Implementation of stimulated Brillouin scattering in Optical Fiber Sensor by using Neuro-Fuzzy Theory (뉴로-퍼지 알고리즘을 적용한 광파이버 유도 브릴루앙 산란 센서에 관한 연구)

  • 본 논문은 1310nm 단일모드 광섬유를 이용하여 온도센서로 활용하기 위한 연구이다. 기존광섬유센서의 연구는 복잡한 여러 가지 기기를 이용하여 구성된 시스템이었다. 그리고 산란 변화를 주기 위하여 Bragg 격자나 Pulse generator를 이용하여 광주파수의 변화를 측정하거나, YAG 레이저를 이용 벌크형 시스템을 택하여 구성하였는데 실험 환경을 구성하는 어려움과 측정된 데이터의 정확도에 대한 문제점이 있었다. 본 연구에서 제안한 유도 브릴루앙 산란(sBs: stimulated Brillouin scattering)광을 이용한 온도센서 시스템은 기존의 측정방식 보다 간소화된 직렬방식의 시스템이다. 광주파수에서 발생하는 노이즈와 애매한 결과에 대해서 신뢰성과 정확도를 확보하기 위하여 지능형인 뉴로-퍼지 알고리즘을 이용하여 분석함으로써 기존 시스템 보다 정확한 데이터를 얻고자 하였다. 본 연구에서 sBs는 빛의 산란 특성 중 광주파수가 온도에 변화에 대해 각각의 온도 변화당 천이가 이루어졌음을 측정하였다. 시스템에서 출력된 데이터를 뉴로-퍼지로 분석한 변화율은 1.1MHz/의 결과를 얻었다.

Optoelectronic Mixing Detection for the Extension of Useable Frequency Range in the Radio over Fiber Network (무선광네트웍(RoF)의 가용 주파수 대역 확장을 위한 광전믹싱 광검파)

  • Theoretical analysis is presented for expending of the usable frequency range of optoelectronic mixing detection in the radio over fiber network system. We define the normalized gain to evaluate the performance of the optical mixing detection, and conform the possibilities of detection for the high frequency signals beyond the cutoff frequency of a photodiode. Optical mixing detection mechanism is analyzed by solving the continuity equation for the carriers of a photodiode. The normalized gain is independent on the signal frequency and the frequency difference between the optical signal and the local signal. Also, the amplitude of the local signal and the bias voltage are needed to be optimized at the same time in order to maximize the normalized gain.

  • In this paper we propose a wearable elbow rehabilitation robot applied the mirror therapy for elbow rehabilitation. To implement the mirror therapy, a data suit for measuring healthy elbow motion is developed. A powered elbow exoskeleton wearing in paralyzed arm is controlled by the measured data from the healthy elbow motion. In experiments, the elbow rehabilitation exercise by the mirror therapy is performed. From the experimental results we show the wearable exercise robot including the data suit is applicable to the mirror therapy for elbow rehabilitation.

A study on the fabrication of Y-branch for optical power distribution and its coupling properties with optical fiber (광분배를 위한 Y-branch 제작과 광파이버와의 결합특성에 관한 연구)

  • In this paper, w designed an opical power distribution device for application to an optical switching and an optical subscriber loop. We fabricated PSG thin film by LPCVD. Based on the measured index of fabricted thin film, rib-type waveguide was transformed to two-dimension by the effective index method and we simulated dispersion property to find asingle-mode condition. We found that the optimum design parameters of rib-type waveguide are:cladding layer of 3.mu.m, core layer of 3.mu.m, buffer layer of 10.mu.m, and core width of 4.mu.m. Each side of the guiding region was etched down to 4.mu.m to shape the core. We used these optimum parameters of the rib-type waveguide with branching angle of 0.5.deg. and simulted the Y-branch waveguide by the BPM simulation. Numerical loss in branching area was claculated to be 0.1581dB and equal to the total loss of the Y-branch. The loss of the fabricated Y-branch waveguide on PSG film ws 1.6dB at .lambda.=1.3.mu.m before annealing but was 1.2dB after annealing at 1000.deg. C for 10 minutes. Consequently, the loss of branching area from 3000.mu.m to 6000.mu.m in the z-direction was 0.8dB, and single-mode propagation was confirmed by measuring the near field pattern. For coupling the fabricated Y-branch waveguide with an optical fiber, we fabricated V-groove which was used as the upholder of optical fiber. An etching angle was 54.deg. and the width and depth of guiding groove was 150.mu.m, 70.mu.m, respectively. The optical fiber is inserted onto V-groove. Both the Y-branch and V-groove were connected through the index matching oil. Coupling loss after connecting Y-branch and the optical fiber on V-groove was 0.34dB and that after injecting index mateching oil was 0.14dB.

