This paper presents an experimental investigation to visualize cross-sectional two-phase flow structure and identify liquid-gas interface for condensation of steam at a low mass flux in a slightly inclined tube using the axial-viewing technique, which permits to look directly into flow during condensation of steam. In this technique, two-phase flow is viewed along the axis of a pipe by locating a high-speed video camera in front of a viewer that is fitted at the outlet of the pipe. A short section of the pipe is illuminated and is recorded through the viewer, which is kept free of liquid by mildly introducing air. Experiments were conducted in a pipe of 19.05 mm in inner diameter at atmospheric pressure. Cross-sectional two-phase flow structure is obtained at a steam mass flux of $2.62kg/m^2s$ as a function of steam quality in the range from 0.5 to 0.9. The results show that stratified-wavy flow is a unique flow pattern observed in the scope of the present study. Condensate film thickness, stratification angle and void fraction were measured from the obtained flow structure images. Finally, heat transfer coefficient was calculated using the measurement data and discussed in comparison with existing correlations.

This article is related to the possibility for continuous operation of a liquid rocket engine when a portion of cryogenic propellant in the pipeline is vaporized. As a result of experimental studies imitating the formation of vapors in the flow, we confirmed the possibility of full gas-phase condensation in case temperature of cryogenic liquid is lower than it's saturation temperature in the pipeline. Empirical equation allowing to calculate a nonequilibrium condensation region in the steady flow of cryogenic liquid was obtained as a non-dimensional form and the fields of practical application were suggested.

This is to characterize the fluid mechanics of surfactant water solutions, which exhibit drag reduction in the turbulent flow as compared to pure water. The emphasis is placed on those fluid characteristic aspects of drag reducing solutions which are relevant for application in closed circulation loops for the purpose of pumping power savings, like hydronic cooling and heating systems in buildings. The experiments are carried out with the solutions of the surfactant Beraid DR-IW 616 in concentration of $100{\sim}3,000ppm$. The following key parameters are focused in this study: surfactant concentration, solution temperature and pipe diameter.

Flame lift-off conditions determine the operating conditions of burners. It is known that a flame can be lifted when the Schmidt number (Sc), which is the ratio of the dynamic viscosity to the mass diffusivity, is greater than unity. In this study, the flame lift-off characteristics of non-premixed flames of propane (Sc > 1) and methane (Sc < 1) in a coaxial outer air tube were experimentally compared. The experimental results indicated that stable lifted flames could be obtained even when Sc < 1 in a confined air tube. On the basis of the results of a simple numerical analysis, it was confirmed that a new flame stabilization mechanism exists in the tube. A velocity field is preferentially developed upstream of the flame, and it results in a new stabilization condition. This result can be very useful in explaining the stabilization of the flames of ordinary burners in which a flame is produced in a confined space.

A numerical method is developed for the solution of fully developed turbulent recirculating flow whose cross-sectional area varies periodically. This enalbes the flow field analysis to be confined to a single isolated module, without involvement with the entrance region problem. This method are applied to the analysis of the turbulent flow field and heat transfer in artificially roughened annulus with repeated square rib.

Flow pattern of air-water two phase flow depends on the conditions of pressure void fraction and channel geometry. We classify the flow pattern by measuring the output signal of the conductivity probe. under the classified flow pattern we mount a visualization equipment on the test section and take pictures. We vary the concentration of pure solvent and polymer to measure local void fraction. We know that the maximum point position of local void fraction distribution move from the center of the pipe to the wall of the pipe as JSL increase when JSA is constant in two phase flow. But we find that the maximum point position of local void friction move from the wal of the pipe to the center of the pipe when polymer concentration increase.

This paper is concentrated on the development of oxygen transfer system by U-tube deep shaft in biological fluidised bed process. The depth of the shaft is 32 m, it is composed of downcomer and riser. Not only flow pattern and oxygen transfer in the deep shaft but also oxygen limitation in biofilm and oxygen utilization in biological fluidised bed are investigated. In this investigation, driving force for liquid circulation in the deep shaft is affected by air injection depth and gas hold-up in downcomer. Flow pattern of the deep shaft is revealed to plug flow. When flow velocity in the deep shaft is maintained to 0.52 m/sec, $K_La$ value is peak at 25~30 m depth in riser. The efficiency of dissolved oxygen supply which passed from the deep shaft to biological fluidised bed is estimated to 56~81 % in the organic wastewater treatment using the deep shaft and when dissolved oxygen concentration is 9.2 mg/l and over, limiting factors of flux and substrate within biofilm are organic materials. Terefore, organic loadings could be increase without decreasing of BOD removal efficiency.

This study numerically analyzes the characteristics of the velocity distribution for each location of a square-sectional $180^{\circ}$ bent duct using a Reynolds Stress Turbulent model. The flow parameters were varied, including the working fluids, inlet velocity, surface roughness, radius of curvature, and hydraulic diameter. The boundary conditions for computational fluid dynamics analysis were inlet temperatures of air and water of 288 K and 293 K, inlet air velocity of 3-15 m/s, inner surface roughness of 0-0.001 mm, radius of curvature of 2.5-4.5 D, and hydraulic diameter of 70-100 mm. The working fluid characteristics were highly affected by changes in the viscous force. The maximum velocity profiles in the bent duct were indicated when the $90^{\circ}$ section was in the region of X/D=0.8 and the $180^{\circ}$ section was in the region of Y/D=0.8. Lower surface roughness and higher radius of curvature resulted in a higher rate of velocity change. Also, an efficient measuring location downstream of the bent duct is suggested since the flow deviations were the most stable when the straight duct length was in the region of L/D=30. The minimum deviations at the same velocity conditions according to the hydraulic diameter were mostly indicated in the range of L/D=15-30 based on the standard deviation characteristics.

Characteristics of flow patterns in horizontal gas-liquid two-phase flow for two different sizes of pipe were investigated based upon a statistical analysis of differential pressure fluctuations at an orifice. The probability density function and the power spectral density function of the traces indicate peculiar shapes depending upon the two-phase flow regime. Mixed and separated flows also could be identified by the autocorrelation function. The transition region from separated flow to mixed flow also could be identified by these statistical properties. The experimental data determined by this method were compared with the flow pattern maps suggested by other investigators. The result indicates that the statistical characteristics of differential pressure fluctuations at orifices may be a useful tool for identifying flow patterns of horizontal gas-liquid two-phase flow.
This study presents flow assurance analysis in subsea pipeline considering system availability of topside in LNG-FPSO. A hydrate management strategy was established, which consisted of PVCap experiments, system availability analysis of LNG-FPSO topside, hydrate risk analysis in the pipeline, and calculation of PVCap injection concentration. The experimental data required for the determination of PVCap injection concentration were obtained by measuring the hydrate induction time of PVCap at the subcooling temperatures of 6.1, 9.2, and 12.1℃. The availability of LNG-FPSO topside system for 20 years was 89.3%, and the longest downtime of 50 hours occurred 2.9 times per year. The subsea pipeline model for multiphase flow simulation was created using field geometry data. As a result of risk analysis of hydrate plugging using subsea pipeline model, hydrate was formed at the end of flowline in 23.2 hours under the condition of 50 hours shutdown. The injection concentration of PVCap was determined based on the PVCap experiment results. The hydrate plugging in subsea pipeline of LNG-FPSO can be completely prevented by injecting PVCap 0.25 wt% 2.9 times per year.
