  • The planting plan for the establishment of Eco-bridge were suggested to restore the ecosystem where has been ecologically isolated by rood construction in Chimgogae of Odaesan National Park. Eco-bridge contributes as a corridors to the faunal movement. To survey the vegetation, 16 plots within 6 sites were selected and 10 by 10 meters in size set up. In the results of Chingogae's vegetation analysis, succession trends was from Quercus mongolica to Carpinus laxiflora, Carpinus cordata, Fraxinus rhynchophylla, Tilia amurensis and so on. It turned out that the nearer sites had high similariyt and vegetation continuity obviously in the similarity index analysis. In the analysis of the number of species and individuals, final step of planting plan needs about 15 species and 10~12 trees, 17~18 subtrees and 100 shrubs in size 100m$^{2}$. Planting species was selected from adjacent sites. The plant species suited for the eco-bridge establishment in this area can be suggested such as Carpinus cordata, Cornus controversa, Q. mongolica etc. and 12 subtree and shrub such as Syringa reticulata var. mandshurica, Sambucus williacsii var. coreaca, Acer pseudosieboldianum and so on.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the vegetation structure of Daphniphyllum macropodum community in the Geumseon Valley area of Naejangsan National Park. To do so, thirty-seven plots($100m^2$) were set up and surveyed. The surveyed plots were divided into four groups according to the analysis of classification by TWINSPAN; (I)Carpinus laxiflora community (II)Carpinus laxiflora community (III)Deciduous Broad-leaved community and (IV)Zelkova serrata community. The results of vegetation structure analysis were; Daphniphyllum macropodum did not appeared in the canopy later but in understory and shrub layer. Even though Daphniphyllum macropodum will not be dominant species in the canopy later, but it was expected that Daphniphyllum macropodum will be major species in understory and shrub layer. The expected age of forest of the Geumseon Valley where Carpinus laxiflora and Zelkova serrata were dominant trees in canopy layer, was about 50 years old while that of Daphniphyllum macropodum in understory layer was 20 years old.

  • Pull-out resistance tests of root were carried out for 7 shrub species which are mainly used greening of deteriorated forest slope. Mean pull-out resistance forces of Aralia elata, Salix koreensis and Stephanandra incisa were 37.26 kgf, 34.56 kgf and 26.00 kgf, respectively. The pull-out resistances were high as collar diameter and volume of the root increased. Correlations between root collar diameter and root volume were high in Rubus crataegifolius, but on the other hand, the correlation was lowest in Zanthoxylum schinifolium. There were significant differences in pull-out resistance by root collar diameters, and the difference of pull-out resistance by species showed only below 20 ml root volume.

  • Autumn visitors to Chuwangsan National Park was more than summer's. About 89% of total visitors used main trail but approximately 35% visited to the Third Falls. The entire width, bare width, maximum depth and slope of trail as the trail condition surveyed at the total of 103 points were significantly greater on the more heavily-used trail. Trail conditons of rock-exposed, root-exposed, deepening points as the deterioration types of trail were significantly different from those of non-deteriorated points. According to the topographic position of trail, severe difference of dominant trees in the edge vegetation was found and Lespedeza maximowiczii, Rhododendron yedoense and Fraxinus sieboldana were dominant in shrub layer of trail edge vegetation. The crown coverage, number of species and individuals of shrub layer in edge vegetation were generally higher than those in the other national parks with more heavily-used trail.

  • This study was conducted to clarify the characteristics of bird community and habitat types in Mangyeong River area from Aug. 1999 to Jun. 2000. Paddy field was the most dominant land use type. Water area, mudflat, shrub field, urban area and green house were also dominant land use types in study area. Eighty-eight bird species were recorded during study period. Maximum number of species and individuals were shown as 58 species and 7,084 individuals in Oct. and Jan., respectively. There were low number of diving ducks and clumped pattern of waterfowl distribution of bird community in Mangyeong River area. Dabbling ducks distributed at upper reaches near Samrye Bridge, and plovers and sandpipers at lower reaches near estuary. Those results suggest that creation of pools over one meter water-depth and restoration of paddy field into riparian zone with diverse shrubs are required to increase the bird diversity in the Mangyeong rived.

  • Floristic composition of Kyongpo Provincial Park area were investigated from June, 1997 to June, 1998. Vascular plants were composed of 87 families, 240 genera, 281 species, 51 varieties, and 7 formae, totaling 339 taxa. Among them, three taxa such as Vicia venosissima, Paulownia coreana, Aster ciliosa were Korean endemic species. Pteridophyta calculation(Pte-Q) was investigated, 0.61. A naturalized plants were 12 species, corresponding to 5.5% of totaling 218 species in South Korea by Lee and Chon(1995). The dominant species could be represented by Pinus thunbergii and P. densiflora. And its stratification structure were composed as follows : Pinus thunbergii and P. densiflora in tree and subtree layer, Pinus thunbergii, P. densiflora. and Prunus sargentii in shrub layer, and Spodiopogon sibiricus, Festuca ovina, Melandryum firmum, Artemisia princeps, Rumex acetosella, Commelina communis and Plantago depressa in herb layer, respectively. But stratification structure of dominant species appeared very unstable in subtree and shrub layer.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the vegetation structure of Daphniphyllum macropodum community in the Yeong-sil and Seong-panack. To do so, 26plots ($(20m{\times}20m)$) were set up and surveyed. Plant communities were classified with 3 groups according to the analysis of classification by TWINSPAN and DCA Ordination; Pinus densiflora-Carpinus laxiflora (I), Carpinus laxiflora-Quercus serrata (II) and Carpinus tschonoskii (III). Daphniphyllum macropodum is appearing in understory and shrub layer of all groups. We found that Daphniphyllum macropodum will be dominated in understory and shrub layer. These results was judeged that these influence is depended on difference of altitude and accompanied species. Accompanied species were lived in similar growth environment to Daphniphyllum macropodum. That species were Styrax japonica, Quercus serrata of understory and Ilex crenata, Taxus cuspidata of shrub layer.