Measurement of High Electric Field Using Linear Electric-Optic Effect of Crystalline SiO$_2$ (SiO$_2$의 전기 광학 효과를 이용한 고전계 측정)

  • This paper presentes a new method to measure high electric field (or high voltage) by using crystalline SiO2 which has very high half wave voltage. There are many difficulties in measuring high electric field using other crystals which have generally low half wave voltage.By applying Stokes parameter and Mueller matrix. We derive optical modulation equation in the sensor which is composed of a polarizer, and Mueller matrix, we derive optical modulation equation in the sensor which is composed of a polarizer, a Pokels material, and an analyzer, We theoretically analyzed electro-optic effect, and calculated the phase retardation and half wave volt age of the birefringent material. The designed optical valtage sensor has very excellent linearity up to 20KV without divided volt-age. The maximum error was measured within 3%. Before annealing of Sio2 crystal, the maximum variation of the output voltage is 7.5% with varying temperature from \ulcorner20˚c to 60˚c. But, after annealing of SiO2 crystal, the output voltage variation is improved within 1%error.

Wideband Receiver Module for LADAR Using Large Area InGaAs Avalanche Photodiode (대면적 APD를 이용한 LADAR용 광대역 광수신기)

  • In this paper, we report design, fabrication and characterization of the WBRM (Wide Band Receiver Module) for LADAR (LAser Detection And Ranging) application. The WBRM has been designed and fabricated using self-made APD (Avalanche Photodiode) and TIA (Trans-impedance Amplifier). The APD and TIA chips have been integrated on 12-pin TO8 header using self-made ceramic submount and circuit. The WBRM module showed 450 ps of rise time, and corresponding 780 MHz bandwidth. Furthermore, it showed very low output noise less than 0.8 mV, and higher SNR than 15 for 150 nW of MDS(Minimum Detectable Signal). To the author's knowledge, this is the best performance of an optical receiver module for LIDAR fabricated by 200 um InGaAs APD.

Effects of Lettuce Cultivation Using Optical Fiber in Closed Plant Factory (폐쇄형 식물공장내 태양광 파이버를 이용한 상추 재배효과)

  • This study was conducted to the improvement of solar light-based artificial light supply system and effect of lettuce cultivation. The artificial light supply system was consisted of units such as light source, power, system measurement and controller. The light source supply was composed of a solar transmitter and an LED lamp. The power supply consisted of an leakage breaker, SMPS, LED controller and relay. The solar transmitter was made of a quartz optical fiber with optimal light transmission. Artificial light used white lamp among LEDs. System measurement and control consisted of touch screen, Zigbee communication module and light quantity sensor. The results of test confirmed that the LED light is automatically activated when the intensity measured by the light intensity sensor is 200 μmolm-2s-1 or less. Moreover, the leaf length, root length, chlorophyll content and root fresh weight of optical fiber treatment was hight than LED lamp treatment. Therefore, it can be inferred that the energy-saving solar light collector device can be effective in the indoor lettuce production. However, the use of LED lamp is also recommended to assure the availability of sufficient sunlight in cloudy and rainy days.

  • The electrothermal vaporization (ETV) hollow cathode glow discharge atomic emission spectrometer for analysis of liquid sample has been developed and characterized. This system has improved the sample introduction method of electrothermal vaporization and the hollow cathode glow discharge. The sample introduction method was possible to provide high analyte transport efficiency to the plasma by helix coil made of tungsten material. In addition, small volume samples (<$30{\mu}{\ell}$) could be used. The system has glow discharge cell with special design for improvement of precision. The effect of discharge parameters such as discharge power, gas flow rate has been studied to find optimum condition. The emitted light was effectively carried into detector by fiber optic cable in UV region. The calibration curve of Pb, Cd were obtained with 3 samples.
