity VII, 1-3 km in width and 9 km in length, is elongated along the Yangsan fault, which is located about 1.5 km west from epicenter. The lineaments near the epicenter exhibit almost N-S and NNE directions. The lineament distribution, the pattern of damage area and the solution of fault plane suggest that the Kyongju earthquake occurred with strike-slip sense along the Yangsan fault. The calculated intensity attenuation(I) with distance(R) is as follows : $I{\;}={\;}I_o{\;}+{\;}0.3461{\;}-{\;}0.3274{\;}{\times}{\;}1nR{\;}-{\;}0.086{\;}{\times}{\;}R$.

In this study, quasi-static according to the displacement-controlled (strain control) method tests on RC columns for seismic reinforcement performance in accordance with the provisions of the seismic design and construction before 1992 design code for highway bridges in korea. Used reinforcement that improves the performance of Inorganic Helical Bar, a kind of alloy steel, circular columns were tested outside the seismic reinforcing. In the experiment, fracture behavior, lateral load-displacement relation, ductility and energy assessment evaluation was performed through tests. The variables in experimental are section force of reinforcement, spiral reinforcement spacing, reinforcement method. Improved seismic performance and effect were confirmed through quasi-static test experiments. The results of study confirmed determination the appropriate size of reinforcement, reinforcement forces, spacing and selection of the type required, furthermore, not only mechanical reinforcement but also substitution of high-strength concrete reinforced with concrete cover improved seismic performance.

Repairing timing and the extended service life with repairing are very important for cost estimation during operation. Conventionally used model for repair cost shows a step-shaped cost elevation without consideration of variability of extended service life due to repairing. In the work, RC(Reinforced Concrete) Column is considered for probabilistic evaluation of repairing number and cost. Two mix proportions are prepared and chloride behavior is evaluated with quantitative exterior conditions. The repairing frequency and cost are investigated with varying service life and the extended service life with repairing which were derived from the chloride behavior analysis. The effect of COV(Coefficient of Variation) on repairing frequency is small but the 1st repairing timing is shown to be major parameter. The probabilistic model for repairing cost is capable of reducing the number of repairing with changing the intended service life unlike deterministic model of repairing cost since it can provide continuous repair cost with time.

In A bridge which connects Mokpo North Harbor and Com Island is going to be constructed until 2009. For the bridges being built in the navigable water area, it is indispensible to carry out vessel traffic safety assessment from the viewpoint of shiphandlers, however, there exist no specific guidelines for the necessary conditions whim the bridge designers can rely on. In this paper, traffic safety assessment procedures for the layout of the bridge is briefly introduced, and the conditions whim should be taken into account at the initial design stage of the bridge is surveyed. For the safety assessment of the bridge design, ship navigation simulations, such as RTS(real time simulation} and FTS(fast time simulation), are carried out, the results of which are statistically analysed to estimate the probability of collision between the ship and the pier of the bridge.
Most recently, environmental problems arise from management waste tires by increasing number of automobiles. Waste tires are not compressible and not easy for degradation in landfill. Even if it were landfill, it is difficult to treat. Total amount of waste tires is about 20 million per year and the collection is 68.6% in this country. Structure of slope stability using waste tire blocks filled with concrete increases durability, reduce construction period, and it can be utilized as an example. Therefore, it reduces the volume of waste and recycles waste. Also, it prevents the air pollution due to the incineration and creates economic value.
The purpose of this study was to assess the effect of bridging stabilization exercises on trunk muscles activity on and off a Swiss ball. 20 healthy university students volunteered to participate in this study. Subjects were required to complete following four exercises: exercise 1, single bridging exercise; exercise 2, feet on ball bridging exercise; exercise 3, calf on ball bridging exercise; exercise 4, back on ball bridging exercise. Surface electromyography from selected trunk muscles was normalized to maximum voluntary isometric contraction. A repeated measures of ANOVA with post-hoc Bonferroni's correction was used to determine the influence of exercise type on muscle activity for each muscle and descriptive statistics was used to determine local/global muscle ratios. The rectus abdominis of exercise 4 showed significantly higher muscle activity than rectus abdominis of exercise 1, 2, 3 (p<.05). The external oblique of exercise 2, 4 showed significantly higher muscle activity than external oblique of exercise 1 (p<.05). The internal oblique of exercise 2, 4 showed significantly higher muscle activity than internal oblique of exercise 1 (p<.05). The erector spinae of exercise 2, 3, 4 showed significantly higher muscle activity than erector spinae of exercise 1 (p<.05). Median of internal oblique/rectus abdominis ratio of exercise 1 was 1.16, exercise 2 was 2.43, exercise 3 was 2.45, exercise and 4 was 1.27. Median of internal oblique/external oblique ratio of exercise 1 was 1.01, exercise 2 was .91, exercise 3 was .99, and exercise 4 was .93. Muscle activity can be influenced by addition of a Swiss ball in bridging exercises. It is recommend to use a Swiss ball for trunk stabilization exercise.
