Architecture and Characteristics of Multi-Ring based Optical Network with Single-Hop between Edge Nodes (Edge Node간 단일 홉을 갖는 다중링 기반의 광네트워크 구성 및 특성)

  • This paper proposes architecture and characteristics of a multi-ring based optical network with single-hop between edge nodes using the concept of circuit switching and multi-wavelength label switching to solve delay problem caused by applying crossconnectors as transit nodes in the wavelength division multiplexing(WDM) network. We suggest multi-ring based architecture composed single and multiple wavelength-bands with multi-wavelength labels, and analyze characteristics of two models. To avoid the packet collision in output ports of edge nodes due to output contention, the static and dynamic allocation scheme, which packets are allocated in time slots, is provided. Based on our analysis, it shows that delay only occur in not core nodes but edge nodes in the proposed architecture. In addition, we evaluate the probabilities of delay, packet loss, and call blocking in the proposed optical packet network.

Surface roughness analysis of distributed Bragg reflectors in vertical-cavity surface-emitting lasers by measuring the scattering distribution function (광 산란 측정을 통한 수직 공진 표면광 레이저 반사경의 계면 거칠기 분석)

  • For detailed characterization of scattering losses occurring in VCSEL's distributed Bragg reflectors, we performed scattering experiment and obtained the information about surface roughness through the analysis of a modified transmission matrix method. The various wafers grown for VCSELs were used for the scattering experiment. The fractal surface assumption and extrapolation is used to estimate the scattered intensity near specular angle. The modified transmission matrix method employed in the analysis considers the scattering loss at each interface and calculates the reflectivity efficiently and easily. As a result, the surface roughness ranges from $4{\AA}$ to $10{\AA}$ The reduction of reflectivity due to the scattering amounts to 0.26% in case of $10{\AA}$ roughness.

Performance Analysis of Time Division Multiplexed Optical Output Buffers (시간 분할 다중합 광 출력 버퍼의 성능 분석)

  • We analyze the performances, such as the cell loss probability(CLR) and the cell delay time, of time division multiplexed(TDM) optical output buffers using traveling delay lines or delay-line loops for buffering. Since traveling delay lines used for buffering are superior over delay-line loops in terms of simplicity and signal quality, they were used in a conventional TDM optical output buffer. However, the latter is more flexible than the former in that the cell storage time is adjustable by changing the recirculating times of a cell in the loops. So we propose a novel TDM optical output buffer using delay-line loops for buffering. We show that the proposed TDM optical output buffer can reduce the number of buffering unit required to achieve a CLR of less than 10$^{-9}$ . When the number of buffering unit is sufficiently large, we show that both TDM optical output buffers have same cell delay time characteristic.

Design of Internal Coupling Structure for Touch Panel Devices Using Optical Coupling of a Pen-Shaped Light Source with Optical Waveguides (광원을 내장한 펜의 출력광과 광 도파로의 광 결합을 이용하는 터치 패널 장치의 내부 광 결합 구조 설계)

  • In this paper, an optical touch panel device is newly proposed, with operating principle based on the optical coupling between a pointing pen having a built-in light source and perpendicularly crossed optical waveguide arrays. In order to enable an external light to couple into a waveguide core, the auxiliary pyramidal structures are introduced into all intersecting points located periodically along optical waveguides. The shape is optimized for minimizing the unwanted propagation loss due to the same structure by a ray tracing method. For the optical waveguide with the size of $50{\times}50{\mu}m^2$, the bottom width, height, and slope angle of the optimized pyramidal structure are $50{\mu}m$, $22.5{\mu}m$, and $42^{\circ}$, respectively. The optical coupling efficiency of about 97.8% and the average propagation loss of 0.3 dB/mm were achieved for the optimized touch panel. Finally, it is found from the tolerance analysis that tilting of the pen up to ${\pm}12^{\circ}$ can be allowed.

Estimation of Heat Insulation and Light Transmission Performance According to Covering Methods of Plastic Greenhouses (플라스틱온실의 피복방식에 따른 보온 및 광투과 성능 평가)

  • The objective of the present study is to provide data needed to decide covering method to be able to increase the thermal insulation and light transmittance efficiency of commercial greenhouse. The thermal insulation effect, PPF transmittance and quantity of condensation water were estimated in experimental tomato greenhouses covered with three types of coverings of single layer, air inflated and conventional double layers covering. The overall heat flow of air inflated double layers greenhouse was similar to that of conventional double layers greenhouse, but the temperature between covering material and thermal screen in air inflated double layers greenhouse was lower than that in conventional double layers greenhouse at the same outside temperature condition due to air leakage through the gap of roof vent. The overall heat transfer coefficients acquired by experiment that was performed in single layer and conventional double layers greenhouses were close to those obtained from model experiment. Even though the PPF transmittance of air inflated double layers greenhouse was lower than that of single layer greenhouse, which was greater than that of conventional double layers greenhouse. The quantity of condensation water on covering surface of single layer greenhouse was greater than that of air inflated double layers greenhouse due to lower covering surface temperature.

  • 박막 실리콘 태양 전지는 저가격화 및 대량생산, 대면적화에 유리하다는 장점을 가지고 있다. 단점으로 지적되는 낮은 효율을 극복하기 위해 광흡수층의 밴드갭이 서로 다른 두 개 이상의 박막을 적층하여, 넓은 파장 대역의 빛을 효과적으로 흡수함으로써 광변환 효율을 올리기 위한 많은 연구가 이루어지고 있다. 서로 다른 밴드갭의 광흡수층을 가진 p-i-n 구조를 다중 적층하여 고효율의 태양 전지를 제작하기 위해서는 n-도핑층과, p-도핑층 간에 전자와 정공이 빠르게 재결합할 수 있는 터널 접합(Tunnel Recombination Junction)의 형성이 필수적이며, 이때 광손실이 최소화되도록 해야한다. 만약 터널 접합이 적절하게 형성되지 않으면 결합되지 않은 전자와 정공이 도핑층 사이에 쌓이게 되고, 도핑층 사이의 저항 증가로 태양 전지의 광변환 효율은 크게 하락한다. 이번 연구에서는 터널 접합이 잘 이루어지게 하기 위한 n-도핑층 및 p-도핑층 박막의 특성과, 터널 접합의 특성에 따른 적층형 태양 전지의 광효율 변화를 확인하였다. 광흡수층 및 도핑층은 TCO($SnO_2:F$, Asahi) 유리 기판 위에 PECVD를 사용하여 p-i-n 구조로 RF Power 조건에서 증착되었고, ${\mu}c$-Si 광흡수층의 경우에는 VHF Power 조건에서 증착되었다. 광흡수층이 a-Si/${\mu}c$-Si의 구조를 가지는 이중 접합 태양 전지에서 ${\mu}c$-Si n-도핑층/${\mu}c$-Si p-도핑층 사이의 터널 접합 실험 결과 n-도핑층 및 p-도핑층의 결정화도와 도핑 농도를 조절하여 터널 접합의 저항을 최소화했고, 터널 접합 특성이 이중 접합 셀의 광효율 특성과 유사한 경향을 보임을 확인하였다. 광흡수층이 a-Si/a-SiGe/${\mu}c$-Si의 구조를 가지는 삼중 접합 태양 전지 실험의 경우 a-Si과 a-SiGe 광흡수층 사이에 ${\mu}c$-Si n-도핑층/${\mu}c$-Si p-도핑층/a-SiC p-도핑층의 구조를 적용하여 터널 접합을 형성하였으며, ${\mu}c$-Si p-도핑층의 두께 및 박막 특성을 개선하여 광손실이 최소화된 터널 접합을 구현하였고, 삼중 접합 태양 전지에 적용되었다.

Low Loss Plastic Optical Fiber Coupler Incorporating a Polymer Tapering Waveguide Region (폴리머 테이퍼링 도파로 영역이 있는 저 손실 플라스틱 광섬유 커플러)

  • In this paper, we proposed and demonstrated a low loss $1{\times}4$ type plastic optical fiber(POF) coupler incorporating a polymer tapering waveguide region. To avoid leakage loss at the interfaces between the POF and the polymer waveguide, we employed two POF transition regions, in which the cross section of the POF is adiabatically converted from a circular to a rectangular shape without change of its cross-section area. The device was fabricated based on a injection mold made of a silicon rubber. The fabricated POF coupler showed 1.33 dB of excess loss and 2.2 dB of flatness.

  • Performance of soliton based long-haul optical communication system with in-line optical amplifier repeaters are evaluated numerically. To reduce the optical amplifier noise, the amplifier gain is increased and the post amplifier loss is included. By theoretical calculation with 1480 nm co propagating pump, 7 dB amplifier gain and operating the amplifier 1 dB in compression, the spontaneous emission factor can be reduced from 2.37 to 1.45 by increasing the pump power from 3.71 to 11.53 mW and increasing the post amplifier loss from 0 to 10 dB. Then, power penalty can be reduced from 4.09 to 1.20 dB for 8,000'km transmission and the maximum transmission distance is 14,890 km. ,890 km.

  • 기존의 박막 실리콘 태양전지는 TCO와 p-layer 사이의 Bandgap차이가 p-layer, i-layer, n-layer 사이의 Bandgap 차이보다 커서 TCO를 통과한 태양광이 p-layer에 흡수되기 전에 일정량 손실된다. 이를 해결하기 위하여, p-layer 위에 기존의 p-layer보다 높은 Bandgap을 갖는 p buffer layer가 추가된 박막 실리콘 태양전지 구조를 만들어서 흡수되는 태양광의 손실량을 줄이고, 변환효율을 높이고자 하였다. 실험은 ASA Simulator를 이용하여 진행하였으며, Simulation결과 1.92eV의 Bandgap을 갖는 p buffer layer의 추가로 인하여, 기존 10.64%에서 11.16%로 증가된 변환효율을 얻을 수 있었다. Bandgap뿐만 아니라 다른 요소의 최적화도 이루어진다면, 기존의 박막 실리콘 태양전지보다 훨씬 높은 변환효율을 갖는 박막 실리콘 태양전지를 설계 하는 것이 가능 할 것이다.

  • This study investigates the problem of potential bottleneck on FTTC access networks. The link capacity for multiplexed stream using the 2-state MMPP source model is estimate on the assumption of a single VC per user. An analytic from between the cell loss rate and the effective bandwidth has been used to estimate an appropriate ling bandwidth varying the fraction of active users.
